Chapter 1 - The Fall

================================================================

It was 12:37AM, the Vyreland General Hospital was in a panic, abruptly the patient in room 37, had their water break, and they were now in labor. The residents in the hospital, weren't prepared for this sudden medical emergency. They knew what they were doing, they successfully delivered a healthy baby boy, with brilliant icy grey eyes. This this families 9th time in the last 10 years that this very patient was giving birth. The others that were unfortunate enough to be born to this family, were all put up for adoption.

Suddenly, the presumed father of the child with fiery-red eyes rushed in and cursed aloud, "Damnit another useless element, but at least its not water like the last 8 times we tried" the father although reluctant named the child Jaspar, and grabbed a pen to sign the birth certificate officially accepting the child into the family, then and there starting the hell that would be the next 16 years of Jaspar's "Heroic" life.

In a medium sized home in the rural town of Vyreland, there was a child with midnight black hair, Snow-pale skin, and icy grey eyes with the effects of malnourishment and sleeplessness visible in his tiny 8 year old frame. This was Jaspar Caresen, a emotionally, physically broken child. Every day Jaspar was forced to wake up at 5:30AM to eat a barely filling breakfast, followed by 4 hours of intense psychical training, before having to go to the only place he was free from the hellhole of his home, school. Then after an arduous 5 and a half hours of school, just to go home, and be physically abused by his parents in order to "strengthen" his body and control of the elemental power he was born with, the power to control the combination of Air and water, called mist. The cycle continues day after day, year after year until a very fateful day on his 16th birthday.

The very same kid from eight years ago, no longer showing the effects of neglect, was upbeat of joyous. Jaspar just turned 16, old enough to finally be called an "Adult" in the vast world. Jaspar was headed out of his apartment provided by his family so he could, "Get the hell out" as his father stated. The town was bustling, shops still having their closed signs from the night prior, the morning dew soaking the bottom of his shoes as he walked, a slight fog echoing wherever Jaspar went.

Vyreland although it is classified as a rural town, it is closer to a suburb in population, with your neighbors being only a few hundred feet instead of the miles in between you and you closest neighbor evident in truly rural environments. Jaspar was walking down the main road as he noticed a small commotion happening at the fountain in the town square.

Jaspar, being raised to be a hero and nothing else decided to see what was happening, as a follower of "Justice" he was obligated to make sure nothing, unsavory, was ongoing. There was a loud bellowing from a man of rather large stature with a very thick Boston accent, "Hello and Howdy everyone, It is me Tank, the well known hero from the Big City, one of the best at controlling the earth element." He continued while assuming a strange "heroic" pose with one hand on the gun-blade holstered on his waist, "Would anyone be willing to step up to help me demonstrate my abilities so you know I'm the real deal." As this sentence was uttered Tank locked eyes with Jaspar as Tank called out, "You there! You look like just the prime participant!"

Jaspar froze, in all of his years of going to school he stayed reserved never speaking much, and now he felt like he was dragged onto a stage with a spotlight right in his eyes, as Jaspar spoke in a meek voice, "Sorry sir! I have no clue what you are talking about." as this was said Jaspar's eyes darted around as if chasing a fly, trying to find a way out of this situation. Tank then exclaimed with a menacing grimace on his face, "Come here, I was just going to do a demonstration for the crowd to show them that I'm truly a hero that can protect this meager town!" as Tank slowly waltzed his way towards Jaspar.

Jaspar took a defensive step back as his mind race as tank said aloud, "Earth Spike" as this decree was uttered, Jaspar felt the ground underneath him shake as a spike protruded from the floor as it pierced his chest, dense fog pouring out of the wound as his elemental body was trying to recover the immense damage to his torso, Tank started a monologue with an ego dwarfing even the sun, "See? I am a extremely powerful hero. I am as tough as a boulder, as tough as the mountains, as great as the very earth we stand upon. No wind can blow me over, no water can erode me, no fire could scar me, I am a god amongst other element users . . . I-I am the gr-greatest elemen . . ." as Tank uttered his last word Jaspar, who wasn't idle, turned Tank to ice mid step, and shattered upon the very ground be boasted he controlled.

The onlookers gasped, as the spike retracted as the one who called it forth was but a fine gravel upon the ground. The onlookers stared in horror as Jaspar's body reformed from the early morning fog around him the hole that once perforated his body no longer there as if a memory of the past. A slight glimmer catching Jaspar's eye, a token of his first act of "Justice" the gun blade that was so valiantly displayed at the hip of the one who attacked him, as Jaspar picked it up a heavy fog bursting out from his body as he examined the newly acquired treasure. This made Jasper think . . .

"Heroes? Why do we need "Heroes" anyway?"
