Adrianna and Alaric drove in silence as they approached Cathay's house, a modest, welcoming home with a garden that brimmed with life. The sound of children playing echoed faintly in the distance. The tension in the car was palpable, but Adrianna's heart was filled with anticipation. She had waited for this moment—to see her children again after so long.
As the car came to a stop, Cathay stepped onto the porch, wiping her hands on a dish towel. Her eyes widened in surprise, and then a beaming smile spread across her face when she saw Adrianna step out of the car.
"Ady! Welcome back!" Cathay exclaimed, throwing her arms wide open.
