"What was that!?" Sergeant Burrows shouted over the phone followed by numerous orders for me to report the situation on the ground.
"The zombies, they are getting out of hand, I will get back to you when everything is under control.
I hanged up and headed for the window of the shelter to take a peek at what was happening inside. The visibility was difficult to reconstruct since it was all covered with Bamboo stems and I had to look through the spaces. After assessing for a few minutes, this time I was even closer, I could not see a thing.
"Grrrr . . . . . ."
One of the zombies rushed to the window I was peeping through and begun to scratch, startling me to the ground. The villagers ran back to their houses leaving me at the mercy of my fears. I then reached for my cellphone which was constantly buzzing in my pocket.
"Hello Ava!," I greeted at my ex girlfriend who happened to be have been working as a lab scientist for the longest time. She was the best in that field in regard to the amount of cases I have seen her solve over the years.
Last time I checked she was working for the prime minister and that also includes our breakup which was for the best. "What are the odds of you calling right now, apparently I am in the middle of. . . ."
"In the middle of some zombies, I know and that is why I called," Ava intervened, as she had already done research on the findings I sent Sergeant Burrows, of course he gave them to her as if he did not know me and Ava ended things in a not so pleasing manner.
"I want you to look for a safe place and keep yourself locked in there just until help arrives."
"And since when did you start giving me orders," I asked taking a deep breath, still on the ground like a disfigured person suffering a trauma; a father of two.
"Ever since I got promoted to the same Military base you are in, and also having done my research which I believe you have not, and discovered that the whole of Sichuan is now fully infested with zombies, including some parts of China. It is wild out there Bradley."
Her voice was genuinely shaking from her utterances which got me worried of what massacre had erupt only for the few hours I had been to this village. I quickly remembered the child who has been bitten and managed to escape back in Sichuan from the briefing I got from the village doctor. My body shook at how fast the affected transformed the rest in just 24 hours..
"Bradley! Bradley Cooper, are you still there?"
I came back from my deep thoughts, having been called a couple of times by Ava.
"Yes... yes, I am here, what about America!? my kids, are my kids safe?"
"Don't worry about your kids, they are in safe hands, the government is putting up a martial law and border restrictions to prevent any flights or citizens in and out of the country. This does not apply to you, just hold still and expect help in a few hours from base.
This was all unbelievable, Ava hanged up and the zombies inside the shelter had no idea they had mobilised the birth of an apocalypse to the world. Human survival was going to be at its knees and containing the infected was going to be near impossible.
Twenty minutes in since my phone call with Ava and the Kuijiu village was full of dust and flying garbage from the Military helicopters that had been propelling into this shanty village. They all landed in the fields that had just been recently ploughed and over fifty men in army uniforms got out and scattered in different directions, everyone taking cover behind their loaded rifles and AK-47.
The peaceful village was now fully under surveillance and under the arrogance of the military men. I could tell from their faces they were not the type to joke around and had clear and precise orders 'Shoot to kill'.
Their first priority was to ensure my safety, so I was immediately given new military clothes to put on including their black heavy boots and a pistol for my own protection. This had now turned into a matter of no return.
They then headed for the shelter with each soldier stationed in position to open fire in case any tried to retaliate against them. The capture was for more studies on the species in relation to their genes and survival tacts that they had developed and it took place fast and swiftly by the trained men.
The zombies were still bound by the ropes they had earlier and all the military had to do was jump in on them. And yes they did, they restrained each one of them with their muscular bodies pinning them to the ground and avoiding being bitten. Even the slightest bite was enough to transform you into their kind.
The zombies were then dragged out with their limbs fettered and mouths muzzled to prevent them from attacking anyone on the helicopters until their final destination.
The village doctor was then summoned to provide all the legal names of the affected people and each statement was recorded without any mistakes. The rest of the villagers watched from their houses, their faces could tell it all. They had not been pleased with the army's invasion and the manner they had come in. But the 'Cursed' victims were being scrapped from their hands, atleast they would continue with their normal lives, but I wonder how long that was going to last.
Sichuan, the town they relied on for supplies and a home to some of their loved ones had already been conquered by the very monsters and they had no clue about it. Electricity was not part of their lives and so was social media. Their lanterns and the natural sunlight were their only means of energy they had.
