Scarlett sniffed the minute she released herself from their hug. "What type of man was he? For me to cry this much, I must have liked him or been close to him."
Cornelia nodded. "The two of you were best friends. You always do what he does. You love basketball. A lot. You always want to go to the game with him. Always watch matches with him when the game comes on the TV.
"I thought you said I loved playing chess."
"I'm sorry for lying to you."
"But why would you guys lie to me about that?" Scarlett asked. Her eyes searching theirs.
"We just wanted you to have fun. That was all. No harm. We felt like if we lied to you, you would want to enjoy the sleepover with us and not feel alone." Avery said. "We are so sorry that we lied."
