Chapter 368 - Staying at School

"Congratulations, your grades are the best in history, but where is the change you mentioned?" Principal Clarence asked after handing out the diploma and rank.

"That's what I'm going to say now. I hope to be able to stay in school. I already have the answer to the current military problem. Now I need to prove it, and I can't go to the army," Wesley said.

In Wesley's opinion, a captain's rank was still too low. He needed a higher rank, or even to lead a unit alone. And to do that, he needed to make a special contribution, to show the military his potential and ability, while promoting his own firearms.

"Oh? Can you tell me?" Clarence was interested and asked directly.

Wesley didn't hold anything back. "The current war model has changed. Our army is immersed in the Spanish-American War, and the American army is now vulnerable. If I were British, I would have defeated the United States."

"Is it that serious?" Clarence asked with a frown. It's true that the American army can't do it now, but it doesn't seem that serious. The United States has no natural enemies, and the two oceans have become their natural barrier.

"Of course, if I were the British, I would not land and fight at all. I would only have to defeat our navy and then bombard along the coastline. The Americans would not be able to go into the sea. Then it would all be over."

"This is not in the interest of the United Kingdom. There is no gain at all." Clarence did not agree with Wesley.

"Of course, there's no gain now, but it doesn't mean there won't be in the future. They suppressed the rise of a superpower. Isn't that a big gain?" Wesley asked.

The British were the most powerful country in the world at this time, and their navy was the most powerful. The British navy was spread all over the world, and the Empire of Sun Never Sets was not called that for nothing. No one dared to provoke their navy. Even Hitler, the madman in World War II, wanted to force the British to surrender instead of occupying the three British islands. This showed how powerful the British navy was.

"Oh? You think America will end up a superpower like Britain?"

"No, not replace, but the only one." Wesley knows all this clearly. How strong the United States is in the future, but they will also be gradually caught up. The ancient China will inevitably rise, but Wesley has no intention of helping. He is wearing a 'foreign skin' now and can't help at all. Just give money?

"Is that all?" Clarence then asked.

"Of course not. In the current war, because of the appearance of machine guns, the model of war has changed. A large number of rapid-fire weapons will appear on the battlefield, such as the French 'Miss 75' and the Maxim Heavy Machine Gun. This will completely change the model of war. Of course, the French are also losers. They are proud of 'Miss 75', but others are at a disadvantage."

When Clarence heard this, he knew Wesley really had an idea, so he said, "I will arrange for you to be a teaching assistant. You will conduct research on fighter jets and let me have a detailed report. You don't need to give me this report. When you finish, I will ask someone to come and listen to your report. There will be a lot of people coming. What do you think?"

"No problem, Principal. I will submit two reports."

Clarence's eyes lit up. "Okay, I'll wait to hear from you."

Wesley saluted and turned to leave. What he had to do was not to write the report, but to draw the blueprint. Although the munitions factory was not yet completed, it was a big project after all, and the blueprint needed to be drawn. When his two reports were completed and there were weapons to be shown, he would not have to worry about the arms sales. He was not afraid that the Americans would not buy them. If they did not buy them, he would buy them abroad. He was not afraid that no one would want the good things.

Word spread that Wesley had been awarded the rank of captain and had stayed on as a teaching assistant. Many people did not understand why the billionaire had enlisted and stayed on after graduation. The principal did not reveal anything about Wesley. He was waiting for two reports from Wesley.

Wesley graduated in late July 1913, and Wesley did not produce two reports until October 1913. For such a long time, Wesley was mainly waiting for what they wanted. The munitions factory was completed, and Wesley designed the first products.

On October 15th, Wesley conducted his debriefing, but this debriefing was conducted in secret. Wesley met with the personnel invited by Crates. There were not many people, but Wesley recognized the two leaders. One of them was John Joseph Pershing, but shouldn't he be in the Philippines now?

The second was President Woodrow Wilson, who had been appointed last year. Wesley was very surprised. How could the principal invite these two?

"Young man, I know you are very rich, but this is a military school. I hope you can give us a satisfactory answer," Pershing said.

However, the president smiled and said, "Mr. Gibson has made outstanding contributions to the United States in business and technology. I am very grateful for this. I hope there will be better development in the future."

Wesley understood that the president was not here just for the military. One had to know that the presidential campaign in the United States required funds, and Wesley had not invested in any party so far. He was a non-partisan. This president was re-elected, and Wesley could support him, so Wesley smiled and said, "Of course, my arsenal has been completed recently. I think the weapons I designed can completely deal with the war that is about to happen."

Pershing and Wilson were stunned, and Wesley did not continue. "Please take your seats. I will begin my report now."

Wesley walked to the lectern. Today, they had taken up an empty teacher's room for this debriefing, and in order to keep it a secret, there were guards at the door. Wesley did not have a script. He did not need a script with Apple around.

"The first thing I want to do is the new war model." Wesley saluted and spoke directly. "The appearance of machine guns makes the original line attack a target." He had just said this when Pershing spoke.

"Is that what you want to talk about? You know that the damage of machine guns is very low."

Wesley laughed, then said, "Did I say head-on shooting?"

Pan Xing was stunned. "Okay, sorry, please continue." He was able to take it and apologize directly.

Wesley, on the other hand, continued his lecture. "The rate of fire of the weapons is getting faster and faster, including the current rifles. The rate of fire is also getting faster and faster, and the French rapid-fire artillery has changed the pattern of the artillery and is still increasing. So, for the impact of traditional infantry attacks, let's see the picture I drew."

Wesley took out a large map and hung it on the blackboard. Then, holding the pointer, he began to explain, "The appearance of trenches gives the defense an advantage, especially when infantry attacks. The area hit by bullets will be reduced, and so will the casualties. If there is enough time, a solid and practical defense line can be established, and multiple lines can be set up to increase the depth of the defense."

What Wesley had put into the future was very common, but it was completely changed in different eras. Of course, it was very simple to say this. It was a trench with machine guns, then barbed wire, mines, and so on. Most people in the future knew about it, especially men.
