Chapter 232 - Differences

"You guys are finally here," Nick Fury said from his hospital bed. "Spine damage, broken sternum, crushed collarbone, perforated liver, plus a killer headache." He seemed to be complaining about something.

He didn't say these words to Wesley because there was no need to say them. Wesley would fight for SHIELD, and Captain America might not. Nick Fury was cunning and said these words to gain sympathy.

"They gave you a thoracotomy and your heart stopped beating," Black Widow asked. The doctor was treating the gunshot wound on her shoulder, but Black Widow didn't seem to feel any pain and her tone was very steady.

"Dolphin toxin B, lower the heartbeat to a minute. This is a sedative invented by Dr. Bruce Banner to calm himself down, but it is not very effective for him."

Captain America Steve Rogers spoke. "Why so secret? Why not let us know?"

Maria Hill answered him. "To make the people who assassinated the director think that the assassination was successful. The dead can't die again."

"What about him?" Steve Rogers pointed at Wesley, who was smoking.

"Wesley and Phil formed a team together. He helped Phil Coulson train the members of the team. When he received the news of my death, Wesley called Hill to confirm it, so I agreed to tell him directly that I am not dead." After Nick Fury finished speaking, he caught his breath. He could not say much in one breath now. He paused for a moment before saying again, "Wesley found Hydra in SHIELD. At first, I just felt that something was wrong. Later, after Wesley joined SHIELD, we found out about Hydra through his special ability."

Everyone was stunned, including Maria Hill. She did not know about this situation.

Steve Rogers asked, "What powers?"

Instead of answering, Nick Fury sat up with difficulty and then walked over to Wesley and sat next to him. Finally, he pointed to the seat next to him and gestured for everyone to come and sit down.

"Wesley, do you want to tell me or should I?" Nick Fury asked.

Wesley said, "Why don't I tell you?" When everyone was seated, Wesley said, "I have an ability that everyone usually calls mind reading. As long as I'm physically in contact with you, I can see your memories and thoughts, but it takes a long time. I stayed there for a long time to distinguish the Hydra members at headquarters."

Maria Hill, who was sitting next to Wesley, stiffened. Then she whispered in Wesley's ear, "Have you ever used it on me?"

Wesley smiled and put his mouth close to her ear. "I saw what you like." Maria Hill blushed, but she controlled her emotions very well. Then she pulled away from Wesley as if nothing had happened.

Wesley continued, "I told you before the last battle in New York that there was Hydra in SHIELD, but because of the battle in New York, we never had a chance to make a move. Moreover, the situation in the division is not optimistic. We didn't have a chance to clean up all the divisions, but now we are almost ready. We just didn't expect them to make the first move."

"So now we can do it?" Natasha Romanov asked.

Nick Fury nodded and said, "We have to make a move no matter what. Hydra has obtained a batch of tactical nuclear warheads. If the three motherships take off, they can attack without restraint. We can't let them succeed. Originally, Hydra planned to install a large number of weapons on the mothership, but I stopped them. Now, they actually plan to use tactical nuclear bombs."

"We really can't let the mothership take off," Steve Rogers said, but his next words silenced everyone. "And we just have to do this and destroy SHIELD."

Wesley looked at him. There was something wrong with this guy's thinking, and his ideas were too one-sided.

Nick Fury naturally wouldn't agree and said directly, "SHIELD has nothing to do with this."

"If you give me the mission, then you have to do it. SHIELD has been infiltrated by Hydra. Hydra is right under your nose, and you really can't do anything about it. Who knows how many people will die in this battle."

Wesley spoke up at this point. "So how many people will die after SHIELD disappears?" No one understood what he said and looked at him in confusion.

"Nine-Headed Hydra is not only in S.H.I.E.L.D. During World War II, the United States received a lot of German heritage. There are a lot of Hydra personnel in it. As I said, Hydra has existed for thousands of years. That's why they shout 'cut off one head and grow two heads' because no one has ever really destroyed them." Wesley stood up and lit himself another cigarette.

He looked at everyone and said, "Although I have only joined SHIELD for two years, I know what SHIELD has been doing all this time. SHIELD isolates aliens from some mysterious things and ordinary people, which is why the earth has been stable. Hydra is created by the worship of an alien creature. If SHIELD is lost, how many such organizations will appear on the earth?"

"In addition, S.H.I.E.L.D. has obtained alien technology and mysterious items that technology can't explain for decades. There are thousands of these things. Do you know how many intelligence agencies, including the U.S. military, are drooling over them? Do you know who these things will fall into the hands of once they lose the protection of S.H.I.E.L.D.? The United States is a capital country. What can those capitalists not do for benefits?"

"You can choose not to participate in this mission. We will choose to fight without you. Just like Phil said, someone has to sacrifice something. Someone has to face it, even if it means dying in battle. SHIELD will not disband. I will do my best to keep it. After this purge, it will be more cohesive and combat power. Hydra will suffer the heaviest blow, and SHIELD will bite them and not let them go until they are all destroyed."

No one else spoke. Only Wesley and Steve Rogers stood facing each other, watching each other. The atmosphere between them was very stiff.

"We still have the Avengers to fight. It's not bad to give those things to the United States government," Steve Rogers said.

"Do you think that without S.H.I.E.L.D., those heads of state will let a powerful organization like the Avengers wander out of their control? At that time, they will force the Avengers to accept management. If you don't agree, then this organization is illegal. Although S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Avengers are not in the same category, the Avengers need S.H.I.E.L.D. as a basic guarantee."
