Chapter 115 - Sudden Hearing

Wesley downloaded the S.H.I.E.L.D. information that Elizabeth had, but there was no news of the Tesseract here. It seemed that Nick Fury had listed the Tesseract as the highest level of confidentiality. Now it seemed that there was no way to contact it. He could only wait until Loki came to Earth and Wesley began to have nothing to do again. He was ready to return to New York and spend the summer with Mindy.

However, Phil Coulson suddenly informed him of a piece of news that changed his schedule again. This time, he needed to go back to Washington headquarters and accompany Nick Fury to a hearing. The content of the hearing was to evaluate the need for the Avengers to exist. Wesley was curious about such a thing. Why would Nick Fury ask him to participate?

Back in the Quinjet in Washington, Wesley asked, "Mr. Director, why do you want me in this hearing?"

"Because you're also a member of the Avengers," Nick Fury answered simply.

"So what? Aren't Hawkeye and Black Widow the same? Wouldn't it be better to ask them to attend?" Wesley asked.

"You don't know much about Natasha's past. She can't attend such hearings; Hawkeye is an excellent agent, but he is not suitable for such activities. Only you can. You are not only an agent of SHIELD, but also a member of the Avengers, and you are not bound by something." Wesley frowned at Nick Fury's words. Was it some bureaucratic thing again?

Bureaucrats were not a specialty of China. The United States also had these things, but they liked to wrap some clothes around it and make their reasons sound dignified, always putting themselves on the moral high ground.

Early the next morning after returning to headquarters, Nick Fury took Wesley to a conference room in S.H.I.E.L.D.'s headquarters. There were four empty chairs. When Alexander Pierce saw them, he turned on the comms. A glass rose in front of each of the four chairs, and then four holograms appeared.

Wesley looked around, but there were no chairs for them. This was too much. He went straight to the side, took a chair, and sat down.

No one else said anything about his actions, and Alexander Pierce began to preside over the hearing. "Ladies and gentlemen, today's hearing is to prove whether there is a need for the Avengers to exist. Several members of the World Security Council standing committee are responsible for asking questions, and Director Nick Fury and Agent Wesley Gibson answered. So it begins now."

The only woman among the four councilors asked directly, "Director Fury, what reason did you have to suggest the establishment of the Avengers?"

Nick Fury stood in front of them and said with his head held high, "Because we need to. I think everyone is clear about the incident in New Mexico. Thor, a mythical figure, and the information is very clear about how powerful the Destroyer chasing him is."

"This is the first proof that aliens do exist. It can prove that they can come to Earth and prove that they are more advanced than our civilization level. Once they want to do something to Earth and we have almost no power to fight back, what should we do?"

"The Avengers were formed for this reason. Captain America, Iron Man, and other people are organized together. They don't need to do anything usually, but if we really encounter an alien invasion, we need to let those aliens know that we are not powerless."

Another committee member asked, "So how do you ensure that they are safe?" This meant that Wesley was not happy to hear whether the Avengers were safe for Earth.

"You mean we're not safe?" Wesley said directly. He also knew why Nick Fury asked him to come.

"Isn't it? Let's not talk about Captain America first. He is still recovering. What about Iron Man Tony Stark? He is not controlled. He is a very casual person."

"Hehe, control? That's your purpose, right? All you want is control. Everything that is not under your control is a threat. Why don't you say this to the aliens? Tell them that they are not under control. They are a threat." Wesley mocked them.

"Agent Wesley Gibson, watch your language." The other party was furious.

"Words? Isn't this a hearing? I accompanied Tony to a hearing. Didn't I speak casually? Or do you want to fire me? Oh, then I'll get my lawyers to send you a lawyer letter," Wesley said indifferently.

Crossing his legs, Wesley leisurely leaned back in his chair, completely ignoring these people.

"Ahem, we are here to discuss the necessity of the Avengers. Please pay attention to your words." Alexander Pierce stepped forward. He needed to let the hearing continue.

Wesley spoke first. "The existence of the Avengers is necessary. The existence of aliens has been confirmed, and they are so powerful that we can't resist them. Just look at Saul. Fortunately, their Divine Realm is friendly to us, and they will help us resist the invasion of aliens when necessary."

"Agent Wesley Gibson, how can you be sure that they don't have the idea of invading the earth?" an Asian commissioner asked.

"I really don't want to answer such a stupid question. Why should I promise? If they want to invade, do you have a way to stop them? Since you can't stop them, what's the point of this promise? Tell me, what's the point of this promise?" Wesley stared and asked. The other party opened his mouth but didn't say anything.

"What are you people thinking? Even if they are a threat, what do you plan to do? Start a war? You have to know that the Divine Realm has descended on Earth in ancient times. They fought for Earth and left behind myths and legends. They were worshiped by people in the past as gods. So what are you going to do to the Divine Realm?"

Wesley's question was impossible to answer. The power of the earth could not be compared to that of the Realm of the Gods. The power that Sol had displayed alone left them with no way out.

"Is there no way? Then what's the point of this guarantee? Control? You want to control a god? I really don't understand the thoughts of politicians. If that's all you think about all day, then what's the point of SHIELD's existence? Even children know to befriend strong friends and not anger them. Don't you understand?"

"And the Avengers are not just showing the races outside the earth that the earth is not powerless to fight back. Even if we are behind, we have a special group of people and we can fight on."
