Chapter 989 - Hell, How Can Cars Fly?!

At Ivan's shout, all the wizards present sensibly fled under the Auror's protection, lest they die under Grindelwald's wand.

The slightly crowded chairman's office suddenly became spacious.

Grindelwald, trapped in the middle of the flames, frowned. Ivan was the only enemy left, but the situation had not improved.

From the exchange of blows earlier, he had realised how difficult the opposition was to deal with, not to mention the fact that he was now trapped in the MACUSA compound. Once the Aurors of the Department of Mysteries reactivated their protective spells, he would definitely die!

Since Apparition could not be used, there was only one way to leave!

Grindelwald's eyes sharpened, and with a flick of his Elder Wand, the blue flames on the ground gathered into a fiery whip and lashed out, shattering the annoying Unicorn's Shadow!

Ivan, of course, wasn't going to just stand there and watch. With a wave of his wand, a swarm of magical beams shot towards Grindelwald, who was standing nearby. The flickering blue electric arcs were like vipers, interfering with Grindelwald's performance from all angles…

However, Grindelwald remained calm and composed even in the face of such an intense attack. The broken pillars and wooden chairs around him flew towards him under the influence of his magic, blocking the path of every single beam of magic.

The wall of fire rose again, swallowing everything around it, and Ivan manipulated the flames to squeeze Grindelwald's living space.

It could be seen that the confrontation with over a hundred Aurors had affected Grindelwald greatly…

Grindelwald waved his wand at his feet just as the Fire Demon transformed into a phoenix and charged at him.

"Split up!"

The floor, which had already been ploughed by many charms, cracked under the influence of the immense magic, and dense cracks spread out like cobwebs.

Crack…

A second later, with a dull thud, the tiles beneath Grindelwald's feet collapsed.

It was almost a copy of the battle in the crypt of Nicolas Flamel, but this time it was Grindelwald who did the dirty work, trying to get Ivan off his back in such an extreme fashion.

In an instant, the Fire Phoenix crashed to the floor, creating a terrifying inferno in the office. However, Grindelwald had already escaped, leaving behind an irregular hole in the floor that was about two meters wide…

Ivan, of course, wasn't going to let Grindelwald get away. He didn't even have time to calm the scattering flames before he jumped down…

Under the influence of the Transfiguration Charm, the large wizard's robe extended into a large cape, which glided through the air and supported Ivan.

Below, Grindelwald was free-falling, his vibrating wand pointing to the arched steeple in front of the ground-floor entrance.

The golden statues of two bald eagles standing on either side of the steeple suddenly blinked, and one of them flapped its wings and flew to Grindelwald's side at breakneck speed, its powerful talons gripping Grindelwald's shoulders as it flew him toward the entrance of the Congressional Gate.

The other bald eagle let out a high-pitched cry and charged at Ivan.

Ivan moved the cloak behind his back like an eagle with superb flying skills. He dodged the oncoming bald eagle and then used the Exploding Spell to blast the pure gold eagle into pieces.

It was this momentary delay that allowed Grindelwald to land on the back of the bald eagle statue. The exit was not far ahead!

Due to the riot that had just broken out, the Aurors of the Magical Congress of North America were either busy putting out fires in the Department of Mysteries or protecting important people, so the exit was now completely unguarded and he could break through easily.

Grindelwald's lips curled into a smile, but then an inexplicable feeling of dread settled over him, as if he were in mortal danger…

Grindelwald thought of something and his expression changed. He immediately reached into his chest with his left hand and pulled out a silver raven. He flicked his wrist and was about to throw it out, but it was too late!

The silver raven quickly turned red and exploded the moment it left Grindelwald's hand, filling his field of vision with fiery light. Several of the protective enchantments that had been placed on Grindelwald's body shattered, and the resulting shockwave propelled him through the glass of the entrance and out of the Capitol.

… .

At the same time, outside the Woolworth Building in the New York City area, two Muggle security guards were idly watching the traffic.

Suddenly, the ground seemed to shake, and just as they were wondering if they were mistaken, the glass behind them exploded and a figure flew past them, crashing heavily into a parked limousine…

The unexpected sight stunned the two Muggle security guards.

What had happened? A terrorist attack?

Before they could figure out what was going on, they saw something even more horrifying. The man who had flown out of the building with half of his hand blown off was now standing up straight, a small round stick in his hand. He didn't seem to be doing anything, but the wrecked car behind him was now hovering in the air, swinging towards them.

"Bloody hell!" a Muggle security guard muttered to himself as he dropped his truncheon, wondering if he was dreaming.

How can a car fly?

What convinced him even more was the fact that the luxury car was slowly becoming transparent and disappearing from his sight. All he could hear was a voice behind him.

"Disappear!"

Ivan stepped out of the Capitol Building and, after dispatching the car with a Vanishing Charm, casually cast a Confusion Charm on the two Muggle security guards.

"I can't believe you had the nerve to take the key I gave you with you…" Ivan said mockingly as he looked at Grindelwald, who had lost half of his left arm.

In order to clear his name, he had been forced to hand over the real key, but that didn't mean he hadn't spiked it.

In case of the worst-case scenario, Ivan was prepared to destroy one of the keys if necessary, in case Grindelwald failed.
