Chapter 575 - I Think You Know the Nature of Magic, Don't You? (Two in One)

To confirm this suspicion, Ivan turned his attention to Dumbledore's right hand.

Unfortunately, Dumbledore's right hand was hidden in his sleeve and he could not see if the man was wearing the ring…

However, Ivan had never been very interested in the Resurrection Stone and did not care much about it.

Its purpose was to reveal the souls of the dead.

According to the original work, this soul was still fake. It only showed you the appearance of the other party in your memory. It was the most useless of the three Deathly Hallows!

While Ivan mulled this over, Dumbledore and Nick continued their argument.

"Albus, you should know that I've wasted a lot of time…" Nick Flamel's expression was sour. "According to the plan, I should have been… with her by now!"

"Well, you missed it anyway, didn't you? A little later wouldn't have mattered!" Dumbledore said forcefully. "You should know that this is not just about me, or the British wizarding community!"

"Yeah, I hope you know what you're doing!" Nick snapped, rolling his eyes. "Do you really think everything will go your way? Albus… no one is in control, not even a god!"

"Perhaps… but I think this is our best chance," Dumbledore replied noncommittally.

Unwilling to engage in a fearless argument with Nick over this, he quickly changed the subject, requesting that Nick fix the Deathly Hallows as soon as possible.

Nick showed no signs of backing down. It would take him at least two years to repair such a legendary object, even if he tried his best.

'Two years?'

Dumbledore appears disappointed, which means he may not live to discover the secret…

"In that case, I'm afraid we'll have to prepare for the worst…" Dumbledore muttered to himself, looking unusually tired.

Having failed to get the promise he wanted, Dumbledore rose slowly and took his leave.

Before he left, he reminded Nick not to forget the promise he had made to him that if things went south, he could make his own decisions…

Nick nods and watches as Dumbledore walks out of the hut and disappears into the golden flames.

There was a long silence, during which Nick stood frozen, lost in thought.

Ivan didn't dare to interrupt and could only ponder what the "best chance" and "worst-case scenario" meant.

He had a feeling Dumbledore and Nick weren't just talking about the Resurrection Stone…

"I'm sorry, Hales, I was distracted!" After a while, Nick recovered and looked at Ivan apologetically.

"It's all right, Monsieur Flamel!" Yvonne shook her head, indicating that she did not care.

Ivan then curiously asked what they had been arguing about, hoping to get some inside information.

"You know, when you get old, you have to worry about things that don't add up," Nick explained with a smile, obviously not planning to reveal anything.

Yvonne pursed her lips in disbelief.

Ivan, however, did not hold out much hope at first; if he had been told, Dumbledore and Nick would not have tried to avoid the point in their argument.

Yvonne could only guess from what she had learned that it might have something to do with Lord Voldemort.

In the original timeline, Dumbledore used the Elder Wand and his own death to dig a hole for Voldemort.

The former was the cause of Lord Voldemort's death, and the latter was an important factor in his downfall. It was through the loss of this formidable foe that Lord Voldemort transformed from a conspirator hiding in the shadows into a brute who knew nothing but Avada!

Until then, Lord Voldemort's intelligence was impeccable.

Not only was he able to take Harry from under Dumbledore's nose during the Triwizard Tournament, but he was also able to avoid declaring his return to the wizarding community in the first place when he was truly revived, and instead decided to hide his strength and provoke trouble between Fudge and Dumbledore!

However, this changed completely after Dumbledore's death, as Voldemort became more and more arrogant, believing himself invincible.

Combined with the destruction of his Horcruxes, Voldemort suffered a series of mental blows in a short period of time, and committed himself to Trelawney's prophecy, before finally succumbing to Harry.

This echoed the saying, "To destroy, one must first be driven mad!"

It is just that things are different now than they were then, and Ivan does not know if Dumbledore would have used the same method, and it is reasonable to assume that the old professor would not have lived long enough to do so.

Despite his thoughts, Ivan remained calm and composed, pretending to be disappointed that he had not heard the news.

Nick offered words of comfort, then changed the subject, testing Ivan's skill in alchemy with interest.

He had always heard that Ivan was very talented in alchemy, but he did not know the details, so he had to find out for himself.

When faced with Nick Flamel's examination, Yvonne was naturally able to answer the questions fluently, as she was able to recite all of the spell sequences she had mastered, as well as her daily progress and methodology.

Although his alchemy had been upgraded to Level 6, and he was now qualified to teach according to the system, he had never had a good enough guide, so he had learned many things from reading books.
