Ivan was silent for a long time. He did not expect Dougett to have become a Death Eater for such a reason.
"The Dark Lord only gave me ten minutes to think about it, and then… I agreed, and he carved the Dark Mark on my left wrist."
Doggett pulled back his left sleeve. The faint black skull mark was visible, and his face was unreadable.
After a pause, Doggett continued.
"After I defected, the Black Devil planned to launch an all-out attack that night!
Later that evening, however, the Dark Lord broke his promise and did not enter the fray himself, having received word at the last minute that he had more important things to attend to… Before leaving, he ordered the Death Eaters involved in the attack to temporarily follow my orders."
"So, in order to avoid casualties during the battle, I sought out a few close friends, explained the situation to them, and persuaded them to join forces and seize control of St Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries."
"You didn't find a chance to talk it over with Dean Bohan?" Yvonne wondered why Doug hadn't simply tried to convince his father if he was capable of reaching his friends.
"You don't know my father. He's a complete stick-in-the-mud, and he's not going to surrender, no matter what!" said Doggett, shaking his head.
"You would never have guessed that the next time we met, his first words were, 'Why am I still alive?' "
"Yes! He must have wanted nothing more than for me to be tortured to death by Death Eaters, preferably hacked to pieces and shipped back!
This way he could point to the corpse and proudly declare that his son was a worthy warrior! A fearless hero!"
Doggett lost control of his temper and roared, "But no! I came back alive and became a Death Eater! It made him look bad in front of everyone else, it made the Bohan family look bad…
All he cares about is what he sees as justice and glory! He thinks that's more important than anything, more important than my life, his life… and the lives of over a hundred people in St Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries!"
"He likes to be a saint, so he thinks everyone is a saint like him!" Dagget said through gritted teeth, his eyes bloodshot.
Doggett knew his father well. That man would force everyone to do what he believed in, whether they liked it or not!
However, when she recalled the look of shock and disbelief on Bohan's face when she reached him alive, she was pleased.
Ever since he was young, he had been forced to do things that met the other party's expectations. This time, he made the exact opposite of what his father had expected!
Doggett wanted to prove he had made the right choice!
He was the one who had protected so many lives. Otherwise, everyone present would have died an extremely painful death!
However, fate seemed to have played a joke on him, and shortly after he took over St Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries, bad news arrived.
Voldemort, the most powerful Dark Wizard in the wizarding world, is dead!
Died at the hands of a newborn child!
When Doggett heard the news, he wondered if he had misheard. He had just seen the Dark Lord that morning, and he was so powerful and alive!
How could a child destroy such a powerful Dark Lord!
However, the Aurors charged in and caught the panicked Death Eaters, including him!
What Dawg found most difficult to believe was that he expected his father to speak up for him in court, but there was nothing… nothing!
If he had not insisted that he was under the influence of the Dark Lord's Imperius Curse and had not had the help of his friends, he would have been thrown into Azkaban to accompany the Dementors!
After escaping from the Ministry of Magic, his father did not let him off the hook. Not only was he removed from his post as Deputy Head of House, but he was also expelled from the Bohan family…
Overnight, he lost everything, fell from grace, and became a despised traitor and coward…
"Afterwards, I came alone to Knockturn Alley and made the acquaintance of your mother, Alicia. As your mother should know, that is probably all I have to say…" Doggett instinctively touched his waist, only to find that he had not brought a wine jug with him.
Ivan and the others had different expressions as they listened to the story.
Hermione was most touched, her eyes full of sympathy.
When she first found out that Doggett was a Death Eater, she had expected him to be, as described in the book, a vicious, murdering mobster, but she was wrong.
Yvonne stared at the middle-aged man in front of her, who seemed to be suffering from alcoholism, and for some reason she thought of the pictures she had seen on the walls of the mansion.
He was a handsome wizard with a head of thick brown hair, who was always holding a trophy and had a smile on his face.
Ivan never understood how Doggett could have changed so much in just over a decade,
They could not understand how a young man who became the Deputy Director of St Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries could end up drinking in Knockturn Alley.
By now, Ivan understood a little better, and it was likely that Doggett had been so devastated by the series of attacks that he had taken refuge in Knockturn Alley, a no-man's land where he could not be found.
However, Ivan was unable to comment,
Although Dean Bohan may not have been a good father, he had many problems.
However, it was through such a stubborn and strong-willed person that the injured Aurors and their staunch resistance could find a place to recuperate and continue the cause of the Dark Lord in those dark times.
St Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries was only able to hold out until the destruction of Voldemort's forces…
Similarly, Ivan could not argue with Doggett's choice, as not everyone would be able to leave everything they valued behind and take their friends and family with them to their deaths… Many people would abandon their boundaries and compromise for the moment in order to protect those they cherished.
To put it bluntly, it was a difference in ideology between the two parties,
Add to that the fact that Doggett had the bad luck to hit a prophecy kill, and he was forced to hit GG in desperation…
If Lord Voldemort's rule had lasted longer, perhaps the outcome would have been much better if Dougett's choice had saved these people's lives… instead of the feeble attempt to defend himself that he had made in court.
