Chapter 281 - Learning Phantom Shift

As for the professor who would act as his guarantor, Ivan already had someone in mind. Lupin, who would be the Defence Against the Dark Arts professor next year, was a good choice.

As the inventor of the Wolf Venom Potion, it should be easy to gain the trust of a werewolf wizard like Lupin…

Yvonne wondered how she was going to convince Lupin to help her write an application for the Ministry…

Sirius, on the other hand, was quite frustrated with Ivan's insistence and lack of comfort.

During his time as a student, there was no such thing as a third-year student taking all of the classes at once.

As such, Sirius did not know that he could request a Time-Turner from the Ministry of Magic.

With this in mind, Sirius gave up trying to convince her otherwise and suggested that they go to Flourish and Blotts in Diagon Alley in the afternoon to buy some books for the next school year.

It would not do to stay in his room all the time, and he still expected Ivan to find time to go for a walk.

Ivan did not hesitate to shake his head. He would leave the buying of the books to Dobby. He did not want to waste time on them.

However, Ivan seemed to have thought of something and asked, "Mr. Black, you should be able to use Apparition, right?"

'Of course. Why do you ask?' Sirius asked curiously.

"Can you teach me?" Ivan asked seriously, putting down Snape's research notes.

The attack on the wizarding shop made Ivan fully aware of the importance of Transfiguration.

If he had been capable of this spell, he would have been able to return to his shop and kill the intruders, thereby preventing the incident from occurring.

So this is pretty much the kind of magic Ivan is dying to learn!

If not for the fact that house-elves cast spells differently from wizards, Ivan would have asked Dobby to teach him.

"You want to learn Transfiguration?" Sirius instinctively tried to refuse.

Ivan is too young to be in his third year…

In the wizarding world, Apparition was generally restricted to students aged seventeen or older, as young wizards and witches of that age had sufficient magic and control to master such a difficult spell.

However, Sirius also understood that Ivan was no ordinary young wizard!

To be able to master even a high-end transfiguration spell like the Animagus, as well as possess a powerful stare-to-look petrification spell, there was nothing special about transfiguration.

'All right! If you insist… I'll teach you!' Sirius agreed, after much thought.

Afternoon,

Sirius took Ivan to a deserted area of Knockturn Alley, which was quite empty and generally deserted, making it a good place to practise his Transfiguration.

As they stood in the middle of the ruins, Sirius turned to Ivan, his face serious.

"Before I teach you, I want to know what you know about Shifting."

Yvonne extracted the message from her mind and replied.

"This is a high-level spell that allows a wizard to teleport from one location to another. The incantation is either Disapparated or Apparated. Different incantations depend on different situations…"

Ivan went on and on, although he did not know much about the spell. He only remembered that it seemed to be a sixth- or seventh-year course at Hogwarts, and that it involved the risk of having to split up, though he could not remember much more about it.

After Ivan explained his understanding of the spell, Sirius nodded, and seeing that Ivan seemed to know something about it, Sirius skipped the introduction and began teaching.

Sirius waved his wand and blew a hole in the ground in the distance, then pointed at it.

"You see that pothole? The first step in practicing Apparition is to establish a destination for teleportation. You need to focus your mind on the target you want to reach before you cast the spell!"

Ivan looked at the pit in the distance and, according to Sirius, tried to keep his eyes on it.

"The second step is to make up your mind that you must move to your goal! It is especially important to allow the thought of going there to flood your mind!" Sirius said sternly.

The vast majority of those who failed at Apparition were split at this point.

They did not trust their own strength, fearing that they would fail to perform the spell, or that they would waver in the process.

Casting a Transfiguration in such a situation could easily result in one part of the body appearing on the target and the other part remaining in place.

Of course, a split wizard would not die on the spot. Instead, the magic would remain in the broken wound, connecting the two halves of the split body.

However, if this state continued for too long, the residual magic in the fracture would disappear, and the split wizard would be finished.

Sirius rambled on, explaining the dangers to Ivan, who nodded cautiously.

This time, Ivan did not intend to use GPA to speed up his studies.

He planned to use all his GPA on Potions!

Ivan was well aware of his own limitations, and was certain that he would not be able to compete with Snape, who had invented his own Charms and modified potions as a student.

When he thought about how he would be able to produce an enhanced version of the Polyjuice Potion in a short period of time, the only thing he could rely on was the Learning Acceleration Mode of the Academic Genius Experience Card. He had to save his GPA!

Because of this, Ivan was very attentive to Sirius's instructions, and only continued after Sirius had explained all the difficulties and points.

"Is there a third step?"

"The third step is to take it easy!" Sirius said with a smile, sensing Ivan's nervousness.

"The more natural the Disillusionment, the better, just like that!" Sirius said as he demonstrated to Ivan.

"Phantom Apparition!" Sirius waved his wand, turning his body at will and disappearing, reappearing at the marked location.

'Just like that! See?' Sirius flashed back to his original position.

Ivan nodded, eager to try, his eyes fixed on the location of the mark, and recited the incantation as Sirius had done…
