Chapter 302 - Scabbers, You Are My Savior!

When they returned to the empty classroom, the two of them stared at each other, and the atmosphere was awkward.

Yvonne also gave up the idea of reprimanding Hermione, as Madam Pomfrey claimed that her condition was much worse than Hermione's.

"It looks like we're going to have to come up with a detailed schedule!" Ivan said with a resigned sigh.

Ivan then began to work on a new schedule, most crucially restricting the use of the Time-Turner.

Go back thirty hours a day, try to avoid going back in time too many times, drink a bottle of tonic every three days, etc…

After a strict schedule was set, the two of them felt much more relaxed over the next few days, although the pace of their potion research slowed considerably.

Even though Ivan put in all the GPA he earned every day, there was still a core problem that he could not solve.

That was why the effects of the Polyjuice Potion had suddenly disappeared when he experimented with the black-robed wizards.

Ivan frowned deeply at the thought.

After a moment's hesitation, he picked up the Polyjuice Potion on the table, casually added a strand of hair he had collected in school over the past few days, and drank it.

Yvonne looked in the mirror beside her and saw that she had transformed into a skinny young wizard.

"Shadowless Blade!"

When the effects of the potion had settled down, Ivan placed his wand against his arm and whispered an incantation, releasing the charm.

The invisible blade of magic sliced through his skin, causing blood to flow from the wound and dye the table red.

Hermione turned at the noise and was shocked to see a long cut on the arm of an unknown young wizard.

Hermione instantly guessed that Ivan had drunk the Polyjuice Potion, as she and Ivan were the only ones there.

The witch panicked when she saw the blood pouring from Ivan's wrist.

Fortunately, she remembered that she had read in Advanced Potion-Making that Dittany could heal injuries, so she rummaged through the book, grabbed a Dittany, and ran over like a madwoman. She grabbed Ivan's injured arm and dripped Dittany on the wound.

However, the wound was still bleeding profusely, and the fresh juice had no effect.

"That's impossible! Why wouldn't it work?" Hermione said urgently, on the verge of tears.

Yvonne, not expecting Hermione's reaction, quickly explained.

"Don't worry, Hermione, I'm just doing an experiment…it's just part of the experiment."

As she spoke, Ivan placed his wand in the wound and whispered a counter-curse that sounded like a song. The wound on his arm immediately healed.

He was merely testing the stability of the Polyjuice Potion, especially when the drinker was badly injured and was being treated.

'Experiment?'

Hermione watched in shock as Ivan's arm slowly healed and the blood on the table returned to the wound.

Concerned, Yvonne was about to question him when Hermione clenched her teeth and punched him in the stomach.

Ivan stumbled under the effects of the Polyjuice Potion and nearly knocked into the cauldron behind him. He straightened up, clutching his stomach, and saw that Hermione's eyes were red.

"What kind of person cuts their arm for an experiment? Can't you experiment with something else?" Hermione was furious. "And you didn't give me any notice!"

Yvonne opened her mouth to explain, but she didn't know where to begin, so she just scratched her head.

He did not think too much about it when he was researching the potion. It was purely a spur-of-the-moment attempt. When he cast the spell, he deliberately controlled the power of the Shadowless Blade Spell, so there was no danger.

After all, Polyjuice Potion only worked on humans, and he couldn't possibly catch a few young wizards at Hogwarts to experiment on, could he?

Ivan is not that cruel, and it would be bad if there were casualties, and Dumbledore would tear him apart…

It would be nice if they could find a "little white mouse" who was full of evil and had a strong life force, and could die in an experiment without anyone noticing…

Ivan sighed to himself. Not only would his potion-making efficiency improve, but he wouldn't have to experiment on himself all the time.

Wait… there really is such a person!

Ivan's face lit up as a thought struck him.

Scabbers, you are my savior!

"Ivan, you've thought of a way to improve the potion?" Hermione asked with concern, seeing Ivan's face light up with joy.

"No, I just thought there were some experiments that you could do with a mouse…" Ivan explained. He was the kind of person who would forget everything and use a Stunning Spell to make Peter feel nothing afterward.

"Is that why you thought of using mice as test subjects?" Hermione asked, glowering like a lioness.

Ivan grimaced. The subject he was referring to was no ordinary mouse.

Only an Animagus like Peter Pettigrew could satisfy his experimental needs!

He had to find a way to get that man from Ron the Rat-Controller!

This, however, was not something she was meant to share with Hermione, and she only let it go after Ivan apologized profusely and promised never again to conduct such a dangerous experiment on himself.

Ivan would have been a fool to experiment with his own body if he had known there was going to be an experimental subject.

Eventually, however, Hermione pulled a long face, apparently still angry at him, and ignored him for the rest of the morning as she went through the potion books.

Ivan shook his head dismissively and returned his attention to the study of potions.

After waiting for about an hour, Ivan clearly felt the effects of the Polyjuice Potion begin to wear off.

From the looks of it, the effects of the Polyjuice Potion should have been minimal, not enough to interrupt the potion's effects.

"Why are there no books dedicated to the study of how potions change in the dead?"

At noon, Ivan returned to the Great Hall to enjoy his lunch with a headache and a sigh. He felt that the steak in front of him did not smell so good anymore…

In the past few days, he had searched through all the books on potions he could find, but there did not seem to be any relevant research.
