Before inter-dimensional travel was invented, there was a breakthrough in neurotechnology called "The Cuneate Line".

By overriding the sensory command center of the brain, the link established between human and machine transcended the individual to the observer, breaking down the third wall.

"What you perceive is what you manifest, and vice versa."

Those who had a Cuneate Line implant were thus able to phase into arbitrary realities that manifest as a result of the user's thoughts.

However, mastery of reality warping is nearly impossible, with 95% of users dying from worlds that collapse in on themselves. Only a select few who are strong of mind survived.

These individuals are called "The Afferents" and this is their story…

The first mass Cuneate Line full dive was a massive event of 5000 Afferent participants, and unfortunately a catastrophe. It brought about the event now known as "The First Advent".

During this event, the dissonance of neural signals leaking from the Cuneate Lines in close proximity caused chaotic oscillations in the surrounding elementary particles. This directly increased the level of chaos, corrupting many of the Afferents present.

The chaos also led to dimensional tears, with the oscillations also creating god-like beings that emerged from these tears, who wielded the power to bend reality. These beings went on a rampage all around the planet, and are called the "The Sentients".

Survivors of the First Advent united around the uncorrupted Afferents, who formed the organization called Synthesia to ensure the survival of humanity on Terra. Ever since then, Synthesia has been engaged in an unending war with the Sentients.
