Chapter 13 - The Docks

Chapter 13

Gunshots rang in the air, bullets flying as it did.

The docks had been invaded and they few men that had been on standby had been shot dead.

"What's going on Sammy, how's the situation?" A voice boomed through the small district phone normally held by the sheriff's of the City.

"Sammy's dead, and the next head that would roll will be that of yours." Another answered the phone laughing as he raised the guy named Sammy's head up.

Blood dripped down his head and he smiled.

"You're all going to die, go tell that to your Boss. I will rule this City!"

"You know you think somehow I can't hurt you Ash and that's giving you the power to talk... so why don't we see to that first?!"

He made to move closer and she scooted away from him but the couch didn't give her much space to run to.

"I can squash you anytime I want to, do you know that?" He asked, and she huffed.

"I'm not an egg that could be squash."

"You will be, soon enough." He mumbled.

Staring at her as she made to shift to the other couch, so she could run away..many thoughts ran through his head and he sighed.

His phone rang and he picked it up, seeing who the caller ID was.

Ashley heaved a deep breath as he released her.

She watched his face go to that of anger...pure anger that darkened his eyes.

"What the fuck do you mean Rob?" He asked again, rubbing his forehead, trying to contain the anger that ran through his veins.

"The docks was invaded, three men dead, two injured and....." They other trailed off, afriad to lit the bomb.

"And what Rob?!"

"Sammy's dead."

"Get the groups ready, and keep the squad out of this.. we'll get back the docks tonight." He said, and hung up.

Turning to the woman that was staring at him as if he'd grown heads, he hissed and was about to walk away.

"Are you going to a war?" She asked, and he nodded.

"So you might as well hide under your closest Ashley, they may decide to come here and you get killed eventually." He said with a smirk.

No one would dare enter his premises, that was pure suicide.

Watching her eyes widened, his smirk broaden.

"Where are you going?" He asked, as she jumped up.

"To go home, I'll wait at home till you're back and then you come pick me up."

"You're not leaving anywhere, don't tell me you'll die just because of a small bullet Ashley." He was grinning but she was fuming.

"You're going to a war."

"That's what I do to keep the city safe." He answered nonchalantly.

"But it's not always safe, there are more killers at the end of the day." He frowned, hearing her words.

"I do what I have to do, you don't expect me to kill myself for you all. I try my best." He said, already pissed.

"You try but you don't do the complete job and...

"Shut up Ashley and stop spurting out trash with that small mouth. I work day and night to prevent this City from becoming the worst. You think without me, you'd be able to go home safe and sound without getting a man stop you, rape you till he's sure he's done. You think without me they'd be peace? I keep the crimes at Bay. That's what I fúçking do." He glared at her.

He shook his head, walking up to the other couch to grab his coat.

Earlier that day, he'd gone to the other cartels and made sure the casinos had been tightened with security

He'd kept the docks out, because the docks was something few people knew about and for someone to attack that..he was now sure he had a mole in his group.

He'll enjoy killing the bastard when he finds him.

He rang the small button on the door and a guard walk in.

"Make sure my darling wife does not leave the house." He said to the guard, his eyes on hers.

She scoffed, but kept her head down.

Ashley knew when to talk and when not to.

It wasn't his fault.

Although she hated him to the core, he was right.

He had kept the City safe. She recalled those times, when his father was still the capo..and they were both in highschool.

She'd watch the men rape women in broad day light, not minding the local Mafias.

But everything had changed the moment he had stepped on the throne.

She watched him walk out of the house and sighed.

She was going to be here all alone and what if someone actually dared to come.

Turning around, she headed for her room.

She locked the door and closed all the windows.

She was not ready to die and even though death was knocking of her door, she would not die in his house and give him the right to bury her.

Grabbing her phone, she called her sister.

"Hello Ashy?" Sandra's whispered and she frowned.

Why was she whispering?

"Sandra? What's going on? Where are you and why are you whispering?" Ashley asked, getting up from the bed.

"I'm at the hospital and the Boss's men are outside the room."

"Which Boss?" Ashley asked, frowning.

"Mikhail?" She asked again, and her sister mumbled a yes.

"Just call his name and save me the stress Sandra, I thought something bad had happened to you." Ashley sighed, bouncing back on the bed.

"Let's be clear Ashley, we all know he lets you call his name, and even when he was at school, his friends called him 'The Boss but you'd always go around calling him Mikhail and he did nothing to stop you. Remember that day I called him by his name?." Sandra huffed.

"Hmm... how's Mom?"

"She's doing well, how are you doing? Has he fucked you yet?'

"Can you not say it like that?"

"There's no other way to say it Ashley, if not that way." Sandra hissed.

Ashley knew what her sister was talking about but there was no going back anymore.

"The doctors said Mom would be awake by morning." Sandra said, clearing the air.

"Hmm."

"Will you come?"

"I might."

Hanging up, and dropping the phone by her side..she looked up the ceiling.

This was going to be her life for a year?
