Chapter 19 - 19. His Name

He raised a brow and folded his arms. "For now at least. You didn't say anything I could not have guessed but at least you confirmed them." He shrugged as his lips made a downward movement as if to say she was not completely useless.

Mauve felt her eyes tic at his condescending words. However, instead of calling him out on it, she slowly stood to her feet and carefully began to make her way to the doors she had just come in through.

He didn't say anything, all she felt was his gaze on her back. She touched the knob and heard his voice clear as day. "Your room is that way."

Mauve's hand froze on the door as she realized two things. One, she would have to turn around to face him, and secondly, she would have to ask where he was referring, none of the lists of the things she had to do seemed pleasing.

She sighed and took her time before she turned around. Their eyes met immediately and she wavered a little but she did not bring her eyes down even though it was pretty obvious who won the staring contest at least, she lost with her head high, literally.

"Where?" She asked.

He did not say a word, just pointed, Mauve followed his finger and her eyes immediately rested on a door. It was not a huge door and she could immediately tell, it led to a room.

She was going to share a connecting room with the vampire king. Her thoughts immediately went out of control and she tried to calm them down. Of course, she knew she had not been able to hide her shock about the connecting room and he obviously saw it but that would not change anything.

"I see," she returned. Suddenly, realizing that he could have told her as soon as she had stood up from the bed but he had watched her walk all the way to the door before telling her where the room was. Mauve felt irritated.

She glared at him and once again began to walk. She did not want to spend another minute in the room with him. He made her uncomfortable and right now, it was not in a good way.

She walked briskly, his gaze was intense. She could feel it on her skin, it almost felt like he was touching her. She gripped the doorknob a little too forcefully in her escape attempt.

She turned it and it opened. That was when Mauve realized there was no keyhole. The door was forever unlocked. A slight panic erupted but she quelled it.

Now was not the time to think about such. Besides, the vampire king looked like he had too much pride to stoop to such distasteful things but there was also the fact that he was the vampire king, there was probably no limit to his evilness.

"What can I call you?" Her eyes widened at her question. She had turned around to ask the question and not surprisingly he didn't react.

There was no thought process to the words she had altered, she didn't think about it, didn't even realize what she was saying until the words were out of her mouth.

Even though she was relatively curious, she did not think she would have asked him. Well, at least not yet. She was not as terrified as the first she saw him but it didn't mean she was not scared of him.

However, calling him the vampire king in her head was not going to work and they are married, his name was not supposed to be something she did not know.

He did not say anything for the longest time and Mauve knew there was no need to repeat the question as he had heard her loud and clear also even if he had not she did not have any courage to repeat it.

She turned her attention back to the door and turned the knob. She was red from her neck to the top of her head. She prayed he did not hear her because if he did and refused to reply she doubted she could look him in the face again. The door opened and she walked in without hesitation. The drapes were undone so it was easy to see around the room.

It was big, not as big as his room but she could see that they were similar rooms with hers being a slightly smaller version. There was a musky smell and she could tell the room had not been used in a while.

It looked clean but the smell was strong. Just how long ago was the room in use? She wondered. It smelt like a decade was an understatement. If she had wondered why they would give her, a human, this room at least now she had her answer.

Mauve let go of the door and it began to close soundlessly, just before the door would shut she heard, "You can call me, Jael." Followed by a slight click and the door slid in place.

Mauve rested against it, bringing her hands to her chest. "Jael," she muttered. It was a nice name.

She slowly went down to the floor, she was finally alone. Bending her head and placing it on her knees she slowly began to sob. Nothing excessive, just her shoulders vibrating a little.

This was for real, it was no nightmare that she would soon wake up from. She was with the vampires and her life was in their hands. Her life sucked before but this was some new level suck.

She sat there for a while as she cried out her fears and worries, not knowing when she would get a chance like this. Satisfied, she stood to her feet wiping her tears.

The first thing she did was to open the windows. "Boy, am I grateful they did not think the rest of the rooms did not need windows." She mumbled as she opened all four windows.

She stuck out her tongue. "This smell would kill me in mere seconds." She stuck her head out of the window a little, breathing in the fresh air.

She needed to take her bath and change out of the outfit she was wearing. Aside from the fact that she had been wearing it for two days, it was also stained with blood.

She figured it belonged to Damon, she probably got stained when she was in the carriage with Vae, who had had no qualms about being around the bleeding vampire.

As her thoughts strayed to her maid, she wondered where Vae was and if she was being treated. There was nobody she could ask and her only option was to take her bath. But how? Who could she possibly ask?

An unexpected knock sent her jumping. She yelped but immediately calmed herself down. "Who is it?" She asked.

"Sire asked to bring you bath water."

"Just a moment," she cried and quickly rushed to close the windows. The room became darker but thankfully, there was still enough light to see around.

"Come in," she said.
