Jael glanced down at her. "Are you okay?"
"Hmm," Mauve said absentmindedly. "Yeah."
Jael frowned, but he didn't ask her any more questions, just squeezed her hand a little tighter as he led her closer to the pile.
The moon shone brightly; even if Mauve's eyesight wasn't better, she would have been able to see just as clearly. The field wasn't empty, a few vampires were loitered around the Palers. It was hard to tell exactly what they were doing from the distance, but it looked like they were just staring at the Palers. One of them stretched out his leg to kick it, but when he noticed Jael's presence, he stopped and took a step back.
"Sire," Danag rushed towards him and bowed. "We did as you requested. I'll make sure to occasionally use more of the drug as time passes."
"There wouldn't be any need for that," Jael whispered.
"Why?" Danag asked and looked at Mauve, noticing her for the first time. "My lady." He bowed.
