Mauve was glad when the last meal eventually ended, as Louis kept eyeballing her through the entirety of the meal. Every time she lifted her head from her food, he was right there, staring. A couple of times, she had feared he might get noticed by Jael, but that didn't happen.
When they got to his room, Mauve wasted no time in getting ready for bed. She got into bed with Jael next to her, and he helped her tuck in, but Mauve had no intention to sleep, so she started a conversation.
"How was your day?" she said.
Jael raised a brow at her question. "You already asked how my day went."
"Uh-hmm," she agreed, "but you didn't give me details. You just said it was fine."
Jael narrowed his eyes at her, but he didn't complain. "Nothing too special. We picked up the training after the fire, and it took up most of my day. They were a bit paranoid, and for good reason, but I'd say we got some work done, and hopefully, things can return to normal soon enough."
