Chapter 4 - What a Time to Be Alive

Anbu found a cave and went inside to rest.

The sun rose and then set. Anbu stayed there until the hunger started to catch up.

He moved forward, still not looking back from where he came.

Starved and exhausted, he made his way to the first town he found. He walked through the streets in search of food.

"hello there," an old lady said to him.

Anbu looked at her with no reply.

She stared for a second, then walked away.

The sun started to set again.

Anbu sat down, back pressed against a building, and stared at the night sky.

"Am I going to die already..is this the Hirata curse. Even though I could grab someone's food faster than they could notice, I refused to steal someone's hard work. Meeting my family again is more meaningful."

Anbu's eyes closed.

He woke back up in a house. The lights were on, and he heard the water running. He looked around the room, confused about where he was.

The lady from earlier walked back into the room with a meal.

"Oh, you're awake. Thank god I was afraid you would have died." She said.

Anbu hopped on his feet and looked at her warily.

She put the food down on the floor and sat down.

"You should eat. I tried to feed you, but it was as if something was breathing down my neck every time I got near you, so I gave up. I managed to clean you and put you in new clothes."

Anbu sat down as well.

He stared at the steamy bowl of noodles in front of him.

He reached for the bowl but then stopped.

"Where is my sword." He said.

"So you do talk." She replied, "but I am sorry I didn't find you with a sword."

Anbu lifted the bowl to his mouth.

"Don't drink it." a voice said in his head—the sound of the dragons."

Anbu stopped before it touched his lip and moved his eyes to stare at the woman.

Instantly the woman moved up with a blade, her hand attacking Anbu but missing.

She looked around, and Anbu was gone.

She ran out of the house and looked around the neighborhood.

She looked up and saw Anbu standing in a house with his dragon-carved blade in his palm.

"How did he find it." She said.

Anbu thought about what he should do, but he got his answer after his stomach growled.

He jumped in the air and dived at the lady with his blade tip pointed toward her.

She tried to stop his sword with her own, but it shattered on impact, stabbing and killing her.

Anbu took it out and entered her house, making his way to the kitchen and finding good food.

"She tried to kill me first, so this is fine."

After he had packed some food and drinks, he started to move again. He sat on a hill. He stayed there for weeks, and his stash of food disappeared quickly.

He got back up and started moving again.

It became night again, and Anbu sat down and closed his eyes, thinking about everything that's happened so far.

A kid appeared in front of Anbu, staring at him.

Anbu opened his eyes, sensing his presence.

"This kid...is strong." Anbu thought.

"Hi, what's your name," Ray said.

Anbu stared at the kid standing before him. They looked to be the same age.

"It's Anbu." He answered.

Ray had a huge smile and grabbed his arm. "You're just like me, aren't you," he said.

Anbu was confused, but Ray told him to follow him as he ran off.

"where are we going," Anbu asked as he ran after him.

"come on, just follow me." Ray expressed.

They finally arrived at the top of a cliff, looking down at the sunset and the region.

"Sometimes, whenever I'm sad, I come here and pretend I'm a superhero looking over my people. I thought I was alone in his world, but we crossed paths. Which leads me to believe there are more of us."

"By us, do you mean Specials?" Anbu uttered.

Ray looked at him, confused. "Specials? You know what? I like it."

**Five years later**

"Hurry, we are going to be late."

Anbu went into the kitchen and grabbed a toast, then walked out.

He and Ray walked through the streets.

Anbu looked around as everyone walked around them very slowly.

"hanging with you gets so boring," Anbu said.

Ray laughed.

"Sorry, this isnt something I can turn off."

"Feels like we are in school two times longer than we should be."

Ray kept laughing as they continued walking.

A van pulled up near them, and Anbu stared at them, still having the toast in his mouth.

Three guys in suits jumped out and stood in front of Anbu and Ray.

Anbu grabbed his bookbag, tossed it at them, and vanished from the area.

Ray lifted his hand toward them, but they stopped his attack.

Ray broke free and kicked one of the guys back into the van.

He made a run for it, and he saw Anbu on the other side of the street.

They looked at each other and kept going straight.

They looked around, and more guys in suits trailed behind them on the roofs and the road.

They took different turns and dashed into alleyways splitting the group of chasers.

Anbu hit a dead end and looked back at the people cornering him.

''We got you right where we needed you," They said.

Anbu lifted his hand.

His room back home started to shake, and the sword broke threw the window and zipped across the sky, landing in hand.

"No, I got you where I needed you."

In an instant, all the soldiers fell to their knees, and Anbu walked out of the alleyway unscathed.

Ray also walked out of his corner, waving at Anbu on the other side.

They met up.

"Who were they," Ray questioned.

"Seems we can't hide from them any longer." He said, staring at the guy who walked in front of them.

Ray stared at the man and shivered from the power he felt from him.

"You guys will be a good pick." The man spoke.

Anbu remembered the man. He escorted the Hirata to the island.

More soldiers appeared and took out their weapons.

"You guys clear the area and put up power barriers," He told them.

They all left.

"We are running late for school, sir. Can we discuss this another time?" Ray said.

Anbu, let go of his sword, so it started floating on its own.

"The barriers are up." A soldier told the guy.

"Good," he said as he dashed toward Anbu and Ray.

Anbu's sword reacted and cut off the guy's direction. Anbu, on the other hand, could barely see what had happened.

He moved his finger up to get the sword under his control and attacked the man with it.

Ray backed up and touched the floor.

The man stared at the clock drawn below him.

He started to walk, and the drawing from Ray broke apart.

"So, time manipulation," he said, pointing at Ray. "You still haven't used your power." He said, looking at Anbu.

The man grabbed Anbu's sword out of the air and held onto it.

The sword made itself heavy to the point nobody could lift it, and the man had to let it go.

It lightened itself back up and flew behind Anbu.

"That is not a blade of history, so what is it," he asked.

Still ignoring the guy, Anbu rushed toward him, preparing an attack.

The man moved out of the way of it all.

Anbu performed a calf kick and then a side kick to the man's stomach, pushing him backward.

Ray stood in the air with giant clocks behind him. He ripped the hands off the clock and kept his hand floating.

Anbu looked at Ray and backed up.

"Lets do it," Anbu said.

Anbu also jumped in the air, and the clouds began to roar. A black and gold dragon appeared out of the sky.

Anbu hopped on one of them and went into its mouth, bringing out a second blade with dragon carvings.

He grabbed it and threw it at Ray.

"Make good use of it." He said.

The world around them started to change, the buildings fell apart, and the sky leaked red blood.

Clowns emerged from the ground and started running around.

The man took out his blade.

"I must take this attack seriously, or I might get hurt." He said.

The tip of his sword lit up, and he pointed it at the two kids floating above him.

Ray sent his clock hands storming toward the man, and Anbu's dragons followed behind it.

The clowns all rushed toward the man holding onto him.

The man's core lit up, and he kept the blade pointing at Anbu and Ray, ignoring the clowns.

Reversal core: 50% return.

The attack touched the blade, and an explosion happened.

Anbu and ray fell out of the sky, bruised, and their clothes were torn.

The world returned to its usual self, and the man lay on a wall bleeding.

"These kids are something; the next generation, in general, is amazing." He said as he thought about the rest of the kids he recruited.

He laughed as soldiers came to his aid.

"Man, what a time to be alive."
