Chapter 41 - Heated Argument

Zoey's POV :

"Mom, please do not. We'll surely find a way out of this...", I pleaded with her.

"You have to understand, we are running out of time. Your dad's health is deteriorating".

"And you want us to roam on the streets? I clearly have a fucking point, mum...", I jumped on the sofa.

Went a little bit far, I just used a swear word.

Her eyes bored into mine. "Your tone, Zoey! I'm still your mother", she scolded me as expected.

I almost forgot. "Sorry, but–

She cut in sharply, "I'm not gonna listen to you, Zoey. I don't care if you are against it or not, I'm giving our house out for auctioning".

"You won't dare, mum! For crying out loud, it's our family house". I wouldn't watch her do a thing we were gonna regret later on.

"Don't be silly, just stay out of this. You're being absolutely childish, now".

I rolled my eyes, cautiously. "I'm not a child, mum! Just give me more time, I'd get the money. Okay?", I gave her my words.

"And what if you don't?", she asked, taking out the leftover dishes on the dining table.

Actually, what if?

"Can we think positively, mum?".

"I'm just saying. If anything happens to your dad, I'm putting the blame on you", she warned sternly, walking out on me. She was probably heading to her room to overthink out her life.

"Nothing will happen to dad. He'll be absolutely fine", I screamed loudly to her ears.

There was nothing more I hated than arguing with my mum. It never ends well, she always got mad at me whenever I disagreed with her. She still thought of me as a child. She had a lot on her mind now and was obviously not thinking straight at the moment.

The documents were ready ever since, I guess I needed to take quick action. An easy but risky task for a handsome sum of money and I'll have his hospital bills cleared, in order for his treatment to proceed.

How hard could it be?

I was helpless at this point, there was no possible way I could reconsider my mission. I was gonna work so hard to ensure he scribbled his signature on them. I just hoped my plan doesn't backfire.

Things would have been much better if my dad's properties weren't frozen by the government. I don't still know why and how it happened back then, I just know it did, rather, I heard.

A story for another day, I yawned.

I turned off the television and ensured all the lights were switched off before making way to my room. I smuggled some snack to my room incase I felt hungry at midnight.

I decided to sneak in my mum's room to check up on her. She was already fast asleep. She still had a worried look on her face. I hated seeing her that way. "All will be fine, mum", I whispered to myself and kissed her cheek lightly.

I finally crawled up to my room. I had a really long day. It was about the eleventh hour now, less than an hour left to end the weekend and another hectic Monday ahead.
