Chapter 19 - Onboard

Kendall's POV

The drive to the airport was going smooth and calm. I was admiring every bit of the city for the last time because I wasn't sure of the year I would be returning back. A part of me was not happy that I was leaving. It was for my best interest, not like I wasn't coming back.

The brakes screeched sharply right in front of the airport. With the help of the driver, I dropped my luggages down from the trunk and watched him zoom the car off after I paid him my transport fare. I had a pretty long day ahead of me.

I dragged my feet as I rolled the boxes into the Airport for a check-in and my clearance. The boxes were inspected thoroughly by the Securities. It wasn't easy carrying those boxes around but it was advisable I did so to avoid the encounter of a missing luggage.

My flight departure time was delayed by fifteen minutes, so I had the time to run to the bathroom, grab something to eat as I hadn't eaten anything after the previous day. I helped myself to a chicken burger. Then, I busied myself with my phone taking lot of selfies.

Amongst the people waiting to get onboard were a few Black Americans but more of the whites. Soon, we got an announcement from one of the crews to get onboard and settle down within five minutes. I quickly got on my feet and went in through the toll gate.

As one of the first class passengers, I was able to pass through the crowd without much delay and stress. I finally settle down after stowing my luggages in the overhead compartment.

Then, another announcement came through. "We are now boarding all passengers in rows 1 through 3", I heard an audible female voice announce till the rows were partially filled. The air hostess listed out the names of passengers who weren't onboard yet.

It took a hell lot of time before all passengers were completed and yet to settle down. The passengers comprised of babies, the young, old, middle-aged men and women, and a few people with disabilities.

"Can I have your attentions, please?", I heard an air hostess announce in her British accent. She was dressed in a corporate blue suit and her hair styled in a ponytail. The plane became less rowdy, then she continued.

"Good day everyone. We're glad to welcome you to the United Airlines. Please, it will be of the best of our interests that we all adhere strictly to the safety rules and regulations guiding this plane. A safety manual will be distributed to each passenger onboard shortly. It's advisable to go through it. Enjoy your trip to Canada. Thank you", she said.

"We ask that you please fasten your seatbelts at this time and secure all baggage underneath your seat or in the overhead compartments. We also ask that your seats and table trays remain in the upright position for take-off. Lastly, disable WiFi on every electronic device and turn off every electronic devices till you're advised to do otherwise", she announced again before going mute.

The announcements are the most annoying parts in plane. They seemed to be endless and a pain to my ears. I couldn't wait to put on my headphones after the takeoff. Atleast, the cabinet for the first class passengers had lesser noise. It seemed cozy in there.

The wheels ran off through the runway and slowly began to takeoff. I felt scared a bit because I hadn't been on plane alone in my entire life. I either went with my mum, Adrian or Kayla on every trip but now, they all left. I closed my eyes tightly and tried distracting myself from reality till I was pretty sure it was on air.

I opened my eyes to find a light brown pair of eyes gaze hard on me. It was the guy next to me. It was rude to stare at someone you haven't met before in that manner. When he noticed I caught him red-handed, he wore a sexy smirk on his face, revealing his deep cute dimples. He was obviously tryna flirt with me. He had a dark curly hair and seductive lips.

"I'm Alex Cox", he introduced. I was in no mood for flirting with a guy at this moment, but he was tempting. Anyways, first impressions matter. Maybe he could help me someday, who knows?

I smiled faintly. "Kendall Campbell", I replied. I tried looking away to avoid an eye contact but it seemed almost impossible.

"Are you scared of heights?", he asked with a giggle. He was slightly making fun of my phobias. I rolled my eyes and diverted my gaze from his direction.

"Hey, I'm sorry if that came out the wrong way", he quickly apologized.

"It's cool, anyway. Well, I actually am", I replied straightforwardly and turned to face him.

"Do you mind us getting to know each other better?", he asked. Well, since I had nothing doing, I didn't hesitate to say yes.

We talked about various adventures, fashion, business and the world as whole. I got to know he was the CEO of one of the biggest companies in New York City. He also loved exploring the world which included traveling. And just like me, he was a fan of romance books and movies.

Alex had a good sense of humor. I suggested he went into comedy, he was gonna make lots more money if he did that. It wasn't a bad idea starting up a conversation with him. I would have missed out on this. We exchanged contact cards as he was gonna be at Canada for a couple of months for a business trip before returning back to New York.

"Please, let's all remain patient as breakfast will be served to everyone shortly. In the meantime, you can turn on your electronic devices. Thank you!", the air hostess announced.

Just as she had said, a young and decently dressed waitress moved into our cabinet with a breakfast food trolley and served us all. There were varieties of foods to select our choices due to allergies. I had a tray of fresh fruits, yogurt and breakfast sandwiches for breakfast.

"If you need any assistance, please reach out to the nearest flight attendant. Thank you!", the air hostess announced again. Alex had buried his head in a fashion magazine. I took out an erotic novel and flipped through a few pages.

I was way too tired to keep my eyes wide open for the rest of the trip. I requested for an eye mask from one of the attendants and it was delivered immediately. I snuggled up under the blanket provided earlier and put on my headphones, then I went into my Dreamland.
