Chapter 3: Squire Rose
The knight smiled, and he extended his hand to the girl. "Then let us begin, squire. The first step on your journey to knighthood is to renounce your old life and swear yourself to the code of chivalry. Do you swear to be true to your word, to be just and honorable, and to protect the weak and innocent?" Rose took the knight's hand and looked him in the eye.
"I swear it, on my honor as a knight-to-be." The knight nodded and released her hand. "Then you are no longer Rose, the peasant girl.
"From this day forth, you are Squire Rose, apprentice to Sir Baldwin of the Order of the Silver Shield. Your training begins now."
The squire knelt before her mentor and bowed her head.
"I am ready, Sir Baldwin. I will train hard and do my best to become a true knight, worthy of the honor and responsibilities that it entails."
The knight placed a hand on her shoulder. "Rise, Squire Rose. Your journey begins."
The squire rose to her feet, a new determination shining in her eyes. The training had begun, and she would not rest until she had achieved her goal.
