Chapter 9 - SAW 9 - Paradia(2)

(chirp chirp chirp)

Waking up to the sounds of bird, it seems like its early in the morning as the sun hasn't shown up yet.

I then got up and did my usual exercise routine, which is sit up, push up, etc.

As I sweated a lot, I left the room looking for a shower.

While walking around, I found the grandpa is already up as well. He's sitting in the dining room reading a letter from someone when he noticed me and smiled slightly.

"You're early..."

"Ah.. yes I did a little exercise"

"Yeah young people like you definitely should. What're you looking for?"

"I just want to wash myself off..."

"Ohh go outside then walk to behind the house. You'll find a well and a closed space to wash yourself"

"Alright"

I then went outside the door and looked around. There's no one around probably because the sun's not out yet.

I walked around the house to find a stone well and a space covered by wood.

I then used the well to get some water before going inside. There, I found a soap that smells like lime and uses it to wash myself off.

After cleaning myself, I realised that I didn't have anything to wipe myself with.

Just as I have no idea what to do, someone suddenly throw a towel from outside as there's nothing covering from the top.

"You didn't bring a towel did you"

I heard the grandpa's voice coming from outside.

"Ah yes... thank you"

"No worries, here's a new cloth that you can wear. Also brush your teeth with this"

He then started throwing bunch of stuff at me that I barely able to catch.

Hearing the sounds of footstep going away, I continued to clean myself before going back inside the house.

The grandma is as already up as well and is preparing breakfast it seems.

I then greeted her

"Good morning grandma"

"Ohh morning, you're up early"

"Ah yes, I just washed myself off. Where can I wash my clothes by the way?"

"Oh you can do it on the river. My husband will bring you there later"

"Thank you"

Walking back to my room, I see Kim Jaesuk sitting inside waiting which surprise me.

"You're back..."

"What are you doing here?"

"I was about to ask you about today"

"Go wash yourself off first. Ask grandpa downstairs for some cloth and necessities, bring Adrian as well"

"You're right. I'll see you later then"

He then walked out.

After waiting for some time, they come back and we started going downstair together to have breakfast together.

"You guys feeling fresh now?"

The grandpa asked.

"Yes, we can start helping out today"

Kim Jaesuk answered.

"Good, finish your breakfast and follow me outside"

Finishing our breakfast, we followed grandpa outside. He first brought us around the village and introduced us to other people.

They seem friendly and the relationship between the villagers looks very nice as they can be seen joking around each other.

There are a market, a blacksmith, a clothing store, and there are also an inn.

When we're walking, I asked grandpa

"Grandpa, how can I check the magic power thing?"

"Oh, I forgot to mention that. It very easy actually, just say the word 'status window' in your head, and it will shows your basic status. You can show it to other people by simply thinking about it"

"Whoaa- what the"

I then tried to check my status by doing exactly as grandpa said, and a pop up window suddenly appeared in front of me.

- STATUS WINDOW -

Name : Alex Stone

Age : 21

Race : Human

Attributes

Strength : 8

Constitution :14

Dexterity :9

Intelligence : 4

Luck : 8

"Hey lets compare ours"

I said to the other two. Then suddenly another pop up windows shows up in front of me.

- STATUS WINDOW -

Name : Kim Jaesuk

Age : 22

Race : Human

Attributes

Strength : 14

Constitution : 14

Dexterity : 6

Intelligence : 14

Luck : 5

- STATUS WINDOW -

Name : Adrian Mcleay

Age : 19

Race : Human

Attributes

Strength : 5

Constitution : 7

Dexterity : 5

Intelligence : 17

Luck : 5

"What...."

"Whoa... seems to me the stats represent how one looks like"

"Whats the status standard grandpa?"

After I asked that, the grandpa explained how the status window work.

Strength represent your power.

Constitution represent your stamina and endurance.

Dexterity represent your agility.

Intelligence represent your knowledge.

And Luck represent your luck, limited at 10.

Apparently, when babies are born their stats are set to be 1 except for luck. It increase depending on what kind of environment the babies are raised in. Let's say you're born as a swordsman's son, you'll probably be trained in strength and constitution, whereas if you're born as wizard's son then you'll be trained in intelligence.

Most people by the age of 18, they mostly would have the average stats of 20 depending on their fields of interest, whilst some nobles will probably have more. There are some cases where people are extremely talented. These kinds of people will usually have way higher attributes compared to others.

"Also, how you look like doesn't represent your attributes"

Grandpa reminded us with a mysterious smile.

"There could be a kid out there with 40 points of strength"

I shivered at that.

'I can't judge people by how they looks like it seems'

"Then can you see our attributes and tell us more about it?"

We then showed grandpa our status window. After looking at it for a while, he then said

"How're you guys raised? Your attributes looks like those 14 years old kids"

"Ha- hahaha it seems we were lazy"

I said while laughing.

"Anyway, just based on the attributes, Alex and Jaesuk can probably hold the sword, and Adrian can try learning magic. Of course, there are other profession such as blacksmith, alchemy, etc. It's up to you which one you want to learn"

"Hmm..."

While I was thinking about it, we arrived at a river.

"Okay here's your daily task that you'll need to do from now on. Basically you use the bucket over there and fill it up with water, then bring the water back to the village's dam and fill it for people to use"

Pointing at certain direction, I see six buckets lying on the ground with three wooden sticks that you can use to hang the buckets on each corner.

"That's it?"

"Yep, for Alex and Jaesuk"

"Eh? What about me?"

"I was planning on having you do the same, but looking at your attributes it seems impossible"

Grandpa said with a sigh.

"Follow me, I'll have you do another thing"

They then walked away leaving me and Kim Jaesuk there.

"Okay let's do this!"

Kim Jaesuk said cheerfully whilst I just nodded.

---

Few minutes later, after just doing two rounds trip, I feel like dying already.

"Huff... huff... it's too freaking heavy"

I said while catching my breath.

"Hey it's just two rounds and you look like you're dying already"

"We only have six difference in strength attributes, but it makes this much difference?"

"Hmm I'm not sure. I still don't properly understand how the attributes works"

Just as he said, I too don't clearly understand how the attributes works. Can we increase strength and constitution just with exercise? Can we gain intelligence with reading books? There's lots of questions remained in my head.

"Hey hold on and let's finish this quick"

"You bastard... Fine! Come and bring it!"

I said and started running to the river carrying the buckets.

With every round trip, the villagers who passed by us cheered for me.

"Ayy that's it young man, keep it up!"

"You're doing good"

After probably an hour or so, we finished doing our task. It ended with me lying on the ground next to the river catching my breath.

"Huff... huff... fuck, it's so tiring"

"You're right, it's quite tiring"

Looking at Kim Jaesuk just sitting there, I said in annoyance

"You... huff... you look too relaxed to say that it's tiring"

"Hey I'm actually quite tired okay? I'm just not showing it"

"Sure sure mate, whatever you say"

As its still noon I'm planning on taking a quick break and go back to grandpa.

"Hey"

"What?"

"What are you planning to do after this?"

I asked Kim Jaesuk.

"Hmm not sure, why you ask?"

I smiled slightly and said to him

"Let's go and ask grandpa to teach us some sword"
