Chereads / Timekeeper with Exalted Eyes / Chapter 25 - Manipulation and Retrospection

Chapter 25 - Manipulation and Retrospection

I was in my room. The first thing I noticed was the complete and utter lack of technology. No phones, no computers, not even a light bulb. The room was dark, with only a window providing some light.

The second thing I observed, was the fact that I was in a very old-fashioned looking room. The furniture was constituted of wood, with a bed in the corner. The walls were constructed of stone, and there was a door leading out.

I got up from the bed, and walked to the door. Unfastening it, I followed a long corridor. At the end of the corridor was a staircase, leading down.

I walked down the corridor, and down the staircase. At the bottom, I recognized a spacious conference room. In the center of the room, was a table, with a few people sitting around it. They all looked up as I entered.

"Who are you?" one of them asked.

"I'm Erik," I answered promptly.

I didn't recognize who these people were, but I had a feeling I was in some kind of trouble.

"Erik, we've been expecting you," another person said. This one befall a woman, and she was standing up. "Please, have a seat."

I sat down in the vacant seat, and the woman sat down as well.

"Erik, do you know why you're here?" she asked.

"No, I don't," I replied.

"You're here because you have the power to alter the future," she said. "With your power, you can save the world from destruction."

I was about to ask what she was talking about, but a man interrupted me speaking.

"Erik, the world is in a terrible state," A black-haired man who looked bother with everything explained."A war is raging, and it's only a matter of time before the planet is destroyed."

"What can I do?" I asked.

"You have the power to travel through time," the petite redhead said. "Use it you dip."

I was about to ask how the heck I was supposed to do that, but I was interrupted again.

"Erik, we don't have much time," the woman said. "The future is in your hands. Redeem the world."

And with that, the world shifted around me. Motion blur distorting my surroundings until I materialised back on my bed. It was a relief to see all the technology return to me.

I opened my InfoComm, and saw it was still the day I killed myself. I was nevertheless again back.

This power was akin to a save point in a video game. It seemed to trigger each time I slept.

Reckoning the previous times, I had 2 uses. Which fits the time from when I roused my power.

Hmm...

Resting my head down, I fell into the deep unreality of slumber.

I noted the words materialise in my head. It would be some time before I could harness this power again. I'd have to get used to all these game elements appearing in my life.

Standing up from my bed, I fled my room for the bathroom. It'd be a shame if I wasted my day moping about thinking about what 'could be' instead of actually doing things.

It felt like I was a living time machine.

The thought made me chuckle as approached the mirror, enrapturing my eye in xanthous flame. My rather unassuming reflection staring back at me.

Huh? A level? Why do I have a level? Was this part of the upgrade to my exalted sight? There seemed to be a value next to the level.

'10' it read.

I had no idea what it meant, but I figured I'd find out later. For the present, I had other things to do. Maybe I should arrange a meeting with Siska. It'd be a favourable idea for me to cool off. So much happened to me lately...

I subsequently left my room, and headed towards Siska's room. Which was odd because usually it'd be the other way around.

When I arrived, I knocked on the door.

"Who is it?" I heard Siska's voice from the other side.

"It's me, Erik," I replied.

"Erik? What are you doing here?" she asked, sounding surprised.

"Can I come in?" I asked.

"Sure," she said.

I then entered her room, a facsimile of my room in all but colour. Siska wore a set of rather colourful loungewear that undoubtedly left little to the imagination. Though she seemed to not care too much, so I didn't mention it.

Hot.

"What's up?" she asked, sitting down on her bed.

"I just wanted to talk," I said. "It's been a while since we talked."

"I guess it has," she said. "What do you want to talk about?"

"I don't know," I said. "Anything, I guess."

We then spent the next few hours talking about anything and everything. It was nice to catch up with her, and I realized how much I'd missed her.

Eventually, it started getting late, and we both decided to go to bed.

"Goodnight, Erik," she said.

"Goodnight, Siska," I replied.

Vacating her room, I made the long long journey of traversing two whole floors to return to my own.

Entering my room, feeling a blanket of fatigue takeover. Fastening my eyes shut, I soon fell numb.

I was back in the place between time and space. The girl was there again, waiting for me.

"You're back," she said.

"Yeah, I am," I replied. "What is this place?"

"As I said hitherto, this is the place between time and space," she explained, rather pouty. "I am the arbiter of said space."

"What does that signify?" I asked. Teasing her more

"It means I am the one who decides what happens in this place," she shouted, quite obviously flustered.

"Oh, I see," I said, trying to sound like I understood. I absolutely didn't, but I figured I'd figure it out later. "So, what do I do now?"

"You need to go back," she said. "The future is in your hands. Save the world. Or something? Just don't screw it up"

I had a feeling that this was going to be a lengthy journey.

"Alright, I'll go back," I said. "But first, can you tell me your name?"

"My name is Chronola," she said. "And yours is Erik."

"Nice to meet you, Chronola," I said.

"Likewise," she replied.

What a bratty young girl...

And with that, I was sent back to my own time.

I woke up the next day, and decided to go explore the city. I had a feeling that something was going to happen, and I wanted to be prepared.

I spent the day walking around the city, and talking to a diverse range of people. I learned a lot about the city, and the people who lived there.

Eventually, I made my way to the market square. It was a large square, with a lot of different stalls. I walked around, looking at the different things on offer.

I then heard a commotion from one of the stalls. It sounded like someone was being robbed.

I quickly made my way over, and saw a man being held up by two other men. They were demanding his money, and it looked like they were about to hurt him.

I didn't hesitate. I ran over, punching one of the men in the face. He fell to the ground, unconscious. The other man tried to run, but I chased after him and tackled him to the ground.

I then held him down, and waited for the guards to arrive. I didn't even need to cast anything. What a weakling.

The guards arrived a few minutes later, and took the man away. They thanked me for my help, and offered me a reward.

I declined, and made my way back to my room.

It was then that I realized something. Like a flash of inspiration filling that dark void that was my brain.

I could take over the world!

With my power, since I could go back on my mistakes. Change the future. I could rather easily make myself the ruler of the world. It was the perfect plan.

No one would be able to stop me, and I would have the power to do whatever I wanted. I would be the most powerful person in the world. Spacetime under my thumb.

The thought filled me with excitement, and I couldn't wait to get started. Though concluding my education at GCA may be a required factor.

The next day, I went to my classes as usual. But my mind was elsewhere. I was thinking about my plan, and how I was going to execute it.

Finally having a true purpose in life felt exhilarating.

The day passed by quickly, and before I knew it, it was evening. I made my way back to my room, and layed down on my bed yet again.
