Chapter 11 - Learning Everything Necessary and The Raid Season

Rick Nyster reclined in his plush chair, a triumphant smile etched on his face. The room, filled with the scent of old books and parchment, was his sanctuary. He had just finished devouring a thousand-page tome detailing the runes of the continent. Every intricate symbol, every hidden meaning was now etched into his mind, providing him with the knowledge he needed to craft an almost endless array of spells.

"Now, let's bring some of those theoretical spells to life," Rick muttered to himself, excitement bubbling within him. His eyes glowed with the fervor of discovery.

"[Alice], construct a spell model based on the parameters I've provided. It needs to create a 3D image with the precision of micrometers, scanning colors and layers in meticulous detail."

[Yes, sir. Computing started. Estimated time required: 1 hour and more.]

Rick nodded, acknowledging the complexity of the task. "Are you also developing the necessary software to process this immense amount of data?"

[Yes, sir. It's based on your visual analysis, text, and image recognition, and various other software. That's why it's taking time.]

Rick leaned back, his mind racing. He spoke aloud to the empty room, a habit he'd developed, even if he had a visitor he couldn't see.

"Now, why do I need this particular spell at this specific moment?" he mused, challenging the very fabric of his thoughts. "You have one hour to contemplate, at least until the spell finishes cooking."

.....................

[The spell design is complete. The necessary software is also complete. You may use it at any time.]

"Ah, finally completed. Marvelous," Rick exclaimed, his satisfaction evident.

"What's completed, Rick?" Ayna, his young companion, appeared seemingly out of thin air.

"Ah! Where did you spring from, Ayna?" Rick blinked, momentarily disoriented.

"I was here the whole time," she retorted.

"Ah, right, my bad."

"So, Rick, care to enlighten me on what you've been up to?" Ayna asked, curiosity gleaming in her eyes.

"Hehe. Get ready to have your mind blown," Rick grinned mischievously.

"Okay, spill the beans. Blow my mind," Ayna demanded, her enthusiasm palpable.

So, Rick began his explanation, weaving the intricacies of the spell, from its origins in his research to its capabilities.

"Rick, you're doing that eerie monologue thing again. It's like you think you're performing for an audience," Ayna remarked, her tone a mix of amusement and concern.

"Who knows? Anything is possible in this vast multiverse. But it helps me focus," Rick admitted, his eyes sparkling with excitement.

"Sure, whatever. But tone it down a bit. Even though I'm a kid to you, I know this isn't healthy," Ayna advised, her concern genuine.

"You're right; I'll try to keep it in check."

"So, what's this mind-blowing revelation?" Ayna inquired.

"Ah, right. This spell," Rick said, his voice dripping with anticipation. "It's essentially a scanning spell cranked up to eleven. After it's done, I'll be able to sense textures, colors, even microscopic details in any object. Instantaneously. Let me show you. Ayna, look into my thoughts. Also, tell me the name of a book in this room. Any pages as well if you want to be too specific."

"Alright then. 'The Brief History of Duniya Continent'."

And as she looked into my brain, I showed her the book. With every piece of detail, it was supposed to contain.

"What? How?"

She and I are inside of my memory palace/ mindscape/ place where many cool minds attack/ battles happens.

Anyway, it is a place that is generated by my mind. We can converse/ share memories and various other brain and memory related things.

"Ayna, this is what you need to build someday. Our thoughts are irregular. When you use your mind-based magic on someone, if it backfires, it will attack your unprotected mind. But if your mind is properly structured with defenses built into it. You will be better protected."

"I see. But that is not the point I want to talk about. You just got distracted in your narcissism. Tell me how did you just make the book pop up? What's it's relation to your magic?"

" Ah, lets show you. [Alice], make the library here."

[Yes sir.]

The entire library just popped up. With every detail possible. It was almost like we were in there.

Ayna is visibly surprised. "How?"

"The spell is a scanning spell dialed up to eleven. It still hasn't finished. My mana is very small compared to the amount it will need to instantly scan it up to its miniscule details. After completing, you should be able to feel the different textures in the different books, their subtle differences in color, the tiny bugs, everything. It will take quite a long time of scanning using this spell to get there, but this is it for now. I have all the information in the library, right in my head. And I get inside new libraries, I can do this again. How amazing is that. Instantaneous."

Ayna is just simply struck dumb. Her jaw has penetrated the floor. She stammers and says, "T-that's not fair."

"Life is not fair sweety, deal with it. You have to memorize all this, and I just need to Tweedle my fingers, cast a magic and get it done.

Anyway, your mind has been blown, and I am very satisfied. Leave and go back to your work."

She simply pouts and leaves.

Oh, don't look at me like that. Fine, I'll design a proper magic spell for her for this. But I'll have to be extra careful. So, I'll take some time with it.

After that, I start 'reading' the books with pictures in them and pretending to be a baby. I am an expert at this point at acting like a baby.

Nice thing to add to my CV.

'Expert at pretending to be a baby. You will not regret hiring me. Definitely. Babies are the source of all happiness in the universe. If you need a dose of that happiness, Call me. The number is: xxxxxxxxxxx.'

Hmm, should work. Added a nonsense reason. Since everything with nonsense logic sells, why not this one? I think maybe it was an ad at around 50 years earlier. Forgot about it.

Anyway, [Alice], organize the stuff please. Arrange them in matter of priority.

[Arranging it right now sir]

A few moments later.

*Insert meme*

So, give me the details about the most pressing matter right now.

{Beast Attack}

Huh! Didn't expect this to be one of those fantasy worlds where the mc has to constantly fight against magic beasts.

I mean, those fantasy worlds and novels are nice. But it must be terrible to live in. You have to be worried constantly about beast attacks.

Well, over here it doesn't seem like that. It seems to more be a seasonal thing. Let's see some more details, ah I see. So, it happens around every 10 years. Also, there is also a neat theory added here that it might be due to over population among the predators. Instead of they just simply dying out due to a lack of food, they gather together and attack the nearest human settlement.

Hmm, seems legit. The predators must be pretty powerful that they can simply clean out the prey in a forest. Or maybe the prey species are very good at escaping or hiding. After the chums and idiots among the prey species die off, the rest become untouchable.

That might also be true. Hmm, so many possibilities. I'll have to look into this later.

Hmm, so, a raid. The reason this 'border' town is placed near such a scary forest must be in order to battle and stop this phenomenon. Humans are smart. They have probably already made this into a seasonal festival where hunters from various places gather and take down these beasts and then sell their meat and other items.

Hmm, the info also agrees with me. That is exactly what happens. They actually call it 'Raid Season'. As in they get raided or attacked by the beasts during this time.

But since I am here and mc luck is well known to be legendary there will definitely be a mess-up this time.

Well, I am surer that it will happen simply because of the Destro-wolf that we saw some time ago.

It will definitely be healed before then. And since humans are quite filled with mana and are tasty, it might simply decide to join for a snack.

Shit. It is definitely going to happen now, huh.

Sigh. I'll have to do something about that thing. Maybe develop a weapon that can take it down. Cause, I won't be able to do shit using my magic.

I'll have to see some other facets of magic available to me. Sigh.

Stupid protagonist luck.

Well, I got some time before then. Might as well use this as motivation.

..................…..

Meanwhile in a reading room inside the Nyster household.

"What the heck? He started by reading about the magical runes of the continent and then he started to read all the picture books.

What?

I'm sure that he was the one casting magic back there with my daughter. The spells that were used definitely were done by him. My daughter isn't a light elemental.

Argh. Let's just keep an eye on him.

I have to go. My break's over. Time to attend the patients.

Bunch of stupid idiots. They're lucky they are not dead with those injuries."

He keeps mumbling and grumbling under his breath as he went to his clinic.
