We all sat at the table awaiting my birthday cake.
My step-mother was quiet while Rachael did everything to please me but as for Trevor? I hadn't seen him.
I looked at my wristwatch and then sighed heavily. He was really going to miss my eighteenth birthday because of some silly conversation we had.
"Happy birthday to you!!." I heard a familiar voice from the backyard.
I was about to get off my seat when I saw Trevor walk into the kitchen with his hands wrapped around the waist of the girl from last night.
She made a silent pass at me while scanning me from head to toe and then smiling friendly at me.
"Hey!, I am Silver." She was waving at me.
Trevor looked shocked by her actions and I knew just why. Yes, I did gain weight and I look completely different now. I went from being a straight line with no boobs or ass like other girls to being one of the biggest girls in school and everyone made a joke about it.
"You're really pretty and..."
"Fat?." I asked her before she could complete her statement.
I pushed the dining chair backwards and stood up, I quickly walked towards the back door.
"And curvy, you are very beautiful." Her words caught me off guard.
I tried ignoring her words while I walked towards the door, the door came open and I saw the face I was hoping to see.
"Dad!!!." I cheered.
"Happy birthday darling." He whispered.
I stepped back from his embrace and looked back at the house.
"I have a lot to tell you!!." I confessed in pour joy of not seeing my father for the longest time. "But sweetie you don't need to tell..."
"Miss Rachael? we are good. I just want to tell him about my days spent in school."
My Dad glanced at Annie with scattered eyebrows and I knew he was trying to communicate with her without speaking. He sighed and then turned back to me with a beautiful smile that I had so desperately missed.
"I brought a friend's daughter with me, she kind of got cut off from her school camp trip after some kind of bet..."
"It was a truth or dare! Mr Clement!." The most beautiful voice I have ever heard said.
"Hi!, I am Jenny." She put her hands out to me for a handshake. "I heard you loved stuffed animals as a kid so I got you a few."
"Thanks."
A few. Wow.
It wasn't new to have someone tag along with my dad for my birthday but it was new for a girl to come along and get me gifts based on what my dad had just said.
I could feel the intensity between my dad and Annie and that was nothing that involved me. I slid myself between their shoulders and bodies while I struggled to get to the backyard.
"Do you wanna go surfing?."
I nodded my head before I turned around to see the face of who was speaking.
"Great! Let's go." Jenny my dads friends daughter smiled ear to ear at my reply.
I squeezed my toes into the sand and felt the hot sand burn my skin.
"..." I cursed in my mind while squeezing my lips in agony.
We both walked in silence towards the beach when I suddenly felt a gaze on me.
"Are you good at surfing?." I asked in an attempt to break the silence.
I glanced at her and for the moment I realized how short I felt walking beside her.
"I actually hate being in the water." She paused but I let her continue without interrupting. "The atmosphere in there was so thick that you could cut it with a knife."
I giggled loudly. "I know right!."
I rolled my eyes and just like before we both went back to the silence. "What's with you and the guy?." She asked.
I looked up at her puzzled by her question, was she referring to Trevor? "Who? Trevor?." I asked.
She nodded and kept staring straight ahead.
I felt a sudden itch at the back of my neck and I instantly reached for it, my fingers gently rubbed against the surface of my skin while I thought of a better way to answer such a question.
"Trevor and I were quite a thing last summer and this summer I added weight and I am no longer attractive." I lowered my head and kicked the pile of sand in front of me like it had committed an offence.
"You're ticc! To me, you're one hell of a sexy girl."
My cheek turned crimson red and in a matter of seconds so did my entire body.
"Thanks." I bit on the corner of my lips gently while smiling.
"So you're straight huh?."
Why did she sound sad? I looked up at her once again and quickly avoided her gaze.
"Are you?." I threw back her question at her.
"Nope, I was assuming you weren't." She replied with ease though a sad tone lingered in her words.
There weren't many people at the beach front so I sat with my legs criss cross, while she stood over me.
"I can't believe I am sitting on a wet beach floor because of you!." "I am sorry!." I apologized.
I was caught off guard by her slight chuckle.
"I am not upset."
"I am not straight."
I admitted it for the first time and I hoped not to be judged or dragged to a church so a priest could pray away the devil out of me and bathe me with holy water.
