Chapter 3 - Derek Hale

Sylvia's POV

The two were talking about the day's practice as their feet get wet in the water as they cross the creek. "You know what? I really hate it when you guys drag me to stuff like this."

I groaned as I cross the creek with my heels in my hands. Not ready to get them dirty. "Who asked you to wear heels in the first place?" Stiles asked and Scott snickered.

"Oh I didnt know we would go on a search party to find a naked girl's half body as soon as we finish school! If I did, I'd have brought my hiking bag along!" I said sarcastically rolling my eyes.

"I-I don't know what it was. It was like I had all the time in the world to catch the ball. And that's not the only weird thing. I-I can hear stuff I shouldn't be able to hear. Smell things."

Scott explained his problem. "Smell things? Like what??" Stiles asked. "Like the mint mojito gum in your pocket. And Syl what perfume are you wearing God you smell so.... aromatic." He replied.

Chills run down my spine and I smacked his head. "First off I'm your sister you can't say things that sound like a perv,"

"secondly I sweat like hell during LaCrosse, if that's your way on insulting me then you've obviously succeeded!" I huffed in annoyance.

Stiles makes a face as though he thinks Scott is crazy.

"I don't even have any mint mojito--" He checks the inner breast pocket of his blazer and finds, much to his surprise he really did have the gum.

"So all this started with the bite?" I asked. "What if it's like an infection? Like, my body's flooding with adrenaline before I go into shock or something?" Scott asked.

"You know what? I actually think I've heard of this-- it's a specific kind of infection." Stiles replied. "Are you serious?" Scott asked surprised. "Yeah. Yeah, I think it's called lycanthropy." He replied and I rolled my eyes.

"Oh God! Youre unbelievable!" I exclaimed holding my head. "What's that? Is that bad?" Scott asked panicking, still not realizing that Stiles is messing with him.

"Oh, yeah, it's the worst. But only once a month." Said Stiles. "Once a month?" Scott asked. 'Yeah my period!' "Mm-hmm. On the night of the full moon. Aroooo!" Stiles fake-howls like a wolf.

Scott, annoyed, shoves him away, causing Stiles to giggle in amusement. "Hey, you're the one who heard a wolf howling!" Stiles said now seriously.

"Hey, there could be something seriously wrong with me!" Said Scott. "I know! You're a Werewolf! Rawrrr!" Stiles replied and I glared at him.

Syl do you trust me?! Scott asked. Of course! I smiled at him brightly. I'll trust you until you give me a reason not to. I replied. Awww I love you! Scott hugged me from the side.

"Okay, obviously I'm kidding. But, if you see me in shop class trying to melt all the silver I can find, it's 'cause Friday's a full moon." Stiles replied.

"No, I-I could have sworn this was it. I saw the body, the deer came running. I dropped my inhaler..."

Scott stops walking and looks around, frowning when he doesn't see anything remarkable where we were standing.

I went a bit away from them and wore my heels, I crouched down looking around for my brother's inhaler.

"Maybe the killer moved the body?" Said Stiles. "Maybe." I shrugged. "If he did, I hope he left my inhaler. Those things are, like, eighty bucks." Said Scott.

Both of them stop searching and look towards me weirdly. "What's wrong?" I stood up scowling. "What are you doing here?" Said a grumpy voice and I turned towards it.

Suddenly, a man in his early twenties with pale skin, black hair, a black leather jacket, and a scowl appears in front of us.

Me, Scott and Stiles, all of us were visibly panicking so didn't respond and the man's tone gets even gruffer.

"Huh? This is private property." He continued.

A beautiful stranger ominously appeared and gets shitty because me, Scott and Stiles are on his property.

"Uh, sorry, man, we didn't know." Stiles said nervously. I looked at the tall man infront of me and I backed away as he looked down on me.

'God he'd be about almost a whole feet taller than me.' "Yeah, we were just looking for something, but...Uh, forget it..." Said Scott pulling me behind him protectively.

The handsome stranger tosses Scott's inhaler at him before turning and heading back the way he came without a word.

"Dude, that was Derek Hale! You remember, right? He's only like a few years older than us." Said Stiles. "Remember what?" Scott asked.

"His family. They all burned to death in a fire, like, ten years ago." He replied. "No Stiles... if my memory serves right it was 6 years ago." I replied.

"I wonder what he's doing back..." Said Scott. "Come on." Said Stiles and we finally turns back to leave. I looked toward where Derek headed out and slowly follows behind them.

'I hope I never see him again. Man's scary as hell.'

BEACON HILLS ANIMAL CLINIC

Night has fallen, and another thunderstorm has just started up as Scott goes to the bathroom to check up on his wound.

And I walk to the front entrance of the animal clinic where we work as an assistant to the veterinary and turn the open sign to a closed one. I yawned feeling sleepy.

"Syl! Sylvie! SYLVIA!!" My twin yelled. "Oh my God what?!" I asked irked going to the bathroom.

He showed me his wound and I was stunned to find that it was already miraculously healed in less than one full day with no scar or any mark whatsoever to indicate he had been injured at all.

"You're kidding me right?" I asked touching his abdomen where the wound previously was. "No... its... I doono...." He was as stunned as I was.

Scott gapes at himself in the reflection of the mirror for a moment while he ponders this situation. "What do I do?" He asked and I looked shocked.

"Why are you asking me? Go feed the cats I'm seriously not in the mood to work my brain out right now." Then he went away.

The cats get extremely stirred up and start growling, meowing, and pawing at the cages. I sighed holding my head. 'Really?! What is Scott doing?'

Just then, a soaking wet Allison appears at the front door, crying and frantically pounding on the door with her fist.

Scott gets shocked of seeing her so unexpectedly, I unlock and opens the front door before he greeted her awkwardly. "Hi..."

"I didn't see it. I took my eyes off the road for, like, two seconds to change the song on my iPod, and then this dog, it just came out of nowhere!" Said Allison.

"It's all right. It's all right. It's all right. It's all right. Do you remember where it happened, so I can send Animal Control to find it?" Scott, who is listening to Allison intently, immediately tries to calm her down.

"No! I mean, yes." 'Which one is it?' I know where I hit it, but the dog is--" "Where is it?" Scott asked patiently. "It's in my car." She replied.

Then we follow Allison out into the pouring rain, where she has the dog, a white and gray collie, in the trunk of her hatchback car.

The dog instantly starts growling at us scaring me and Allison and causing us to jump backward. Scott, concerned, grabs her by the shoulders to steady her. 'I'm also here you know?'

"You okay?" Scott asked. Allison nods as she catches her breath from all the crying. Then we went inside bringing the dog along.

"I think her leg is broken. I've seen the doctor do plenty of splints. I can do it myself." Said Scott. "And give her a painkiller for now. She's just frightened." I replied.

"That makes three of us." Said Allison and I chuckled. 'You're damn right about that.' "Let me see if I have any better luck. I have another shirt in my bag...." Scott said glacing at the wet Allison.

"Oh, I don't want to trouble you." She replied. "Here." Scott grabs the shirt and hands it to her. Allison takes the shirt and goes into the other room to change.

Scott catches a glimpse of Allison's bare back after she takes her shirt off, and the dog makes a harrumphing noise and sits up to give him a look, as though she's judging him.

"What? I didn't see anything." He said to the dog. "Shut up you saw her back." I replied. "Hey I did not!" He refuses my accusation. "Anything you say." I shrugged.

"Thanks for doing this. I feel really stupid." Said Allison. "Nah.... it's fine, we all do stupid things." I replied and Scott nudged me. "What?" I whispered.

"Leave us alone." He whispered back and I gasped. "Really now?! You're choosing a girl over your own sister?!" I asked surprised.

"If I ask you to choose between me and Stiles whom would you choose?" He asked as we talked in a hushed tone. "I'll go feed the cats." I said and left them alone.

After treating the dog and talking to each other, Allison gets ready to leave as they go to the parking lot, where Scott has just walked Allison out to her car.

I leaned on the shop's doorframe looking at them from afar. Scott looks nervous as Allison opens the driver's side door.

"So, um... I was wondering... I mean... Is it really family night on Friday, or do you think maybe you'd like to go to that party with me?" Scott asked. "Family night was a total lie." Allison replied.

"So, is that a yes? You'll go?" He asked joyfully. "Definitely yes!" She replied. 'Was my brother always this smooth or did his werewolf bite really give him sudden romantic super powers?'

Scott looks so awestruck by this that it's almost as though he doesn't believe its real. He came back and hugged me.

"I asked a girl out!" He said happily. "You did!" I laughed hugging him back. "And she said yes!" He replied. "Mmhm! Good job!" I ruffled his hair and we went back home.

BEACON HILLS HIGH SCHOOL

Scott has just changed into his lacrosse gear in preparation for the final day of try-outs. "What are you doing here?" He asked and I took out some rubbing alcohol.

"Greenburg got abused by Coach and the rubbing alcohol got empty. I came to get some." I replied and he and he nods, putting his backpack into his locker.

Then suddenly, Jackson appears, also in his lacrosse gear, and angrily slams his locker door closed, startling us.

"All right, little man. How 'bout you tell me where you're getting your juice." He asked. "What?" Scott, not knowing what Jackson is talking about looks at him blankly.

"Where. Are. You. Getting. Your. Juice?" Jackson repeats what he just said in a mockingly slow tone of voice, emphasizing every syllable as though Scott is stupid.

"My sister does all the grocery shopping ask her." Scott replied earnestly, still not understanding the question and I chuckled. 'So cute. So dumb.'

Jackson who wasn't swayed by Scott's adorableness, though, slams him up against a locker.

"Get your asses to field as fast as you can, both of you. If you don't wanna get yelled by Coach that is." I advised and left the boys alone to fight or make out, whatever they wanted.

THE LACROSSE FIELD

Scott was preparing to go on the field for try-outs when Stiles frantically runs up to talk to him.

Me and Coach Finstock who had just moved to the center of the field, where he calls all of the players to circle around him.

"Let's go! Gather round! Bring it in, come on! Come on!!" He yelled.

Allison is on the sidelines, settled down in the bleachers to watch the practice for the second day in a row.

She waves at Scott, who waves back to her, though it doesn't escape Coach's notice. "Got a question, McCall?" He asked. "What?" Scott asked confused.

"You raised your hand. You have a question?" He asked. "Oh. No. I was just, uh..." Coach gives him an impatient look. "Nothing. Sorry." So Scott drops the subject.

"Okay. You know how this goes. If you don't make the cut, you're most likely sitting on the bench for the rest of the season. You make the cut? You play. Your parents are proud."

Coach shakes the face mask of the player standing in front of him to emphasize his point. "Your girlfriend loves ya! Huh? Everything else is, uh... cream cheese."

Coach Finstock smirks at Scott as he and the other players get psyched up for practice. "Now, get out there and show me whatcha got! Come on!" He said and everyone cheered.

"Though it's important, make sure you don't hurt yourself or others beyond recovery. Now go break a leg! I'll make sure to fill up your water bottles." I said.

"Yeahhhh!"

"You stole my spotlight!" Said Coach and I laughed. "Of course! I'm a girl! I love getting attention, that too from men! Good attention!" I pointed and he scoffed.

At Coach Finstock's order, the players scatter on the field, cheering and whooping to get each other focused on practice.

Practice begins with the players doing a drill in which they pass the ball back and forth between each other.

Sorry I'm too lazy to explain

Scott pumps his fists into the air, the other players run up to him and smack him affectionately on the shoulders, and Allison stands up in the stands to clap and cheer for him as he made an incredible shot.

"McCall! Get over here!" Our coach yelled. Scott, unsure of what to expect, jogs over to where we were standing and takes off his helmet

"What in God's name was that? This is a lacrosse field. What, are you trying out for the gymnastics team?" He asked. "No, Coach." Scott shakes his head

"What the hell was that?" He asked. "I don't know. I-I was just trying to make the shot." My brother replied. "Yeah, well, you made the shot. And guess what?"

Coach Finstock slaps Scott playfully on the arm. "You're startin', buddy."

Coach squeezes Scott's shoulders with his hands. "You made first line. Come on!"

"I made first line!" Said Scott. "Yes you did!" I cheered. "Whooo!! Yeah baby! I'm first line!" He cheered picking me and twirled me around and I giggled. He kissed my cheeks and went to the others.

Scott was so excited that he bounces happily, and all the players on the field and bench clap for him except for Stiles, who seems concerned by something.
