The "left" and "right" Western and Communist East, two Bloc "Cold War" that emerged after World War II, seems over. The USA and Soviet governments tried tried to overcome the other and control the world.
With the dismantling of the Soviet Union, it had been assumed that only one, the United States, existed as a Superpower. At the beginning of the Twenty First Century, other governments from the East, with rising economies emerged as potential Superpowers that moved the title from by then the current power. With India capturing the attention of the world in terms of economic and military advancements, can we say that it shall soon make it to the League of Superpowers. And can a third party stop this by making this country go to war with either Pakistan or China due to ongoing border disputes? There are others, such as South Africa and Nigeria that are considered regional or continental "powers". They have weaknesses that question them being powers.
But can there be a Superpower government? We believe that, in the current situation, it is difficult for one part to claim supremacy and control over others. The fact that a government wields economic, military or technological authority over others does not mean that it is a superpower. If they control others it does not mean they and can control all and everything. The fact that some are racing and competing against each other does not mean that the trophies they seek is real.
"Superpower" is an illusion. The fact that people regard some governments as "Superpower" giving them authority over themselves, does not mean such power exists in reality. "Superpower" is a state and stance of mind.
We would have to consider in what ways an entity is a superpower. To be a superpower, you would have to have supremacy and control in all fields of life, all sectors. Yet some people have high technology but do not consider them self superpowers.
To be superpower, one would have to have the highest in military equipment, capability, training and skills , tact, ability and morale. But we know that being greatly equiped does not necessarily make that army the most effective. A good example being that of the Russian Army's current operation in Ukraine.
Watch out for chapter two.....
