Chapter 5 - Chapter 5 - A More Secure Base

Eight undead individuals came out of the strange tiled room. These eight were covered in tattered muddy-gray cloths. Not robes, but possibly the remnants of robes. Upon their faces are porcelain masks that seemed to be melted into the skin.

Each of these eight undeads' masks represented something different. The mask representing the sin of wrath was red and had the expression of rage. The mask representing greed had a inhumanly wide smile and teeth painted gold but no eyes. The mask representing pride was of a neutral expression with eyes looking down on everything. The mask representing sloth was shaped like a fat man's face with deep baggy eyes. The mask representing envy was completely blank and smooth. The mask representing gluttony was shaped like a starving man with a mouth like a lamprey. The mask representing lust was shaped like the face of a woman and looked like she put on a lot of makeup. The last mask represented the lost sin of melancholy which was a blank face except for seven crying eyes representing the other sins.

Everyone but the undead had the same thought "F*ck."

All of Squad 19 got into immediate combat ready stances and got their weak guns pointed at the undead. And waited for Fyre's command which was a rather quick "Fire at will!" Which they did. The bullets pierced through the cloth but bounced off the actual undeads' skin and the bullets seemed to almost melt when they collided with the strange masks.

Seeing this several thoughts ran through the minds of Squad 19. Most of which were "Great, the masks are anomalous."

"Weren't these things just strong and intelligent?! Butter-boy, how the hell did you deal with that little one when their skin is like f*cking steel?" yelped out Patty-Cake.

Butter-boy did not answer as he continued to fire at the eight undead when he noticed someone hiding behind them. They were robed in gray, torn cloths clumped together to form a robe-like article of clothing. Butter-boy pointed this person out to Patty-Cake as he tried to find a good angle to shoot the individual. Patty-Cake also couldn't find a good angle to shoot at and so he decided to use something he bought off of a drunk Nu-7 operative.

He grabbed it from a compartment in his Beta-7 utility belt, primed it and then chucked it at the robed man while saying "Everyone who isn't an enemy, f*cking duck!"

Fyre nearly had an angery aneurism when she noticed what Patty-Cake had thrown was a grenade... in an enclosed space. But she decided to duck for cover and then if they survive, to reprimand him.

BOOM!

The entire building shook, walls went missing and the robed man now looked like some grade A spaghetti sauce with cooked hamburger in it. And interestingly enough, the police station remained standing.

Once Squad 19 got out of their hiding places, they noticed that the eight undead became stationary. Standing there, without moving. Like statues, or like machines without someone to give them orders.

The scientists were discussing what has just happened when Jared said to Squad 19 "Squad 19, that strange tile room is actually a secret entrance into the tunnel network underneath the town. The police station has been compromised. You are to head to the old town hall and wait for reinforcements. Be alert, there is a high chance that more hostiles will appear."

"Jared, are there any orders on what to do with the undead Power Scouts ((P*wer R*ngers))?" asked Patty-Cake.

"One of the reinforcements is Squad 2 of Beta-7. They will capture the eig-" Before Jared could finish his sentence Brooks, Patty-Cake, and Happee grumble out noises of annoyance.

Jared sighed since he expected this reaction. Squad 2 is one of the best squads of Beta-7 and unlike Squad 1, they like to rub it in the faces of their "lessers".

Butter-boy could care less about Squad 2. They can be assholes, but they're much more professional than Squad 19 and him so there shouldn't be any problems.

Fyre looked at her squad and said "Squad 19, enter Formation 11-7. Avoid the eight hostiles."

Squad 19 carefully left the police station and had Jared help them avoid street cameras and use back alleys,

They eventually reached a rather old looking building with a sign that said "Old Town Museum". It would appear that the town turned their original town hall into a museum of the town's history.

By the time Squad 19 reached the museum it was quite close to sunset. The shadows that were casted by the museum made it feel ominous and unsafe.

"Tea bo- I mean, Jared. Are you sure this place is the safest option?" asked Patty-Cake.

Jared's calming voice replied "Yes. There are no tunnels connecting to it. And all the buildings near it can easily be used to defend it. Once all the squads reach here, it will be like a small fortress."

With that answer, Squad 19 began to set up base within the museum. Once they entered the building they noticed the museum was quite interesting.

It had all sorts of displays on the town's history and all sorts of interesting items. While setting up, Squad 19 noticed that the clothing items on displayed were pilgrim clothing but something was off. There was a strange symbol embroidered onto it.

The symbol looked like an ouroboros with many eyes. Once they noticed the symbol, Squad 19 also noticed that many of the items on display had that symbol. It was most evident on a leather book on display towards the center of the museum.

Jared soon said "Squad 19, check that book out."

Fyre walked towards the display case for the book and opened up the glass case. And took out the book. On the bottom of it was a price tag and the words "Made In China" engraved on it.

The scientists sighed in disappointment since the book was just a replica. If it was real, they could quickly learn about the town besides just official records. But alas, the book was just a showpiece.

A couple minutes later, Squad 19 could hear noise outside and before they could get ready for combat, Jared said "The other squads from various MTFs are here."

Soon several squads walk through the door. A squad from MTF Omega-45, a squad from Dseda-8, and four squads from Beta-7. The squads from Beta-7 were Squad 2, Squad 11, Squad 13 and Squad 5.

Omega-45 was a MTF that was trained to use unique anomalous tools created with the help of a book that gave instructions on making anomalous tools, weapons, and armors. They were often unofficially called the "Street Samurai."

While Dseda-8 was known for being a combat task-force meant to hit enemy bases hard and fast. Unusually though, they only sent one squad. Unofficially they were called "Desperta Ferro".

Soon Jared's voice spoke in the ears of Squad 19 saying "Squad 2 of Beta-7 is going to be the leading squad in this mission."

Which brought a feeling of dread onto Squad 19 as Squad 2 looked at them like they were meat shields.
