Chapter 22 - Meet the king

Finn turned around with the intent to leave Juan to herself. In his mind, he was done toying with her. He had more interesting things on his mind now like the notification the system displayed.

Over time, he discovered that the system worked with his mind. He could control to some certain degree what appeared in his line of vision. This discovery was made before his last growth spurt. There was not much he could do with the system at that time other than affirming and rejecting options that appeared to him. But now things had changed.

He took the liberty of the silence and went on to open the notification but barely had a chance to look at what it fully entailed as his mother, Agatha walked into the room.

His attention had shifted split second on seeing her. Him and his mother both stared at each other for minutes. The silence was quite the awkward one as both parties observed the other was somewhat scanning them.

Finn observed that she looked roughened up quite a bit. Just as Juan did, she always kept her hair intact. But Finn observed some strands misplaced. Her vibrant yellow eyes seemed duller than usual. He wasn't particularly concerned but felt something was off about her.

"Mother..."Finn said.

Agatha's eyes sort of opened at that moment. It was the first time she had heard Finn say words that could actually be understood. More so, Finn looked different from how he looked some hours ago when she left him with Juan. It would have been strange in a human setting to go away and then return to see your child all grown up in matter of hours. But in her case, she wasn't all too shocked. She was rather confused.

From looking like a two year old then to now that he looked like an eight year old, his facial features were even more pronounced than they were initially. His body was pale white but he had regained his fleshy body back not the near bone structure he had hours ago.

"He is different. A special one indeed, "Agatha thought to herself.

"We have to talk, "Agatha said in a calm way. She walked up to Finn who although was taller but right now, he looked considerably small while standing near her. This was because Agatha was tall herself and Finn was still in the body of an eight year old.

She grabbed onto his shoulders and Finn could feel her cold touch immediately. It made him feel uncomfortable and he didn't hide this as he shrugged her hand off. Agatha frowned at this for a second but looked at from another angle later on that he probably needed time adjusting to his reshaped body. She had experienced her own fair share of a growth spurt and knew what it was like.

"Then talk, mother" Finn said with an emotionless face. Being up close, Agatha took the liberty of observing his eyes closely and it marvelled her greatly. It made her begin to spiral down into numerous thoughts but she regained herself and was back on track.

"You see, it hasn't been long that you were born. Granted you grew faster than expected, there are several things you ought to know but don't. I don't know if you still remember since part of the common side effects of a growth spurt is provisional loss of memory,"Agatha paused for and continued to search through Finn's eyes for a while. Then she looked at Juan who seemed to have been lost in her own world. Things weren't looking too bright in the room and it wasn't just the poor lighting, she felt.

The energy in the room felt considerably low that she was having second thoughts on whether she would continue with what she was going to say.

"There are certain rules around here. Rules that govern how we live as vampires. What you did today broke one of those rules, Finn"Agatha said.

"So where are you headed?"Finn asked.

"There are consequences for breaking rules. But a crime like yours has more weight on it. You took the life of one of your own. But you didn't stop there, you...you.."Agatha was struggling with the words so Finn stepped in to complete it

"Ate her. I...ate her"Finn said not blinking once.

"So you remember?"Agatha asked.

"Yes, I do remember. I'm wondering just where you are going with this,"Finn said in a bid to get his mother back on track.

"Why is he so calm about this. surely he should know he has done wrong. Granted he is still a spawn, a big spawn. But his sense of right and wrong along with other things are far developed by now. He can even speak!"Agatha thought in that slight break there was before she continued saying...

"Tomorrow, you will be taken away. The King demands that you be brought to him,"Agatha said with a still voice. Right then, Juan had snapped out of her trance and turned her head to look at her mother. Their eyes met and even when no words were uttered, one could tell just from their gaze that a lot had been said.

Agatha couldn't stand the whole situation again so she turned around and left Finn who stood in the same position motionless.

Finn turned around to see Juan doing the unspeakable. He had seen her do quite absurd things in such a short time. But the one thing he never thought he would see was his vampire sister crying.

-Interesting. I never conceived a scenario where you would leave that high place and come down to the level of mere humans as you "Higher beings" see them to be. I guess there isn't much of a difference between the two race after all. The scene of you shedding mortal tears I find so satisfying and comforting even when I have a lingering issue at hand that I should be concerned about. Still, those tears I never want to seize- Finn thought.

"How bad can a visit to the king be?"Finn asked ignorantly. He appeared all relaxed which caused Juan to get excited.

"You fool!. I know you know how bad this is. But acting like it doesn't bother you is next to stupidity!!!"Juan flared up.

"I am not acting. If you must know, I am the least worried in this situation. What could possibly go wrong?"Finn asked with a smirk on his face as he sat on his bed.

"The short time we have spent together opened my eyes to a lot of things. I began to acknowledge that you were special. I found how you thought about things to be quite unique. Your perspective about life is odd and simply too big for someone your age. But right now, I'm more than convinced that you not only have a defect that makes you seek flesh but..." Juan paused for a bit as she stared intensely into Finn's eye.

"...The thing that lies inside your head is defective as well. Your ignorance about the entire situation is beyond me. This is a matter of your life on the line. You are not going to meet the king for a mood lifting conversation. You are going to be Judged, Finn" Juan said.

"So you are saying?..."Finn asked again like he wasn't quite following.

"You might be no more by this time tomorrow,"

-Having me killed for taking another life. Hmm, such is how mild thinking beings perceive justice. Two lives lost in pursuit of resolving a crime that even nature perpetuates. The concept of justice itself has been proven to be a fallacy. The people that hurt me numerous times were never punished nor did anyone seek JUSTICE on my behalf. Justice is something I must erase as well -Finn slid into his thoughts for a moment.

"Is there a way out?"Finn went on to ask.

"Cases of vampires killing themselves are rare. Your case if I'm not mistaking is even the rarest. But there is a way to lessen the punishment for the offence. Although, looking at you now, I doubt that you'd be capable, "Juan said as tears ran down her eyes. She seemed to be crying but no sounds were made and her face remained numb. The only thing was that tears were rolling down her cheeks.

"Let me know, "Finn pushed.

After hearing all Juan had to say, Finn chuckled for a bit, got into a sleeping position on his bed and closed his eyes.

"I can't believe after all I have said, he still finds peace to sleep. Why does he require this much sleep to begin with?"Juan thought to herself while sitting on her wooden chair and watching Finn motionless on his bed.

Finn was still awake but had his eyes closed as he was deep in thoughts.

-This body of mine consistently requires sleep. There has to be a way to counteract the effects of having too much blood or too much flesh. I think my body is trying to recover the hidden lost energy it takes to run this body. After all from the doll's reaction and that of my mother, even my growth is exceptional.

For one, I'll give it to the doll over there. She is right, I am not normal. But that isn't news to me. I haven't been normal since my first day. And even now, things are getting less normal- Finn thought with a smirk appearing on his face.
