Chapter 39 - Outsiders Pack

Somewhere outside the mountain known to be the vampire nest, in a cleared-out area with many cottages in view, a lesson was going on.

"The unimind is a skill that joins every wolf belonging to a pack together. This skill allows us to instinctively know the next move of our pack member before its been made. This way, there isn't a need to yell out orders as our fine alpha Harland did some time ago, "Gregor, the instructor for the young werewolves said with a bit of a chuckle there.

They were currently in a cottage with a large amount of space that occupied all twenty-five werewolves.

The young ones sat down on the sandy floor and listened to their instructor teach them.

"Can I ask a question big G?" A little girl who looked to be around five said. This of course wasn't her real age as she most probably was younger than five. A werewolf's growth was just as rapid as a vampire. And much like vampires, they can control their ageing to a fine degree. Although their control over their ageing wasn't as good as a vampire's.

"Go on Emmie, "Gregor said. Being a large man in his human form, the kids were fond of him so much that they gave him the nickname "Big G".

"Can you tell us the story of the outsider pack?"Emmie said with giggles ending her statement. They all looked like harmless kids in their own right but had the power to rip a grown man apart.

"The outsider pack is what you call them and everyone else but me. What do I call them? Rogues? scoundrels? Disloyal wolves they all are!!"

"See what you did? You know how mad he gets when he talks about things he is really passionate about, "Harland scolded Emmie.

"He is so fun when he gets this way!!"Emmie replied with joyous eyes insisting she was enjoying every bit of what was happening.

"The Outsiders pack got their name simply because of their deeds. Long ago, there were eight packs known to the werewolf kingdom.

Each pack had a leader known as the alpha. But the alphas were only in control of their pack members and were not to engage with another pack. Yet even with this, all werewolves shared a common bond so, at the end of the day, the trust in one another remained. The unimind was strong as ever.

This was so for a long time until the prime alpha was killed. His position became vacant and needed to be filled by someone else.

Normally, a successor was meant to be picked from the prime alpha's pack. But this was where the problem began.

Seeing that the prime alpha was gone, the prime alpha's pack became a target.

Every pack was after the pack the prime alpha had left behind. They did this because they knew the successor had to be chosen from this pack.

But a particular alpha had managed to outwit them all and instead of absorbing the pack into his own, he killed them all.

It had never been heard before that a werewolf murdered another. Despite they all had the same motives as the alpha who had committed this crime, they knew he and his pack needed to be dealt with. So the seven packs as we know them today united against the eighth pack. But in the heat of the moment, some of them had escaped.

Until this day, the story is told to young ones like you about the importance of loyalty not just to the pack you were born into but to your race. The proud and mighty werewolf race"

Gregor said.

"So does anyone have an idea if the outsiders still exist?"Solka, the ebony-skinned werewolf asked.

"The Alpha and some of its prominent members were said to have been killed sometime later. Constant raids were carried in the new settlement the pack took camp in to ensure they were punished for their actions and it is said that they were all wiped out eventually" Gregor said.

"I have another question, "Emmie announced.

"Yes Emmie, let us know what you have to ask" Gregor responded with a pat on her head. The rest of his students were only interested in hearing more stories as they had their eyes glued to him almost like they were in a trance.

This was part of the reasons he had opted for this role. Originally, given his size and physical shape, he was fit to be on the squad that went out for training. But oddly, no one in the seven packs could deny his fascination with little werewolves.

"Tell us about our arch-rivals, "Emmie said.

"You mean the vampires?" some other werewolf kid said. They were even more delighted than they were initially when this topic was brought up.

"Say, enough of these stories for one day. How about, if you manage to hunt and tackle me down successfully, I'll show the puny teeth of one of those bloodsuckers?"Gregor proposed.

"You mean that?"Harland asked. Without waiting, all the kids had pounced on Gregor at once.

Meanwhile, further deep into the jungle, far from the werewolf settlement, in an underground cave, something of similar nature was happening.

Two human-like figures appeared out of the dark of the cave and were walking silently somewhere.

One of them walking was a woman. She wore on her back a scabbard containing a sword that vibrated at intervals.

The woman appeared to be older than the man who accompanied her. The man in question wore a dark cloak covering his face and a nun-like gown sweeping across the floor. The two passed through several stone walls with rigid exteriors and tiny pathways that forced them to walk with one at the front and the other behind.

After going through the tight passageway, the woman and man stopped as they reached their destination.

In front of them were fire touches lit around a circle and there were six figures standing together in this circle with one lone figure at the edge of the circle.

"How is she doing today?" the woman asked.

"She is about to be fed. I am afraid at this rate, we will soon run out of supply, "the man said.

"Good, when that happens, you sort it out. Understood?" the woman asked. With this answer, there was no further exchange from the two as they turned their attention to the lit circle.

The six figures standing together were kids all around the same age. But they weren't normal kids as in the next second, they all transformed into full wolves appearing on all fours.

As for the lone figure at the edge of the circle, two glowing eyes could be seen. The left eye was golden and on the right eye, the colour appeared to be blue.

With the cave lit up by the fire torches, a fair amount of light allowed for the figures to be seen clearly. But just in the blink of an eye, the figure with the two separate coloured eyes had moved from the spot, the fire touches went off and the next thing was bone-chilling howls bouncing off the cave walls.

And when it all settled down, the figure with the double-coloured eyes appeared in front of the much older woman with a sword on her back and stood there doing nothing.

As for the six werewolves, they had all been killed within seconds. But something stuck out about all of them. Their chests appeared to have had a hole in them and on closer inspection, it appeared that all six of their hearts were mixing.

"Calm young one. I see you seek more. Don't worry, it's only a matter of time and then you can feed all you want. And as for me, all they have will then be mine!"
