Finn woke up only this time he was in a place he recognised. This was the dark, rough-edged walled room he knew. The first place he had been in when he entered this vampire family.
It had only been a month but even then it felt like a long time had passed. In such a short period yet it felt like a whirlwind of events had occurred. And the moment he thought of a whirlwind, his mind wandered off to his sister, Juan.
"Where is she?"Finn asked. He got up from a much larger bed than the one he was born in. And that's when it occurred to him that his small size was gone. He was at least looking like an eight-year-old now. How awkward he thought. But searching for Juan was something he didn't have to do as she walked right into the dark room the next minute. She went to her favourite spot where a chair made of wood was placed down and she sat on it.
Her gaze was fixed in the direction Finn's baby bed was once kept. She was the one who would watch over him for the weeks that had gone he remembered. He didn't really have an idea of what occupations vampires had that kept them busy but he knew for one that his mother was quite the busy one. His father, on the other hand, he had never seen and at that point didn't want to see.
Seeing him would only make things worst for him as it would mean another potential suspect or victim of his.
"Are you okay?"Juan asked.
"Yes, I am fine. Are you okay?" Finn asked back. Juan turned around to face him with a raised eyebrow. It hadn't been long since she discovered he could talk but even in that short period, she had learnt a little about her little brother and one of her grand takeaways was that he DIDN'T CARE.
Finn simply had no regard for anything other than himself. He saw the world to be just him alone in it and the rest of the people in it to be insignificant. Now looking at the same person she had drawn that conclusion on, he seemed different. And it wasn't just the long black and curly hair or the fact that they were nearly equal in height.
It felt like there was a shift in personality as a whole. Perhaps all that happened earlier then with the bleeding and near death changed him. Perhaps it changed them both.
"I notice you weren't in when I woke up. Did you bring me back in? Are the werewolves gone and where is mother?"Finn fired a barrage of questions.
Juan looked away for a couple of minutes before standing up to look him in the eye. A lot of things had changed but his unique eye colour remained.
"How about I ask the questions? What are you, Finn?" Juan asked with intensity in her eyes
"Your brother, "Finn answered with a slight smirk and attempted to turn around to head back to his bed but got grabbed by a hand. A tight gripping hand forced him to turn around and in doing so, he saw Juan's eyes were now red.
"Look, I didn't want to do this. But ever since your arrival, I have done certain things that I not only did not want to do but never imagined I will do. So I'm going to ask you one more time, what are you, Finn?" Juan threatened with blood-red eyes.
"I don't know and you are beginning to make me feel endangered. That's not a feeling I like too much, "Finn said.
"There are a lot of things vampires can do that you don't even have the slightest clue of. Don't make me do things to you that i would regret," Juan said again while tightening her grip on Finn's arm.
"Things like what?... Like how you killed that spawn and fed to me? Things like that? ...Do you regret doing that?... I could hear everything you said. You promised you wouldn't let me die and that you would save me, you did just that. Now, why do I get the feeling that you'd rather have satisfied yourself image than save your little brother? Juan, am I wrong about these feelings? Make me feel wrong, Juan, "Finn replied.
Juan's hand began to shake tremendously. She staggered back letting go of Finn's hand and falling to her wooden chair. An awkward silence prevailed for a while before a word was said again. Finn was still standing even as he was close to his bed.
"It's not about how I feel but what you and I have done, "Juan said while shaking her head.
"You and I?" Finn asked. This question left a frown on Juan's face. Her heart was starting to thump loud and this was something that couldn't be hidden from Finn as on hearing it, he smiled to himself.
-Just as I expected. They may claim to be hard as stone. Their skin may be thicker, and their bones may be stronger, but anything with a highly developed mind as that of a human definitely shares certain weaknesses with humans. There's no armour strong enough to shield one from emotional damage. I have searched all over and now I know, her mind is her weakness. Something to exploit- Finn thought inwardly.
"You were dying. I had to save you. I had to do something or else your blood would be on my hands!"Juan said. It almost looked like she was crying at the moment but Finn didn't see any of such. She was just simply in a high emotional state.
"You had other choices. You picked what you believed to be best. I wasn't the one who ripped that spawn's body in half!!! "Finn stated. Juan remained silent which gave room for Finn to add a few words.
"Now I'm just wondering. I know I didn't finish him off completely so where are his remaining parts?"Finn asked shamelessly with a smile. Juan could only stare up and look at him wondering in her mind what he was truly made of.
-Is he so heartless that in the middle of everything all he can think about is feeding?- Juan thought.
"I disposed of the remains. It had to be done so as not to leave any evidence behind, "She replied and halfway through this statement that she made, she felt a part of her standing aside and looking at herself in shock.
-So I was not wrong after all. She is a valuable asset, I'm glad I did my calculations right- Finn thought.
"So what happens if they come looking for him? I mean, did anyone see you with him?" Finn asked again. At this point, he was simply turning all stones to be on the safe side. It was better to have all the information and be ready than remain calm and get caught off guard.
"His mother was the one who gave him to me...to protect, "Juan said.
-Intriguing. So she is colder than I even expected. More reason I am apprehensive around her. So unpredictable she turns out to be each time. Yet, she is wide open to being exploited. Her guards being up all the time is like a sign placed on her forehead that says she can be broken. Just look at her now. Her strong will and drive are her Achilles heel- Finn thought.
"So what did you report back to the mother?"Finn asked in an excited tone. Even Juan had picked up that he seemed to be enjoying every moment of the sad and long conversation that had quickly turned into an interview of some sort.
"A wolf had snuck through the defences. It attacked us, took her spawn away and left me nearly dead," Juan said the last part while also raising a part of her body. It was the arm she had sliced off earlier. Now only her elbow to her shoulder remained of her left hand.
"I must say I am impressed with your work. You've managed to cover everything up in such a short time!" Finn said with a slight chuckle.
"That's the problem. I fear this would lead to several more uncontrollable events, "Juan thought to herself.
"Your actions may have led to unforeseen outcomes and consequences that are yet to be seen. But you not only helped me stay alive, but you also did more than just that. Oh sister, you did too much...kikkikahahahaa" Finn laughed inwardly while looking at the notification that appeared in his line of vision.
