Chapter 10 - Nephilim or cambion.

"She's a Cambion… Cupidum is a fallen. And she will die if she gets marked."

"Marked? What do you mean, marked?" Tolu asked quickly, "what's a Cambion?" She approached Ifárànmī.

"A child of a demon," he said, shaky low, "Cupidum is the Latin word for cupid; he was one of the cherubim, he is her father—"

"Stop! Enough!" she yelled and stumbled back as tears filled her eyes, "de…demon…demon child?" she stammered, "Eniola…?" tears rolled down her eyes and she squeeze her chest as she gasps in disbelief.

"Once a predator demon marks her, that means the cloak has worn off."

"What cloak?" Ifadahunsi asked

Ifárànmī looked at him with a smirk on his wrinkled face, "you still have no idea, do you? Cupid's cloak has kept her alive… the evil can't find her if she's cloaked."

Niola got off the kitchen floor feeling light-headed, she turned the faucet and ducked her head to drink from the tap in the sink, she could hear her heart pounding. She took a deep breath and let it out slowly, repeating it a few times, and after she could regain her stance, she went to get dressed. After a few minutes, she came out with a white shirt and jeans.

"Here! You're driving," Danielle tossed her the car key and they both stepped outside.

As Niola looked across the street with an uncanny sense of direction, she saw weird people standing around, looking at her in a very unusual way.

"Danielle, look at those guys," Niola held her hand to get her attention. "They look very very weird, right?"

"That bread seller?…oh, those boys, yeah that's weird, why will they be smoking pot this early morning … Lagos boys eh," Danielle said nonchalantly.

Niola shot her a questioning look. What the hell is she saying; she thought. Whatever Danielle was talking about is quite different, she turn to look back across the street and all she saw was the bread seller and the boys smoking around the corner. She grimaced and yet there was nothing weird on the street, she opened the car door and she was almost frightened to death; she could swear she saw someone in the car.

Danielle opened the other door to get in the car and she caught the slightly grim expression on Niola's face, she could tell her hands were a bit shaky as she placed them on the steering wheel, "hey," she placed her hand on hers, "are you okay?"

Niola felt her warm hand curl around hers and she felt chill, she swallowed and met her gaze, "could you drive?" she said trying to sound as normal as she could, "I just feel a bit dizzy."

"Sure! Absolutely," she said with an acceptant sneer and got down from the car to switch places.

"Are you sure you are fine?" Danielle asked as she kept the key in the ignition.

"Yes, I'm fine" she simpered, and her phone buzzed, then rang in upbeat music; it was her mother, "Hello mom!" she said with the phone in her ear looking out the window as Danielle pulled out to the road.

"Eniola..ca… can you hear me?

"Sure, loud and clear, hope you are ok?—"

"Where are you? Are you home?" Her mother asked quickly before she could even ask about her.

" Oh... um nope, I just left home, I'm in the car with Danielle… Chiamaka's cousin." She said glancing at Danielle who glanced back at her too.

"Ok, just listen carefully, don't say any word, I don't want you to feel uncomfortable or awkward in front of whoever is there with you."

"Ok ma," Niola sat up attentively.

"I met someone here, and he told me someone is trying to mark you… Eniola you have to be careful, very careful. Don't let anyone try to put anything on your skin, okay?"

"Um, what do you mean—"

"love you, I'll call you back later. I gotta go." Before she could say anything else, she hung up.

She stared at the bandage on her arm and swallowed, whatever mark she was talking about, has already happened, there was an obvious scar on her arm already that she got from her dream, how stupid it sounds. Panic crawled up her chest and she felt hot, she adjusted the neck of her shirt as she was not comfortable with the feeling she was having at the moment. Fear. She had to tell her mother about the mark.

"Can you turn up the AC?" she said finally.

"sure." Danielle smiled humming the pop music playing from the car radio.

Niola glanced at her arm again and again, and all she wants right now, was to make all of this go away somehow and her normal life back, she glanced at Danielle who was concentrating on the road and singing along with the music that played, then she began to wonder what was going on at Oke-osa, what did her mom see or hear about her.

Chiamaka was taking a bath when she heard the doorbell, she had ordered pizza earlier. She got out of the bath and put on a bathrobe.

"I'm Coming!" She yelled as the bell rang again, she rushed to answer the door.

"Pizza delivery for—"

"Yeah, you're at the right address," She gave a warm smile and paid for the Pizza, "thanks," she said closing the door behind her and placing the pizza on the coffee table. She went up the flight upstairs and head for the room back to the bathroom. "Oh shit."

The water was overflowing, she never turned on the faucet, and yet the tap was on and water was overflowing out of the jacuzzi, she turned off the tap and sighed, she looked around for a mop and she suddenly heard the TV in the room  static, "what the fuck!" She muttered and head back inside the room; she never turned on the television either, what's with the automatic power on? She thought as she picked up the remote and turned it back off.

*Phew.. she turned back to the bathroom room and saw a weirdly dark spooky person in the bathroom. "What the—"

Before she could move an inch, the person ran through her and there was this weird force that knocked her off her feet and she hit the wall hard and fell to the ground.

Danielle and Niola had small talks as they head towards the estate.

"Are you kidding me?" Danielle giggled, "we were born on the same day, except I was born in London and she was here… our families are so, so close, her dad is my dad's brother… and I lived with them when I came to Nigeria at twelve. My parents wanted me to learn the… African culture…"

"How was Chiamaka like, when she was a kid?" Niola asked With so much interest, Danielle glanced at her and smiled.

"She was fat.." Niola chuckled, "and… very, very troublesome chinch… and I was a sassy kid. We made a bad combo." They both laughed.

"Sassy, eh," Niola teased

Soon they got to Danielle's house and pulled out front.

"Chi-Chi!" Danielle yelled as they walked into the house. "mm… pizza, guess she thought of me after all."

"where is she?" Niola asked looking around.

"Probably upstairs," she replied, heading up the stairs.

Niola sat on the couch with a sigh and called her Mom, the line rang a couple of times, and no answer. She glanced at her arm and sighed again, then her mom called back.

While Niola was talking on the phone with her mom, Danielle searched upstairs and found Chiamaka on the bathroom floor.

"Hey!" Danielle rushed to her, "oh my God, are you ok? What the hell happened?"

Chiamaka grunts as she sat up, "ow! My head, I guess I left the tap running ….the jacuzzi was overflowing….I …um wanted to get a mop, so I slipped.. ow! My back." Danielle chuckled as she explained groggily.

"What's funny?" Chiamaka playfully punched her as she helped her up.

"come on," Danielle said holding her hand up, "you are hungover, come on, ibuprofen will help, nothing overflowed, the floor is as dry as ever, the Jacuzzi is empty, and you probably didn't slip, you looked like you were taking a nap." She chuckled

"Seriously?" Chiamaka rolled her eyes.

"Yeah, "Danielle chuckled, "the pizza looks enticing by the way."

"What pizza?"

"Seriously? Now you need that ibuprofen more than ever,"

"I do, my head is slamming, and I'm pretty hungry," Chiamaka said putting on some clothes while Danielle left the room.

"Can you guess where I found chiamaka?" Danielle grinned coming down the stairs.

Niola just got off the phone with her mother; she had just told her most of what she had found out in Oke-osa, and that she would be coming home with her uncle and someone, and knowing he was blind now kept her thinking about a lot of things. Whatever Danielle just said, she heard none of it. All she noticed was her lips were moving.

"Huh? What did you say," Niola asked, forcing a smile.

"I said, guess where I found her?"

"Where?" Niola asked again.

"She was taking a nap on the bathroom floor."

"Really?... Ha, ha," Niola gave a surprised chuckle, " Are you serious."

"Of course not… Argh!" Chiamaka said distastefully, coming down the stairs with a frown. "Well…I did have quite a lot more than enough drinks, last night, y'all missed the fun… Iman is savage, is she always like that?" She grinned and Danielle nodded, "Niola, what happened last night, you looked upset, although I'm quite thankful, I had the whole house to myself, without Danielle's nagging about how loud I was snoring—" she paused and squinted at both of them as she could find this exciting blush on Danielle, "haha… you guys spooned, didn't you?... Oh, no way, you guys had sex." Niola giggled while Danielle laughed.

"you are still hungover," Niola said skeptically, "right Dani?"

"Absolutely," Danielle grinned, "what are you even talking about? It was late… couldn't drive back home… that's it." She said and Niola chuckled.

Chiamaka laughs out,  "I'm in my right senses to smell sex when there was one." Then sauntered towards the kitchen, "And you guys are one sneaky bitches, you can't hide anything from me. I'm a proud cousin and bestie." She said and they laughed.

She came back from the kitchen with some plates in her hand, "Now let's deal with this pizza."

As chiamaka sat beside Niola, Niola felt funny; she felt suffocated and cold, she remembered the first time she felt like this, was the first time she encountered that statue in her studio.

"Guys! I hit a million views in just hours, this is crazy," chiamaka said and her eyes lit up cheerfully.

"Yeah... Crazy, that's a good start, and you shouldn't stop there, start planning more videos." Danielle muffled with a huge bite of pizza in her mouth.

Niola added, "Danielle is right you know, don't stay too long before you post another one."

"Sure, we should prepare for another."

"What do you mean, we?" Niola paused with a brow raised.

"Yeah, we, Don't look at me like that, have you gone through the comments, it's not just me," chiamaka sneered and handed her phone to Niola. "Check it out yourself."

Niola collected the phone, and went through it again, there were more comments than the last time she checked. "Alright, alright, whatever you say."

"Mehn! I hope I still have my juice in that fridge," Chiamaka stood up and went to the kitchen. And immediately she got up, Niola felt relief and all the funny feelings went away. She guessed it was another mind trick again, those demons like her mother said on the phone; "They won't succeed, as long as you aren't marked, they can't find you." But they will, Niola grimaced and rubbed her forehead, disappointing enough she had been marked already. And she was going to tell her mom as soon as she get an alone time

Chiamaka stood by the kitchen counter and poured herself a glass of juice, her veins popped around her face and neck and black things ran through her veins and eyes. She grinned and her face went back to normal. Now they have a problem, whatever she had seen in that bathroom earlier, had possessed her.
