Chapter 2 - Burning Tears

I slipped through the crowds, their gasps of shock and their judging eyes felt like fire burning my skin. "Raymun, please wait!"

I heard Thea call behind my back but I did not turn. I reached the gate of the temple, the stone walls standing as high as the sky above my head. I took a step forward, but two guards, appearing out of nowhere, stopped me.

"You dare disobey me, child." His voice, now gruff and clearly displeased, filled the air. I did not know

he had followed me.

I looked around, there was no way I could escape, not with the most skilled guards surrounding the whole temple, hiding in the shadows, waiting for my move.

I gathered all my strength, another tear threatening to fall, "Sorry, your majesty." The lump in my throat ached painfully, but I knew better than to push my luck with the Pharaoh, not when he looked like he was ready to kill.

"If you may allow it, I want to go back to my chambers." I raised my head, staring right into his obsidian eyes, I was going to leave the temple, but I was going to leave with dignity, at least. Not that it mattered that much, I was long gone— in their

eyes, anyways.

It was not long before the maids, and to my annoyance, guards, followed me all the way back to the Palace— and to my private chambers nonetheless.

Once Inside the room, I fell at the foot of the bed and could not stop bawling my eyes out. Hot tears seemed to fall from my reddened eyes, sliding down my now equally red cheeks.

My eyes shot open in the middle of the night and I realized that I fell asleep with my arms and head resting peacefully at the edge of the mattress. I heard a knock at the door, it must have been what woke up in the first place.

Carefully, I looked around the dark room, observing my surroundings. The first thing I noticed was how the tightness in my chest was still there. I shook my head, gathering myself and getting to my feet. I felt a bit wobbly at first, with a splitting headache burning my temples.

"Come in." I said as I quickly dusted my dress and fixed my hair. The heavy door opened revealing a tall lean figure.

"That was quite the show, wasn't it." The young man raised a brow, a devilish grin plastered to his face.

"Hello, Seth." I greeted him awkwardly. I have always hoped and prayed for this to happen, for him to come to my room in the middle of the night, kicking the door open and carrying me in his strong arms, stealing me away. I shook my head, now was not the time for my teenage fantasies.

He just stood there, arms crossed tightly against his chest, the outside torches casting shadows around his face. "We have known each other for a while now, and I am here to warn you," I listened carefully, his voice was firm and threatening, well when wasn't it?

"Make any wrong move and I personally will hunt you down. This what his majesty has directed me to do, and even thought it would be a great pain in the ass," His arms fell to his sides, and he turned around, casting me a final look over his broad shoulder, "I would be more than ready to use

everything I am capable of to find you."

What had just happened? Did he come here just to threaten me not to run away? I never even mentioned any plans of running off.

I felt trapped, with nowhere to go, how would I ever

escape? Where would I even go?

I sat down, burying my face into my palms. There had to be something I could do. Then it dawned on me; no one outside the capital had even seen me before. Sure, they had known about my light skin and hair, but there must have been many other girls born with pale silver hair. If I could just slip through the crowds and keep my hair and face hidden, I could reach the nearest town in a couple of days.

It was settled then. I would deliberately ignore Seth's warning. I would run off from that miserable fate.

I would stand against the gods.

Now what was left is... how the hell was I supposed to get out of here? The Palace was overflowing with guards, and looking down at my sheer, white dress and leather straps of my brown sandals wrapped around my light skin, I obviously looked like a royal. I sighed, I did not have the proper

attire. However, Thea did.

I opened the door, two guards stood still, their backs pressed against the cold stone wall.

"I want to get some fresh air. I cannot sleep."

They heard Seth's warning and knew that I was not that stupid to disobey him. They exchanged a look before the one on my right nodded. I thanked him and went directly towards Thea's room which was not far away from mine. She was a distant relative of the Royal family and thus she stayed in the

women's living quarters.

I knocked at her door, as quietly as I could manage to. A moment later she opened the door and looked at me as though she had seen a ghost.

"I need a favor." Was all I said
