"Wake up.... Wake up Thgil".
I heard Clay's somewhat excited voice say.
That was strange, Clay never woke up until someone woke him.
No doubt he'd sleep the entire day if he was given the chance to.
"Come on, Thgil wake up". He sounded again.
Seeing he wasn't going away I pushed him saying,
"I'm awake, I'm awake".
I yawned and asked "What's up
Why're you awake so early?".
"Guess what?".
"The neighbour's cat finally got hanged?".
"Uhhhhhhhh....No Granny's up and she's made breakfast".
Whaaaaa! Granny sometimes woke up extra early, but never made breakfast too early unless...
Well unless she wanted to break some news which (depending) could be either good or bad....
I started to get out of bed when Clay pulled my arm, I fell scratching myself on the floor.
Blood flowed through the skin opening on my knee, the same leg where I had wounded myself two days ago.
Clay gasped and ran out,
He came back with a clean handkerchief soaked with water dripping on the floor.
But I had already cleaned the blood with my knickers, it was red so Granny wouldn't know.
I shook my head at him.
"Now you'd have to that water up".
Clay looked at my wound which was now covered by my knickers and said,
"But we'd have to tell Granny about....".
"Clay you caused this, so you owe me and can repay by not telling Granny".
I said as I dropped my hand on his shoulder and looked into his eyes.
Clay looked back for a moment then dropped his sight to the floor and said,
"Okay then, let's go breakfast, I'm hungry".
He hurried off.
I came into the dinner room much later.
I sat down at the table and greeted Granny good morning, she only mumbled a response.
I looked at her, she had her head hung over her bowl of oats and I could see the bags under her eyes;
There were also small cuts on her arm she was using to stir her bowl.
I frowned but stayed quiet.
Granny was being too strange.
Clay was too busy gnawing through his toast bread and fried egg while downing it with his chocolate tea to notice.
I don't think he would have noticed without him being hungry anyway.
I looked at my plate and noticed that the egg was burnt, I ate it anyway.
When we were done eating, I hopped to the kitchen to clean my plate, I walked into the dinner room to talk to Granny about something.
Maybe working in a pharmacy was cool and all but I was interested anyway so I'd back down.
"Um Granny, about that pharmacy thing".
She stopped stirring the bowl and asked "What about it?".
"Remember you were the one that said if I didn't like it, I should say so, right?".
"Hmmmm".
"So I'm saying so now, I want to do something e...".
What happened next was totally UNexpected.
Granny suddenly raised her head, her eyes were like that of a rabid dog.
She lunged for my neck but I backed away leaving her hand with the front of my shirt.
"You ******g mutt, I'd already discussed this with that man so whether you like it or not, you're going there.....to learn, because I didn't get you help you outta that home for nothing, you hear me!?".
She said angrily while I stared at her with shock, when she was done talking,
I struggled to get my shirt out of the tight clutches of her hands.
When my shirt was out, I fell backwards, then stood up.
I stared at her with shock in my head then shook my head.
Suddenly she held her head while squirming a little in pain.
I just walked away.
"And listen, we're moving to a new house, I just got a promotion in my work, you'll go to a better school".
She said in a voice that sounded more like Granny's.
I wanted to run back and ask her why we needed to move but, I didn't want to risk it.
