Irene's lips curled into a cynical smile. Why was she not surprised at all? Once a cheater, forever a cheater.
After Suzie choked up the big secret, she looked left and right in fright. Almost as if she was expecting Chris and or June Henderson to jump out from behind the empty tables and verbally assault her for her betrayal.
But Chris Henderson did not show up, and June Henderson didn't either. Suzie swallowed and raised her eyes to meet Irene's.
The latter did nothing to rush the woman in front of her. Once the two cups of coffee and two servings of pecan pie arrived, Irene gestured for Suzie to help herself.
The fragrance of the coffee wafted into Suzie's nose, giving her a sense of calmness.
How long had it been since she last had a good cup of coffee?
It felt like a long time ago.
The piece of pecan pie too tasted like heaven. Suzie closed her eyes and chewed slowly, trying to savor every bit before swallowing the treat.
When she opened her eyes again, Irene was smiling at her.
Blood shot up Suzie's head and colored her cheeks crimson.
Her actions must seem otherworldly.
"I am sorry," Suzie apologized for her silly behavior. "Miss, I..."
Irene chuckled at the address.
"Just call me Leah. And no worries. Coffee and pie can bring me to tears during bad days, too."
Irene stirred into her coffee, destroying the beautiful latte art that the barista made.
Once Suzie felt a lot calmer, she continued speaking.
"Le-Leah, do you know Scarlett Davies?"
Not personally, but Irene saw her in magazines and television a few times.
"The heiress?"
"Correct," Suzie confirmed. "She is Mr. Chris Henderson's secret lover."
"..."
Speaking about a huge catch, everyone would agree that Scarlett Davies was one of the hottest bachelorettes in possibly the whole United States Of America.
Having grown up to be a beautiful and refined young woman, the sole daughter of the billionaire tycoon Mr. Garrett Davies was the uncontested heir to Davies Group. The giant corporation consisted of a few companies with diversified business portfolios, starting from cotton plantations to high-end fashion shops all around the world.
Garrett Davies lost his beloved wife to cancer a few years ago. It was said that the lady was the love of his life, and Scarlett resembled her greatly.
The owner of Davies Group pampered his only daughter a lot.
Whichever lucky guy got to marry Scarlett was bound to inherit the entire group in the future. By that logic, Scarlett should have been surrounded by countless bodyguards to prevent unworthy rats from even taking a glimpse of the young woman.
Even if Garrett Davies allowed his daughter to date, it would be to some promising rich young men with similarly strong financial backgrounds. Even if Chris Henderson successfully became the CEO of Primavera, he would still not pass the qualification round.
He was about to hit twenty-eight years old this year, while Scarlett just celebrated her twenty-year-old birthday a few months ago.
The age difference was simply too big.
Naturally, there was only one burning question on Irene's mind.
"How did they even meet?"
When Irene saw Suzie wrinkling her nose in disgust, she knew right away that the two people did not start an affair thanks to heavenly intervention.
"Two years ago, the Davies Group held a grand party at a luxurious ship to celebrate Scarlett Davies' birthday. Naturally, Mr. Chris Henderson also got an invitation to attend. Little did Mr. Garrett Davies know that the sleazy man seduced his daughter during the party."
Ah.
A party.
Irene was not sure whether Chris got lucky or Scarlett got unlucky.
"Mr. Henderson tells his wife that he's visiting Primavera's branch offices every Wednesday, but I know that he spends the whole day with Miss Scarlett Davies."
Even though Irene knew that Chris was a scumbag through and through, she was still stunned to hear that the man targeted a young woman who recently came of age.
"How far did they go?"
Suzie shook her head as an answer.
"I don't know, but it shouldn't be much. This affair has only been going on for two months or so."
Irene pulled a grimace.
It was hard to say.
Some couples dated for ten years before they got married and slept with each other for the first time on their wedding night.
Some couples had sex on their first date.
Irene expected more from Scarlett Davies, but judging from the way social media portrayed her, she seemed to be an innocent girl with zero experience in dating.
Such girls were prone to get deceived by elder, experienced men. Men like Chris Henderson.
It did not take a genius to guess why Chris Henderson targeted Scarlett Davies.
He wanted Primavera more than anything, but he knew that his chance was just about everyone else's. It was not much.
Damian's chance turned out to be a lot bigger than his, because Grandpa Henderson clearly favored his youngest son.
After losing the CEO position to Damian, Chris must be especially desperate.
He was still scheming to kick Damian out of the company, but having another option was always great.
If he could get Davies Group, why bother begging Grandpa Henderson for Primavera?
"Alright," Irene nodded in understanding. "Thank you for sharing this piece of information with me."
The blonde woman was just about to finish her cup of coffee when Chris' former secretary spoke up again.
"W-wait, I have one more thing to share," she said in a hurry.
"Oh? What is it?"
"As part of his role as the general manager, Mr. Chris Henderson reserves the right to sign contracts with any raw material vendors that pass the preliminary document screening."
Suzie lowered her voice and leaned closer to Irene, prompting the latter to bend forward to be able to listen to what the other woman had to say.
"There was one company that did not go through the document screening at all. The owner of that company is Mr. Chris Henderson's former collegemate. Mr. Chris Henderson not only let that company skip the document audit, but also granted it a contract on spot."
