The next morning, Philippa ate the dried meat with broth Brian had prepared, then sat with her back against her husband's chest, watching the two wild wolves. She asked Bardulf their names and he told her, then gathered her courage and, holding a blanket around her, she cautiously walked over to the female. Myth looked up, amber eyes on the human girl, alert for an attack. However, she saw the Alpha wolf who was not wolf show his teeth, a low growl reverberating from deep within his throat. She understood that the human was to be protected, not to be harmed in any way. Before, Myth didn't understand why the Alpha was protecting a human. Now, it was clearer.
Philippa squatted and tilted her head a little, seeing the wolf was watching her carefully, but not showing any sign of whether or not to get closer.
Ernest went to her and knelt beside her. "Hold out your hand to sniff. Let her come to you now."
Philippa did as told, watching and waiting.
