Chapter 31
Rick was now a good thirty feet away from Will and quickly thirty turned to twenty which later turned to ten then five. He stopped and looked at Will, his guards wore hard expressions and a man who was standing next to will wore a hateful expression.
"Now then hand over the case," Will said with open hands. Rick complied reluctantly and gave the briefcase to Will who held it's handle at the top. He smiled and the nodded at the man beside him.
"Do as you please Crane," Will said and the man beside him drew his gun, a micro Uzi. He aimed it at Rick's chest.
"With pleasure," the man who was said to be Crane prepared to shoot when suddenly an orange glow came from the sky which averted everyone's attention. Out in the distance was a boat.
Rick didn't need any second thoughts, he drew his weapon and just then he heard gunshots come from behind him then two men yelled in pain as they fell over the guardrail of the ship's bow landing on the jetty. Rick fired three rounds and leapt to the side at the same time.
His bullets were aimed at Will's face but he had used the briefcase as a shield. As he run towards the right.
Crane had dropped to the ground so he was conveniently out of the line of fire.
Rick also hit the ground and Crane was right at his feet with his gun aimed at him. Rick rolled as fast as he could shoot and Crane was way ahead of him. A bullet hit Rick on the right side of his hip as Crane rolled away and fell over the edge of the concrete. He landed in a canoe.
Rick was out in the open and one of the guards stood over him ten feet away. Suddenly there was an engine noise and the Audi Q8 rammed into the guard, sending him flying. The front opened towards Rick and both Dash and Aubrey spilled out. Crouching and taking cover behind the car chassis.
"Come on get up!" Dash said to Rick who grunted and forced himself up. The windows of the car were completely shattered by rampaging bullets.
Pain shot up from Rick's hip but he ignored the pain and fired his gun above the hood of the car. Two guards who had decided to approach the car met Rick's rounds and dropped to the ground. Three other guards and Will had taken cover behind the hull of a small boat. As one guard left his cover to shoot at them Dash had already released two shots out of which one hit him in the forehead. The guard slumped forward.
Crane's fall was less than graceful. He sat up with a groan and his eyes accidentally found the side of the ship where a man was slowly approaching the control room.
"Harper you son of a gun," Crane chuckled lifting himself up and hopped from one boat to the other. He even jumped over the boat where Will and some guards were crouched. He didn't even spare them a second glance as he jumped over.
Just then Dash had spotted Crane. He fired in his direction. Crane felt a searing heat as the bullet moved past his back as he landed on the jetty. He stepped over the two slumped bodies and boarded the ship. He was determined to follow Harper. Walking up the ship's side he met up with a guard who seemed to have been dazed clearly just waking up. Crane smiled in amusement. Seems Jake Harper was proving to be formidable.
"You there come with me," he ordered the guard who nodded as Crane entered the room. He quickly went through the door that led to the mid-deck. He lifted his gun to his chest as he passed through the corridor. The door to the lower deck was open and a few feet on the ground was a shirtless man in beach shorts. Crane quickly recognized him as the captain. He had a hole between his eyes and on his gut. Harper had done quick work of him. There was a knife not too far from him.
Crane stepped over him and continued forward. He had only managed to walk a few yards forward when he stumbled before a black man who held him at gunpoint. Jake Harper. Behind him was Harriet who carried an HK. "Oh," Crane mouthed as confusion swept over them.
"Crane," Harriet said with conviction and right then and there Jake Harper's expression changed from confused to enraged and Crane knew that he had to act fast.
