*Knock knock*
A soft knock rattle against the door pulling Philomel and Amon from their slumber.
" Hmm...? Who's there?"
Amon sleepily asked with a yawn.
" Room service, I'm here with your complimentary breakfast in bed."
" Among, get the door."
Philomel sleepily ordered as she pulled the covers over her head and tried to sleep some more. Amon whined as he dragged himself out of bed, he shuffled toward the door, yawning on the way, and opened the door. A slightly older and taller man greeted Amon with a smile that showed off his dimples. A smile that never reached his dark chocolate eyes, rather his eyes widened with a curious stare at Amon's dark skin and sharp elf ears. Amon awkwardly gestured for the redhead to enter the room, wondering why this human was staring at him like that. Joey greeted again with a nod as he averted his eyes when he noticed he was staring.
" Sorry about the staring it's my first time seeing dark elves around these parts. Oh, don't worry there aren't any light elves in this village. So you don't have to worry about hiding yourselves. We, humans, don't really care about your demon bloodline."
Joey apologized as he pushes the old squeaky serving cart into the room. Philomel pulled back the covers a bit to glare at the serving cart but when she did she instantly recognized Joey as the guard from the tavern. The guard Darzirak stole the armor from, the very same guy they left unconscious in an alleyway wearing nothing but his underwear.
" Thanks for the reminder, that was exactly what Mrs. Barrett told us the other night. Speaking of which how is she? She ran out of the inn, last night in quite a panic."
Amon asked as he closed the door and returned to his bed as he did he noticed Philomel's stare at Joey. Amon turns to Joey watching him setting up the low coffee table to accommodate their breakfast before turning back to Philomel. Philomel blinked Amon an SOS as her eyes darted at the door and then at Joey.
" Oh! She's fine. She was just extremely worried about me since I'm part of the mansion guards. It's a good thing I was passed out in an alleyway away from the mansion. I didn't get involved in the fight and was safe but the downside losing my job and having to move back in with mummy. Eh, either way, safety first, right?"
Joey said with a laugh and a shrug. Amon tilted his head at Philomel, trying to figure out what she was trying to say. Philomel came out from under her blanket, sitting up just to facepalm herself before trying again. Philomel pointed at Amon's right hand and pointed at Joey. Finally giving Amon a general idea of what was going on. Darzirak had done something to this waiter.
" There we go! Beautiful. "
Joey said with a satisfied smile at the table he set up. Philomel quickly lay back down and hid under the blanket as Joey turned back to Amon. Her heart beat rapidly hoping that Joey didn't catch a glimpse of her.
" Well then you two have a good breakfast. The baby milk is here, it's quite hot right now. So best give it a minute or two before feeding the kid."
Joey chimed as he pushes the old squeaky serving cart back out.
" Right... Thanks again, Uhh..."
Amon trails off as he held the door open for Joey.
" Barrett, Joey Barrett but you can call me Joey for short."
He introduced himself with another charming grin as he gestured to Amon for a handshake.
" Right, Thanks again Joey, pass our heartfelt thanks to Mrs. Barrett as well."
Amon nodded as he shook Joey's hand.
" Whoa. "
Joey softly exclaimed as he stared at Amon's hand.
" What? What is it?"
Amon panicked thinking Darzirak was coming out but then when he didn't see the black liquid oozing out, he got confused at what was so shocking.
" Your nails, it's blacker than night. It's so dark that it looks out of this world. But it's only your right hand, why is that?"
Joey asked out of curiosity as he glance between Amon's glass shape dark peach nails on his left hand and the spiked, sharp black nails on his right.
" Oh, uhhhh... dark elf tradition."
Amon said with an awkward laugh as he pulled his hand away and hide it behind his back. Fearing that Darzirak was awake, see his latest victim and decided it would be fun to torment the poor Joey again.
" Isn't dark elf tradition just having a demon?"
Joey asked slightly confused.
" It's more toward maintaining a demon contract... but that's close enough. Well, you have a great day then!"
Amon wished with a huge smile.
" You too!"
Joey replied with a nod before Amon closed the door with a wave. Amon lets out a relieved sigh as he leans against the door and noticed Philomel sitting up with her hand holding her blanket over half her face.
" What did Darzirak do to him? Also, why were you sleeping? I woke you up when it was my turn to sleep. "
Amon asked more concerned about the latter matter since he didn't want any drama from Philomel for sleeping in the same room as her and according to what her father, Anubis taught her, that was apparently how babies were made.
" But it's technically not the same room."
Philomel pointed out, making Amon even more confused.
" What do you mean it technically isn't the same room?"
Amon asked in a flabbergasted tone as he sat down on her bed.
" We had that thing between us."
Philomel answered as she pointed at the wooden clothes-changing partition, that Amon had placed between their beds so that the candlelight wouldn't disturb her sleep. Amon's jaw hit the ground at her answer, Amon thought for a moment realizing this was a much better choice than the night shift, and decided to go with it.
" I'm glad that we had that then. Did your father put something similar up when he slept in the same room?"
Amon wondered out loud as checked on Little One who was still sound asleep next to Philomel. Little One's sleeping position had changed to sleeping sideways with his whole body on half of Philomel's pillow. This meant Philomel had to sleep cheek to Little One's head but it was better than Little One rolling off the bed in his sleep.
" Yeah, I had a partition in my room. Daddy would sleep with me whenever I had a nightmare. We didn't have a third bed, so Daddy has to sleep on the floor but he didn't mind."
Philomel sighed with a small smile as she reminisce.
" I know you miss home, I do too but we are almost there. Bare with it awhile longer."
Amon said in a hopeful tone as he reached out and placed a hand on Philomel's hand. Philomel replies with a nod.
" Come on, let's get some breakfast and we can think about what to do next."
Amon suggested as he picks up the pillows laid out on the floor next to the bed. Fearing Little One would roll off the bed in his sleep, Amon had placed pillows on the ground on the baby's side of the bed. Even though it wasn't a very good plan but it was better than nothing.
" Must we get up?"
Philomel asked with a sigh as she laid back down next to Little One.
" I guess we could stay in a while longer before we have to check out the village. Darzirak really did a number on it yesterday, night. I do hope we can restock our supplies even after what happened."
Amon hoped as he picked up Little One and cradle the baby in his arms.
