Chapter 70 - V5 Chapter 68 Close one!

The Death Knight could already smell the burning flesh of this heathen and the burning wood of his spear seeping through the ashes.

Death Knight " May it satisfy the GODS!"

Saving throw - Roll 6 (Doom) (Inspiration added)

As the Death Knight's sword came down upon Amon's shoulder, something came over Amon and at that moment, a word came to him.

" Soth?"

Amon whispered with much confusion. The Death Knight froze at the name as the memories suddenly came flowing back to him.

" Lord Soth!"

The cries of the thankful villagers and Miners, wailed to him as they crowd around, thanking him for saving their friends and family.

" South!

A welcoming voice pulls out to him as three of his buddies called his nickname and teased him as they did their rounds within the Mines.

" Sooty! *Giggling* "

Memories of the name calling out to him, so sweetly, so tender. The memories of a smiling face as she spun around to greet him. Memories of two little versions of him, coming running up to him as they clung onto each of his legs, demanding that he plays with them.

The blue flames faded as his brown eyes return, finally looking at himself, really looking at himself with his true eyes. He drops his sword onto the ground as he raised his hands closer to his face. Staring at his skeleton hands in pure horror.

*Clank*

The blade hitting a rock rang out, sending a jolt of shock through Amon's spine at the sudden sound being so close by. He turns toward the sound just to see the sword and the feet of the Death Knight. Finally, he turns up to look at the Death Knight in shock, finally noticing him. Amon immediately shoved the Death Knight to the wall, using his spear as leverage to leap over the campfire and made a sprint toward the Mimic. As soon as he ran past the Mimic, it slammed close, trapping the dazed Death Knight.

The Death Knight leans against the wall for a moment longer before the blue flame slowly burns through his eyes once more. Like waking up from a dream, the Death Knight finally snaps back to reality remembering one thing.

" Protect, protect the light from the heathens. I must protect it in the name of Lexi."

He rattled out as he grabs his sword and runs back up the pathway just to find the Mimic blocking his way.

" You dare to block the will of the Gods?!"

He screamed at the Mimic, the blue flame bursting out of his eyes as he raised his blade toward the Mimic in the shape of a door.

" Go! I'll hold him as long as I can."

The creature ordered, Amon and Philomel didn't need to be told twice. They ran down the tunnel as fast as they could.

" What the hell happened back there, Among??"

Philomel questioned Amon as she jogged next to him keeping his pace since he was already feeling winded.

" I *huffing* don't know *huffing* One minute he was there *huffing* The next he has frozen next to me. *huffing* I think I just lost years of my life after that scare. *Huffing*. "

Amon wheezed out between breaths, taking in the air between sentences and exhaling as he spoke.

" What did you say to him? What did you say to make him freeze like that?"

She pressed out of curiosity.

" Say? *Huffing* I said something to him? *Huffing* That * huffing* I don't know. I can't recall saying anything."

Amon admits as he slows down his pace, placing a hand against the wall as he catches his breath. Philomel stops next to him.

" Well, whatever you said back there, saved your life. There was no way anything else could have saved you. That was an extremely close one. "

She patted his back as she silently thanked the twin gods of causality for saving Amon.

" I'm glad you're okay. "

She said with a huge smile but Amon could hear the fear and anxiety in her voice. He could feel the grip of her hand on his shoulder. She did her best to hold back her turmoil of emotions, doing her best not to make Amon and herself feel uncomfortable or awkward by hugging him. But the feeling of dissatisfaction and not enough overwhelmed Philomel.

" I'm glad too."

Amon smiled back at her as he squeeze her hand that was tightly squeezing his shoulder. Feeling his mother's ring on her finger and noticing it was glowing a bright green color that slowly faded into a bright red before finally turning back blue. Amon silently watched the changing colors that lit up Philomel's beautiful smile. He leans in closer, noticing her stunning sky-blue eyes were holding back tears and reflecting the orange glow of the torch she was holding in her hand.

Swirls of glistening orange and electrifying blue danced in her eyes. Like the shooting starts upon a beautiful night that clashes against the glow of a warm campfire. Oh, how he wanted to extinguish that blasted torchlight and admired the full beauty of Philomel's eyes. Finding it slightly harder to breathe at such a sight. Silently thanking the gods for saving him, just so he could admire such beauty. Amon leaned in closer.

He could now feel her sweet breath against his lips, those lush imperial red lips. He silently wondered what her lips would taste like as they moved against his. Would it be a soft sweet taste just like her soft sweet floral scilla siberica scent? Could it be a fiery taste that spark his heart? Maybe an intoxicating taste that takes his breath away and drowns him in pleasure. Either way, it would be robust and flavourful that numb the mind just like a fine glass of wine. Amon concluded as he stared at her lips, just moments away from kissing her.

But then he recalled something Hector told him.

"Remember to be careful when eating its fruit. It's extremely toxic when it isn't fully ripened but when it has ripened it's super sweet and delicious. Goes great on papaya salad."

Hector's voice chimes in the back of Amon's mind. Amon couldn't help but already imagine how he would die in a million different ways at Anubis's hands (Philomel's father). Just knowing what he has taught his daughter about boys, he already knew Philomel would probably think kissing would make her pregnant and kill him.

The temptation was so alluring but just after facing a near-death experience. Amon valued his life too much to give it away for just one mind-blowing kiss. He quickly turned away from her, closing his eyes, trying to calm himself down as he felt his face turning red at what he almost had done.

He has almost kissed Philomel, even though he was drenched in sweat. He realized and feared it might not be a very good experience for Philomel and it would hurt his feelings if she thought badly about their first kiss. It was as if time had reversed for Amon and he was an awkward teenager again, worrying about his first kiss with a girl. Amon faced heated up with embarrassment for losing confidence but then again it was Philomel. The first girl who made him feel less than a man or an incapable undependable person.

Philomel seeing Amon turning away finally snapped back to reality and realized that she got lost in his eyes. She turn away as well, feeling embarrassed, shy, and awkward.

" *Coughing* Shall we?"

He quickly let go of her hand and gestures down the tunnel.

" Ah... Let's... "

Philomel quickly removes her hand as well. She adjusted the grip around the torch in her other hand, looking down, allowing her front hair to hide her blushing face from Amon. She took a second to collect herself before leading the way with the torch in her hand.
