Her love life in all shades of love can appear, be it in family, friends and also into a man were all feeble; despite her being intentional about her life, correcting and adjusting every mistake made by one or the other, there's always an unmerged hole that keeps retaining its depth.
Melissa had summoned courage to speak to her mom and reunite. She was lonely and the only people she could call family was her mother who had abandoned her as a child.
'I miss you, mum', Melissa said as she shared a tight embrace with her mother. "Do you miss me too?" She asked.
'Of course I do, Lissa, ' her mother said, smiling as wild as ever, with curvy lines behind her mothers lips.
"Why did you leave?" Melissa questioned her mother as uncontrollable tears formed on her eyelid. She tried to fight it back but the tears had already broken off and they flowed down her cheeks like rain.
"I didn't abandon you" Melissa's mom had said.
"I didn't know what came over me, I wasn't ready" She added before wiping Melissa's tears with an old towel.
Melissa felt her mother's face with her hands and then traced down the lines of her lips.
It's something Melissa does when little; tracing the lines beside her mother's lips with her finger tips, as it leaves shivering to her mum, laughing as she'd run after little Melissa.
It wasn't hard for Melissa to locate her mom. She was tracking down her mom for a long time and when Mrs Dior was alive, she assisted Melissa in searching for her mom, she said it was great for the both of them to meet and reunite.
Melissa wished Mrs Dior was alive to see that she had successfully found her mom although, years after things weren't going as Melissa had planned and sometimes, she asked herself if tracking her mother was a bad decision.
After their reuniting after almost twenty years, Melissa, taken aback with how different her mother appears. But, at the moment, it was something she didn't want to bring into discussion.
'Mum, it has been a long way from here, struggling to live the life I desire. How funny life plays; never knew I'd be with you again'. Melissa said to her mom who had a lit cigarette in her hands.
'With a red nose, sniffing so hard, yes, my Melissa, it was really life without you. I could sell all I have in doubt of your reuniting, her mother said as she leaned in to give Melissa a kiss, the smell of the cigarettes was strong and Melissa squeezed her face in disgust.
'But you could have called, text or in search of me, Melissa said in between sobs. My entire childhood was taken away from me'
'And love, the peak of everything vital; self-actualization, unending ecstasy, beautiful home and all were deprived from me.' Melissa added as she placed her head on her mom's shoulder while her mother rubbed her hands on Melissa's back.
'Despite the inability and shady-life of the family due to financial incompetency, love, genuine love gives a sense of hope, mum, and you took it all away, Melissa said in convulsive sobs.'
Her mother threw the cigarettes in her hands away and said, 'it's quite a thing you went through, and in the depth of me, I screamed and I'm still screaming of how sorry I am. All I did, Melissa, was for your own good, darling" She said as she Placed her hand plastered on her chest like one who was reciting a pledge for one's country
Then she swore to Melissa, 'I'll never be against you or leave your sight, Melissa'' Her mother promised her. "But, for now, you have your sisters and they have you" she added.
In furrowed eyebrows Melissa stared in shock, 'sisters' she questioned her mom. Mum, when will you seize all you do to me? You keep hurting me again and again. You have children for another? Melissa questioned her mother.
She was surprised and disappointed, she never knew that her mother had gotten married, let alone give birth to other kids.
Ignoring her questions, her mother said 'But the good thing is, I've changed. I am no longer on drugs. I am a responsible mum – can't you see, Melissa.
Melissa raised her eyebrows and stared at her mother in disbelief 'Obviously, you do not expect me to believe all you've said, mum. It has always been you and drugs, Melissa spat.
"One little cigarette is not enough for you to judge me, Melissa" her mom blurted.
"I have given up on my old life and I am ready to take on my responsibility as a mother" She said.
Melissa could tell that she was trying too hard to convince her and it made her doubt her mom's sincererity.
'I really cannot place a hate on my sisters cause of you, mum" Melissa said, "They can't be victim of your mistakes" Do you have a picture of the twins? " Melissa questioned her mother.
"No, I don't but, I could get some for you when next we meet" Melissa's mother promised her.
" That would be nice" Melissa said as her eyes lit up in happiness, she would get to meet her sisters. She was no longer alone in this world, she had her complete family with her.
'Why not come live with us?' her mother says, staring in doubted believe Melissa will give a positive response. But to Melissa, she feels this is another chance to build a family she desires; the one she has always dreamt of.
Despite all the odds of life, she is willing to recreate her life; build it and nurture it. And for the twins, she wants to give them a new life.
