Chapter 9 - Recourse

*************TRIGGER WARNING: Sexual Assault Mention*******

Bane Bailey

My eyes struggled to open as I started to wake, as if someone had superglued them shut while I slept. I tried to blink only to be met with even slower movement. A grunt escaped my lips as I moved to sit up. My torso burned against the movement, and I felt someone's hand rest against my shoulder.

"You shouldn't do that." He said, his voice soft and almost sweet. "You have been injured pretty badly, you need to rest."

"No. No rest." I replied, trying once again to get up. A sheering pain in my side forced me to flop almost theatrically back down, a gasp of pain as I hit the mattress again. My hand shot up to press against it, only to be stopped by the chain wrapped around it.

"Now, shhh." The man said, taking a wet cloth to my eyes. "Or you are going to wake him and he just managed sleep."

I blinked more freely now, the white covered walls glaring back at me with the bright lights of the room. Over in the corner, sitting inside a rocker chair, was the Beta fast asleep. Oh, how the tables have turned. I thought as I tried not to laugh.

"Here, let me raise the bed a bit so you don't have to stay laying down." The man spoke, getting my attention once more. He had a white lab coat on and was fiddling around with the tubes I was connected to. Then my memories dawned on me. Flashes of Alpha Flynn's judgement raced in front of my eyes and I remembered why my side hurt so badly.

"How long have I been out?" I asked meekly, not truly wanting to know.

"Honestly?" the man looked at me, his eyes full of sorrow. "Three days."

I closed my eyes for a moment before letting out a sigh. He repositioned the top half of my bed so I could be in a half-sitting half-laying combination. "Thank you for taking care of me."

"Not up to me. But I would have anyway." He replied before giving me a wink and leaving the room. I snuck a glance over at Beta Drake only to see that this time, his eyes were cracked open ever so slightly.

He stood and stretched for a moment before coming over to sit down at the chair beside my bed. "Awake now are we, Sleeping Beauty?" He asked, the lack of sleep showing in his eyes.

"Yes. I am now, thank you." I replied before smirking at him. "Shouldn't you be letting the Alpha know I'm awake?"

"Liam told us what he could of what happened." Beta Drake said, his voice gravely and tired.

I stared at him, my eyes widening as I took in what he said. I began to wander what exactly Liam had told them and what, if anything, did he leave out.

"He told us you were punished for something you did, and then had the shit beat out of you." Beta looked at me directly in the eyes as he spoke, then nodded. "I figured he was telling the truth, but we always have to verify."

"He did." I told him. "He did tell you the truth."

"Oh, good. So, then you are both either lying to leaving out information." Beta Drake held this look on his face like he was ready to murder someone, regardless of how little sleep he had.

I winced a bit before looking around the room. "I don't want to say it out loud just yet." I told him, looking anywhere but at him.

"Very well. But you will tell someone, soon." He told me before getting up and going to the door. "There is a guard outside in case you get out of the chain."

"Understood." I told him before watching him disappear to the other side.

I flipped through channels on the tv, mindlessly watching whatever seemed to perk my interest for the moment when I saw the doctor come back inside.

"I need to check your back." He told me before moving to remove the chain.

"Don't." I said, my voice only slightly higher than a whisper.

"I trust you not to hurt me. Do you trust me to heal you?" the doctor looked at me, his hands still moving as he unhooked the chain at my wrist. I nodded before he helped me to sit fully upright and pushed my legs off the bed away from him.

"I'm going to put my hand on your back. If it hurts let me know." He said as he moved the hospital gown aside. I felt the cold touch of his hand rest against the middle of my back, but there was nothing. No sensation that told me he was touching me beside the cold. He moved his hand against my hip where Alpha Flynn's mark had been, and I almost spat out a curse. "Well, at least you still have some feeling." He muttered before pulling the gown back around my shoulders.

"Listen. I don't care how they happened, but I can imagine what would cause some of these..." the doctor trailed off for a moment before looking me in the eyes. "The marks, scars, and current injuries. They aren't all from fighting, are they?"

I could feel his sincerity in his question, the sorrowful look in his eyes told me he already knew his answer. "No. They aren't all from fighting." I told him as he nodded and left the room.

Shortly after, there was a loud crash of metal hitting the floor outside before the door flung open again.

"Bailey, you are going to tell me what happened to you, or I will send you out to be killed by the rogues." Alpha Arden's voice was hard and slightly distant. He looked down at me with black tinted eyes and I refused to meet his gaze.

"What do you want to know, Alpha?" I asked him, I no longer had anything to hide from him. I was sure he would kill me anyway.

"Tell me exactly what happened, starting with the moment you left here with Liam." Alpha barked, the gold in his eyes flashing before me and he tried to control his anger.

I looked up at him before recounting every detail I could remember to him, "And then I passed out and woke up here."

The anger dissipated for a moment before he looked at me again. "I... I am sorry. If I had known that he would do such horrid things..."

"There was no way for you to know." I told him, attempting to reassure him somehow. "But there is more I need to tell you. Just not here, and not now."

Alpha nodded before standing back up. He had fallen into the chair the moment I started into my pledge refusal. I could almost feel the guilt rising in him. "When you are ready." He said and I shook my head.

"No. keep me locked up. I don't trust myself." I told him, looking down at the chain against my wrist.

"Fine. If you wish, I will have you transported to the cell as soon as you are cleared by the doctor." Alpha looked hurt, but not by me or what I had to say. Just simply hurt.

I nodded to him before watching him walked out of the room.

"You will kill me; you just don't know it yet." I muttered before looking back at the tv.

The doctor cleared me the next day, telling me to keep from doing anything physically demanding but being in a cell wouldn't hinder my physical health progress. I walked side by side with my guards as they led me back down the dark and damp corridors of the cells and into a different one that before.

The cell was still barred by silver, and I clenched my wrists remembering what happened with the water bottle last time. This one, however, had a sink, working toilet, and a pull-down bed attached to the wall. I couldn't help but wonder how long I would be confined here before they would finally realize and kill me. Please be quick. I thought as I sat down on the cold hard ground.

I spent most of my cell time praying to Mother, hoping she would still accept me when I came to return to her. The rest of my time was consumed with either the guards trying to get me to talk or Beta Drake coming down with the same goal. Each time, I refused to speak. Keeping my silence until Alpha Arden or his Luna made their way to me. I could have sped the wait along by asking for them, I'm sure but what was the fun in that.

Three days turned into four as I watched the guards intently. I was never too keen with guards of any kind. I wandered how many days of watching over the prisoned rogue would they finally give in to their manly needs and do what I feared them to do. I could tell they weren't mated by the way they watched my every move.

"Hey man, you're not supposed to be down here." One of the guards called out down the corridor as the sound of footsteps appeared.

"Naw, Alpha said it would be okay. He wants to see if she will open up to me since she refused everyone else." The voice echoed back as the footsteps kept coming. The guard took a moment, questioning the statement, before relaxing and letting the man by. I didn't recognize him as someone I had seen before, but I hadn't seen a lot of the pack. I couldn't' be sure who he was. "Listen. Alpha told me to rough her up a bit. Take a few steps forward and just... Don't look back."

The second guard looked back for a moment but seeing the man swinging the key to my cell, he recanted and took the steps forward as told.

The man unlocked the door with a gloved hand and yanked it open before looking at me. "Won't even be any fun if you die on me before you spill." He muttered as he yanked the door closed behind him but not locking it. He staggered over to me, and I could tell at that moment that he was drunk, or fairly close to it. Fear wrapped itself into me and I tried to cry out, only to have my mouth covered by his palm.

"No, you don't get to make a sound." He said as he spun me around. I began to curse my tiny frame as I felt myself become powerless once again. His hand wrapped around the shirt I had pulled from the corner, yanking it up and over my head before his other hand moved down to my throat. "If you make any sounds, I will end your life."

I gulped, my throat pressing against his hand, and he held me closer to him. This wolf wasn't as gentle as Alpha Flynn or Set had been, forcing his dick between my folds and inside me. I couldn't scream, couldn't breathe as he held my throat tight. After a few seconds, my vision began to blur, and I fell forward. "Good girl." He called as he opened the cell door and stepped out. I laid where I was on the floor for the rest of the day.

Beta Drake

"Guards have reported Bailey hasn't touched her food since yesterday morning. She just lays on the floor, not moving. One guard had to go into the cell and check if she was even still alive." I looked up from the report to Alpha Arden. I didn't understand what would cause her to just switch so quickly. She had been sitting up and at least looking at myself or Luke when we went to question her.

Alpha turned, throwing me the book Bailey had stolen. "I hope she thinks stealing this was worth it. Seeing as no one knows how to read it." He spat as I caught the book mid-air. Opening the front cover, I looked down at what appeared to be old runic writing, but some of the letters were written differently. It didn't look familiar but was definitely a language. The book looked to be hand-scribed by the Bane himself as he went through his life. Like a journal or a diary would be. I shook my head before placing back on Arden's desk.

"Maybe she will talk if you go down there. You got her to open up before." I told him, looking down at him as he poured himself over the next piece of pack business.

"If it would make you feel better." Arden grunted before getting to his feet. "Then I will go see what she does."

I nodded before following him down to the tunnels. His footsteps echoed as we entered the corridor, but a different sound found its way back down to us. Arden began to sprint forward, pushing passed the two guards who tried their best to slow him down before yanking open the cell door and throwing a young male wolf out into the tunnel.

"WHAT MAKES YOU THINK ANY OF THIS IS ACCEPTABLE!" Arden's voice bounced off the wall as he growled at the man, their faces mere inches from each other. "Beta Drake, get this piece of scum out of my face before I rip him in two."

I moved quickly, hearing the strain in Alpha's voice as he turned back towards the cell. I tried not to focus on the sound of whimpering coming from inside and instead yanked the man up by his shoulder blades. "You will come with me if you don't want him to kill you." I told the man, pushing him down the corridor and around a corner. I had no clue what Arden had planned for this man's punishment, but for now he could be locked up just like she was. I walked him to the opposite side, making sure to keep the cell door quiet as I opened it and forced the man into it.

"What is your name, boy?" I growled as he stammered into the wall on the other side.

"Corey." He finally spat back out as I closed and locked the door behind him.

"I'll be back to deal with you later, Corey." I told him before returning to where Bailey was being held.

I could hear the Alpha speaking to her in a softened tone as I approached, and I choose to stay just out of sight but nearby.

"Bailey, please forgive the pack for that man's foolishness. I had not intended to harm you while you stayed here." Alpha Arden's voice quieted, and I noticed the sound of her whimpers start to flow into tears, the water hitting the floor in an almost rhythmic pace.

"I won't forgive him." She spoke and I heard the shuffling of her body against the hard ground.

"I wouldn't expect you too." Arden told her and I noticed he was keeping her calmed.

"You shouldn't expect much from me. I don't expect to live long." Bailey's words cut into me and I couldn't help myself but to come into view. She sat with her back against the wall, no more than a tshirt on per her current normal, tears streaming down her face as she looked right at Alpha Arden.

"And why might that be." Arden asked her, his eyes glancing at me before returning back to her.

"I promised you I would answer all of your questions about the other night." Bailey's voice broke as she struggled to speak. "I am merely waiting for you to ask the right question."
