Chapter 34 - Roadside Stall

Pei Jinyu looked deeply at Su Yu as he let go of her. His expression softened as he said, "You haven't had dinner, have you? Let's go, Big Brother will treat you to a meal."

"What?" Su Yu looked at him in surprise. "Are you really inviting me to dinner?"

PeiI Jinyu chuckled and said, "I'm treating you to a meal. If you want me to formally invite you, I can.

"Let's go. I'll treat you. You can eat whatever you want."

Su Yu's pitch-black eyes searched his face. "Anything is fine?"

Pei Jinyu looked at her long and curly eyelashes and said, "Yes, you can eat whatever you want to."

Su Yu's eyebrows curved upwards as she laughed wildly. "Alright, you said it!"

...

Twenty minutes later, Pei Jinyu was standing in front of a small stall by a certain road.

"This is the place," said Su Yu with a smile. She then walked over to greet the owner like a regular customer would.

"Aunt Wang, how's business today?"

The 'small stall' was actually a small tricycle with a few wooden boards covered with a layer of floral cloth. Although it was a little old, it looked quite clean. There were more than a dozen plastic baskets on the table filled with skewers of vegetables and meat.

There was a pot in the innermost part of the tricycle, steaming, and a woman in her forties stood next to it, busily shuffling back and forth.

When she saw that the person who had come was Su Yu, she quickly smiled and said, "Yu is here."

"Yeah, school ended early today, so I came over." It was clear from the way she spoke that she was familiar with this person.

This was the first time Pei Jinyu had seen the young girl so relaxed. The viciousness in her eyes had also dissipated. However, this was also his first time at a roadside stall. Even though he was not very particular about the environment of his meal, he did not expect Su Yu to bring him to such a place.

The location was very close to the intersection and the sidewalk was relatively wide. So more than a dozen tables had been set up near the small tricycle. It was not even seven o 'clock in the evening yet but there were already many people. Most of them were students in their school uniforms. They had probably come here as soon as school ended. The air was filled with the smell of smoke and spicy hotpot.

After Su Yu exchanged a few words with the middle-aged woman, she asked Pei Jinyu to find a place to sit. The two of them found a small table in the corner.

Pei Jinyu saw Su Yu walk to the empty seat with practiced ease, then took off her bag and placed it on the table, taking up some space. She turned asked him, "Can you eat spicy food? How do you feel about chili?"

Pei Jinyu looked at the red oil and chili floating in the bowl on the other table. He had not started eating yet, but his throat and stomach were already starting to hurt.

"I'd...prefer less spiciness in my food," said Pei Jinyu.

Su Yu raised his eyebrows and nodded. "Okay, no problem! What about tripe? Do you eat it?"

The Pei Jinyu's people knew that he never ate such messy animal organs. He didn't even eat a bite of foie gras, let alone tripe. He was not picky, but he was allergic to this kind of food.

Pei Jinyu frowned. "No, I don't. Just give me a bowl of the most ordinary noodles."

Su Yu blinked as if she had found out something interesting. She then said slowly, "So you don't eat animal organs!"

Pei Jinyu did not know how she guessed it, but he did not show it. However, just as he was about to say something, the young girl had already turned around to get the vegetables. As she took the vegetables, she mumbled softly, "Don't put too much chili in it, don't take the internal organs."

Pei Jinyu stood out too much in the crowd and was prepared to sit down and wait for the girl. However, the chairs and tables at the roadside stalls were too small for him. Wherever he sat, it was like an adult who had accidentally entered a children's playhouse. He did not know where to place his long legs, looking a little embarrassed. But though the tables and chairs were a little small, they were clean. It seemed that the boss was a person who liked tidiness.

After a short while, Su Yu came back with two bowls of hot noodles. "The food's here."

"This is yours. I didn't put too much chili or any internal organs in it," said Su yu as she placed a bowl of steaming spicy hotpot in front of Pei Jinyu. There was a thin layer of red oil but it did not look very spicy.

"This is mine." Su Yu pulled out the stool beside her and sat down. Her bowl of noodles was filled with chili oil and a few deep-fried red chilies. It looked spicy and she had also added tripe, bean sprouts, dried tofu strips and an assortment of other exotic looking food.

She happily took a pair of chopsticks from the chopsticks container on the table, opened the packaging, and passed it to Pei Jinyu. Then, she opened another pair for herself.
