When Muhammad ibn al-Qasim reached Sustan while invading, his uncle's army was lined up outside the city and ready to attack.
King (Raja) Kaka proved his zeal and haste more than bravery and, not considering it proper to give Muhammad ibn al-Qasim a chance to prepare for battle, attacked suddenly. Seeing the severity of the attack, Muhammad ibn al-Qasim ordered army to retreat. King (Raja)Kaka's army could not master this war trick and they started fighting madly, hoping for victory.
King (Raja) Kaka realized his mistake when the retreating troops from the heart of the opponent's army suddenly halted and became as stiff as an iron wall, and the cavalrymen rushed to the rear of his army like a whirlwind.
King (Raja)Kaka's army could not withstand a strong attack from all sides. Baj Rai was killed while trying to escape from the field
His death changed the soldiers of King (Raja)Kaka's army.
King (Raja)Kaka tried hard to raise the morale of the army, but when there was no doubt about his defeat, he also broke the ranks of the besieging army with a few of his followers and ran away, but Muhammad ibn al-Qasim's riders pursued him.
He was again surrounded and he surrendered along with his companions.
When he was brought before Muhammad ibn al-Qasim, he asked in surprise.
Are you the commander of this army?
Muhammad ibn al-Qasim replied smilingly,
Yes ! I am ?"
The uncle was more surprised to see Muhammad ibn al-Qasim from head to toe and asked what punishment you have proposed for me.
I have seen him fight like a soldier.
I will treat you as I have treated Bheem Singh. You are free.
Uncle said in reply, and what price do I have to pay for this freedom?
Muhammad ibn al-Qasim replied,
"We have not come to collect the price of freedom?"
So what do you come here to get?
To stop the hand of oppression and raise the head of the oppressed?"
King (Raja)Kaka bowed his head for a while and said after thinking,
"If you believe that I am cruel, why do you want to free me?"
"Because violence to the oppressed man provokes him to rebellion. I do not induce him to reform."
King (Raja)Kaka thought for a while and said, I heard that you are a great magician. You know how to turn an enemy into a friend.
Can I also find a place among your friends?
Saying this, he extended his hand for a handshake.
Muhammad ibn al-Qasim warmly shook hands and said,
"Weren't you an enemy before?"
