Crystal never really liked anybody in school, She was a different than others, Her hair was soft as silk, googly glasses clouded others judgments towards her as well, You could barely see anything besides her hair when she walked past you in hallway, That's why no one picked on her, Or wanted to have any kind of relationship with her. in tenth grade she decided to change everything about her, Become something she really wasn't, She loved to read, Enjoy good movies about history, loved her LEGO collection, But unfortunately these type of hobbies don't really give you attention or love from majority of people and that's exactly what she was looking for.
It was one rainy Saturday when Ketzia noticed Crystal's room, it was clean, way too clean, she quickly passed the judgment to Crystal's younger brother Derreck but she was wrong, it was all Crystal, she threw away all of her favorite DVD disks, broke every single one of her LEGOs and while she was tearing books apart Ketzia was standing right beside her door watching her stunned. That was not her daughter anymore, It was someone she never really knew.
"What are you doing Crystal, Put that book down NOW" Ketzia yelled, She was a mother who cared, She knew exactly what she was doing and she was not ready to let her daughter go just yet.
"Mother, I have decided that being a nerd is not for me anymore, I want to be loved by others, I want to hold some guy's hand and pretend that I'm in love, nobody cares about all of this trash but me." Crystal's broken voice shattered Ketzia, watching your daughter fall for this pathetic standards was degrading at its best.
"Who told you this?" replied Ketzia, while sitting right next to her and trying to catch her tears from her cheeks. "Having a hobby and loving things is a personality everyone is missing now days sweet heart, and you want to give it away? there are plenty of people who are gonna love you just the way you are, you don't have to change" as Ketzia finished her speech Crystal was already on her feet, ready to protect herself from the truth that was hitting as hard as it was possible.
"I don't want to be like them mother, I want to have more, I want to be loved, I want to hang out with friends and talk about boys and if this is what it takes, I'm gonna destroy it all" Crystal flinched from her own words, She couldn't believe she was saying all of this, She knew it wasn't true, She knew she was wrong, But what's wrong with someone who wants to be loved?
"Just know, This, All of this, is part of you, you might burn and tear everything apart and hide your real self for a very long time, But know this, deep down its still gonna be yourself growing more and more pathetic while pretending to be somebody you are not" Ketzia slammed the door shut, behind the door you could see a woman, woman with tears and regret, thinking if she played any part in this horrible scene that she just saw.
Crystal had no reaction, she sat back down and kept tearing her history books left and right, after she was done it was time for a little makeover, In this town everything was next to each other, Salon, Coffee shop, Mall, it was like a little mushroom city, every building has the same exact rooftop, worn out, brownish but also very beautiful and little bit too cliche.
as Crystal was walking with her mommy's card she saw the salon she always wanted to go to, "Marlas Hair Salon" it said in blue, the font was halfway faded but you could still see the beautiful writing which was done by Marla's husband. The door creaked as Crystal walked in, Marla was done for the day but when she saw this teen gal she quickly approached her, and smiled, her wrinkly face was adorable to say the least, She had this golden curly hair which everyone adored looking directly at Crystal as she was about to speak.
"Yes, Madam, I would like to cut my hair halfway through and oh, oh I want it blonde and silver" Crystal said with confidence.
"Oh, Honey I'm indeed done for the day" Marla replied with a worried face as she slowly started cleaning the chairs.
"Please Marla, just for this one, My mom loves your hands, She always tells me how perfect you are with her hair" Crystal knew exactly what she was saying, Her mom never liked the way Marla did her hair but she was the only lady who knew how to do hair in town so they really never had a choice in that matter.
"Oh does she now?!" Marla smiled and slowly went back to Crystal. " Alright dear, Fine, grab a seat" she replied
"Thank you Mrs. Marla" Crystal replied and quickly sat on her chair.
When the second semester began she was a completely different person, she was wearing contacts instead of glasses, her hair was navy blue with the shade of blonde, her braces were finally taken off, She might have ruined her personality but she was THAT girl in school from there and there. she no longer talked about books or movies, all she did was scroll through social media and nod most of the times, that allegedly made her more interesting to others which was sadly the truth.
as she was slowly changed into a cool girl she forgot the trait that made her very smart and unique, so she went to Claire for advice on how to not fail the class this year, Instead of judging her new personality which was done by a lot of people, including her mother, she accepted her just the was she was and by the end of the semester she was best friend's with Claire with her brand new grades.
