Chapter 2 - Chapter two

Yasmin walked within the crowd of prisoners, everyone was silent except for the sound of feet hitting the ground as they walked. They soon approach the entrance of the prison where everyone had to squint their eyes because of the blinding sun rays. Yasmin had to close her eyes completely in order to shield them from the brightness of the outdoors, they were sensitive to light and even though she wore her glasses, she had been in that dark cell for awhile. It would take some time until her eyes can adjust to the brightness.

"Alright you filthy little whores- line up in two rows!" One of the guards commanded and everyone immediately began forming lines. Yasmin was a little confused about what was happening but she still followed what the others were doing and got into one of the rows. The rows were formed across from each other, Yasmin could clearly see the nervous and fearful expression on the faces of people across from her.

"What's going on?" she tried asking the Narrator.

The Narrator answered, [This is the first chapter of the book, this is where the slave selection occurs and also the meeting ground for the main characters.]

Yasmin scrunch up her eyebrows in thought. She still couldn't remember much from chapter one but, she had on idea on what's supposed to take place.

'Wait, if this is where the main characters will meet, then...'

Yasmin started to look around at the rows of people, it was only now that she realized that there were only females present. She continued to look around until she spotted an above average looking person. Fair skin, long golden hair that flowed all the way to her lower back, round shaped eyes and pale pink lips. Her face was covered in dirt and grime but, that did nothing to deter her beauty.

Yasmin: "..."

'She basically screams main character!' Yasmin exclaims in her mind. She felt like sighing, 'Was this really how I described her? Was I that simple minded?' Yasmin lamented in her heart.

A guard walked through the rows and behind them came men and women dressed in fancy garments. They strolled through the rows, scanning the prisoners with thoughtful expressions as if they were choosing what goods to take home from the grocery store. A loud scream was heard in the row across from her, everyone's attention was now on a young girl with skin the colour of wheat and dark brown hair to match. She was hugging her now half naked chest with tears in her eyes. A man stood in front of her with a pleased expression, seemly holding the missing piece of fabric from her chest. "Not bad, Not bad...I'll take this one!" He exclaimed, then turned on his heels and walked away. A guard then appeared and dragged the girl along, following behind the man, she screamed and sobbed but her cries of protests were ignored as she was dragged off to who knows where.

Yasmin's face remained expressionless as she watch everything unfolded before her, she didn't know how to feel about any of this. To her, this was nothing but a book, everything that happened was unreal and merely fiction. She decided to view it from a reader's perspective or, in her case a writer's perspective.

The day carried on just like, with Nobles choosing their slaves and prisoners getting dragged away. There were only a few people left in each row, enough to count on hands. Yasmin didn't know how long she was standing there under the blazing sun, she felt slightly lightheaded and her feet were numb from standing too long.

'I'm I that unattractive that I've been ignored all day?' Yasmin thought to herself. 'I mean, I'm not drop dead gorgeous or anything but still, my ego's a little hurt'

Yasmin was too busy pouting in her mind to notice someone approaching her. A man walked with strong strides and an air of dominance that others around him felt that they weren't even worthy to look at him, they held their heads down as soon as he walked by. Each step he took held power and his mere presence commanded respect.

He came to a halt right in front of Yasmin.

Yasmin's head was still down in thought, she just couldn't believe that no one wanted to buy her. 'I'm I really that bad looking? No, that's impossible, mother always told me that I'm very pretty. Unless.... did she lie?! Mother how could you?! Is this what they meant when they said love is blind". Yasmin was struck with this new revelation and the probability that she might be ugly, she only came back to reality when she saw a pair of well polished black combat boots facing her bare, dirt covered feet. Her body froze for a split second before she slowly looked up from the ground. Her eyes slowly passed some strange military uniform, a cloaked up neck, sun kissed skin with a scarred jaw, lips formed in a thin line, a straight nose, until she was looking into stone cold, inky black eyes. Yasmin stared straight into those inky black eyes. They were cold and unmoving, she felt as if she was being sucked into a dark ocean, falling into a bottomless pit of emptiness. The man was also very good looking, even with that scar on his face Yasmin couldn't help but stare. She was sure if it was possible, her eyes would form hearts. The man was surprised by Yasmin's actions as she stared straight at him without fear. Yasmin seemed to have come back to her senses as she quickly looked down, The man said nothing as he shifted his feet and walked away.

'Well..., that was awkward'

She glanced to her right to watched the man's actions, he was currently standing in front of the girl from earlier which Yasmin had deemed to be the main character. The girl avoided his eyes even when he tilted her chin up, he didn't talk, only staring down on her with those cold eyes of his. Once again he just walked away, heading in the direction all the Nobles and prisoners went when they were dragged away.

Yasmin thought his actions were weird, 'Was he just eye shopping?' Before Yasmin could finish her thought, two guards appeared and dragged the girl away. Yasmin was a little surprised before she came to an understanding.

'Cool looking, cold behavior, drop dead gorgeous... that guy was definitely the male lead'. Yasmin nodded her head, feeling satisfied with herself for creating such a blessing for the eyes. She was too busy praising herself that she hadn't noticed a guard approaching her, he grabbed her by the forearm and dragged her away. Yasmin didn't put up a fuss only speeding up to keep up with the guards pace. The guard must have realized that Yasmin wasn't putting up a fight and was having a hard time keeping up with him, he loosened the grip on her and slowed down to her pace. Yasmin noticed his actions and gave him a small smile, the guard only turned his face away. Yasmin lips turned up into a little frown at that, 'Does he think I'm ugly too?' she couldn't help but 'huffed' and looked down to watch her steps. The guard still had his head turned, a slight dust of redness along his cheeks. He was embarrassed to meet Yasmin's eyes.

They soon appeared before two large wooden doors. The guard stepped forward and knocked twice, a few seconds later the doors were pulled open synchronously by two other guards on the inside. The previous guard turned back to grab Yasmin and lead her inside. Yasmin began to examine every corner of the room, her feet felt cool from the marble floors and she sighed with satisfaction, grateful for the cool sensation against her sunburnt feet. The room was massive and even more so because of the lack of furniture, there were only a few chairs which were present at the front of the room and they were currently being occupied by the nobles who chose their slaves from earlier.

Yasmin was too busy observing her surroundings to notice that she had come to a stop. She looked up at the guard and he gave her a small nod before walking away, Yasmin was confused. She then turned to look next to her and saw the girl from earlier, her head hanging low and her hands resting neatly in front of her dirty baby blue dress. Yasmin then looked past her and saw the man from earlier sitting down with a solemn expression.

'Ahh... really a blessing for the eyes', she couldn't help but stare at him.

As if he had grown eyes on the side of his head, the man suddenly turned his head in Yasmin's direction, she quickly looked away, feigning calmness. The man observed her for a bit more before turning to face the front again. 'Scary...' Yasmin thought before also turning her attention to the front where the other prisoners and nobles were. There was a long table at the front of the room with six people sitting around it, nobles along with their prisoners would stand in front of each person signing some sort of paper. Yasmin continued to watch everything with a curious face. A Noble would go up, sign something along with their prisoner then dragged them away (usually with the prisoner balling their eyes out or resisting), and once a space was vacant, the process would just repeat.

Yasmin glanced at the heap of people ahead of them before looking at her feet that were already hurting.

'This is gonna be a long day...'
