Stephanie didn't stay with Amelia when Jax walked away. She simply gave Amelia a dirty look and sauntered off to her little click of friends. Swaying her hips as she walked.
Amelia could just see from her body language that she was the leader of that click. She spoke to her friends very animatedly. Arms and hands flew in the air, with a lot of head shaking going on.
The next thing Amelia heard was her name being mentioned and then the entire click looked back at Amelia laughed and gave her death stares. Amelia just knew that that click would mean trouble and made a mental note of staying as far away from them as possible. Enemies were the last thing that she needed, especially because she was the newbie of the pack.
Jax and Stephanie were, in her eyes, an item. If only she'd known. She would never come between Jax and his mate. She'd already been warned by her mother that that was frowned upon by their Alpha and the last thing that Amelia wanted was to piss Blake off. Especially after he'd been so kind to her. That and the fact that she couldn't get him off her mind, just like she couldn't do with Jax. How could she be having these feelings for both of them?
Amelia had no idea how she would curb her feelings for Jax. Those kinds of feelings don't just go away overnight. It would be a while before she stopped feeling attracted to him. A part of her already yearned for him. A part that she would have to ignore and store deep down in her heart because he would never be hers and she needed to accept it. No matter how hard it was to face.
She looked over to Jax, where he was standing with Blake, and their eyes caught one another. She could see that Jax was still wound up and he could see the look of hurt in her eyes. He broke eye contact and dropped his head, shaking it from side to side. He seemed to have a lot on his mind and she didn't want to get in the way of any drama happening in the pack.
She never wanted to upset Jax or put him in a position where he felt awkward or unhappy.
Amelia suddenly felt tired and decided that it was time for her to head back to their cabin. She felt exhausted after the busy day she'd had. Her shoulder had also started aching again.
She'd pushed herself too hard for her first day.
Amelia sought out her mother in the crowd to let her know about her plans in case she looked for her in the crowd.
Lucia was busy speaking to one of the head Betas when Amelia found her. Amelia walked over and stood quietly next to her mother, so as not to disturb them mid-sentence.
Lucia noticed Amelia. "Oh, here you are! Amelia meet Magnus. One of our Head Betas. He is one of the Omega's fathers. You will probably train with her soon. Her name is Stephanie and I'm sure you'll get on like a house on fire."
The blood drained from Amelia as she was introduced to Magnus. Amelia picked up an air of arrogance in him, just like his daughter, but greeted him nonetheless. He said no words, just nodded her way, and then walked off in the direction of Blake and the other Betas.
"He seems super friendly," joked Amelia as soon as she was alone with Lucia, Magnus safely out of earshot. Amelia felt a bad vibe about him and she was usually a good judge of character. Even though they hadn't spoken to one another, she could tell that he was a pompous ass.
"Magnus can be a bit much," agreed Lucia as she smiled in her daughter's direction. She then remembered how good Amelia was with noticing a person's character, "but I'm sure he'll mean you no harm."
"I hope so," replied Amelia as she watched him leave, "he didn't seem too keen to meet me." Magnus made her feel uneasy and it was something that didn't sit right with her. She made a mental note of staying far away from him and his daughter. She could feel in her gut that they were trouble.
"Are you at least having fun?" asked Lucia but upon looking closer at her daughter she could see the look on her face and knew that it was time for her to head back to the cabin.
"You truly have outdone yourself, Mom. Tonight was a great success and I overheard many of the pack members commenting on how magical the hall looked. I'm super proud of you and the pack is lucky to have you as their very own in-house decorator," teased Amelia, but her mother could see the pride shining in her eyes and that was enough for her. She was so happy to see Amelia again and kept looking over to see where she was during the festivities. Afraid that her mind was playing tricks on her.
She did, however, notice that Amelia's body language was different than normal when she was near Jax or was having a conversation with him. He seemed to seek her out quite often that evening and Lucia didn't know if she should be happy or apprehensive about it.
"Well, I'm off back to our cabin," announced Amelia, "it has been a very long day and I'm starting to feel pain in my shoulder. The meds are busy wearing off and I'd like to go home to take another dose before it gets any worse."
Another reason why Amelia wanted to leave the festivities was that she began to feel quite heady from being in the proximity of both Jax and Blake, their scents drove her crazy. That and the fact that she now knew that Jax was completely off-limits. She could see that Stephanie wasn't one to mess around with. She seemed very protective of her mate, and rightfully so. Amelia would also feel protective if Jax were hers.
It was best that Amelia left before she made a fool of herself. Her heart was broken at the fact that Jax was meant for another and not her.
She looked back for Jax once more and she saw him speaking with Stephanie. She was beautiful with porcelain skin. She was stunning, even though she seemed to be a bitch.
By the look of their body language, Amelia could see that Jax didn't seem too happy with her. Jax stood with his arms crossed over his chest and seemed quite closed off toward her. This made Amelia smile to herself. "Take that Stephanie!" she whispered to herself and giggled. "That's what you get for being bitchy."
Stephanie saw that she wasn't having the desired effect on Jax and turned in a huff and walked off.
Amelia's eyes followed her and the next thing she knew Stephanie was staring at her, she could feel her eyes poking daggers into her. A look of hatred on her face. Amelia knew that she hadn't wronged Stephanie in any way. Stephanie must be pissed because Amelia had been spending so much time with Jax. She could also probably have seen how much fun they were having together.
Their conversation flowed so easily and he didn't make Amelia feel out of place at all. He made her feel as if she'd been a part of the pack for months. Amelia knew that if she hung around with him that she'd feel safe and as if she belonged, but that dream had come to a crushing end as she found out about Stephanie.
Being an Omega meant that you were the bottom rank of the pack. You needed to prove yourself to the Betas and Alpha. Showing that you were worthy of becoming a Delta.
Amelia wondered if Stephanie would speak to Magnus about her, and run crying to her daddy.
Oh, shit, what had just happened? Had she pissed off the bitch of the pack?
