Chereads / Damned Benevolence / Chapter 5 - True Nature

Chapter 5 - True Nature

Mid morning, on a highway to Stanford city....

Draven's eyes slowly started to open. When finally open them, he saw the roof of a car in the back sit:

"Where am I?" Draven calmly asked.

"You're finally awake, that's a relief. For a second there I thought I snapped your neck" Jin snickered as he replied.

Draven slowly got up and sat upright in the car's back sit. He looked left and right, only seeing trees and bushes pass by on the road side.

"How did I get here?..... What's going on Jin?" Draven asked as he tried to make sense of the situation.

"I knocked you out. Bringing you with me while you were still conscious would have been a pain. So I knocked you out and loaded you in my car" Jin explain nonchalantly.

"What?" At that point Draven was both shocked and confused.

Jin looked behind:

"Draven come up here in front. I'll explain everything as I drive."

Draven hesitated for a bit but made his way to the front passenger sit.

Jin starred at Draven again:

*sigh*

"Okay I'll start explaining from the top. Have you ever heard of an organization Called Cyber?"

"Yes I have.....Isn't it that criminal syndicate that is rumored to have murdered the 3rd Duke of Cambridge?" Draven asked.

"Yeah that's the one. But I'll tell what it really is. Cyber is a top criminal syndicate which has terrorized England for the passed eleven years. It doesn't necessarily do bombings or kidnaping but they are involved in money laundering, drugs and illegal weapons." Jin explained.

"Okay but what does Cyber have anything to do with me?" Draven asked.

"Am getting to that. As I was saying, Cyber is the Criminal organization which is responsible for at least 40% of England's crimes. But do you know what Cyber is most feared for?" Jin asked.

".....Am not sure" Draven replied.

Jin looked back at Draven:

"High profile Assassinations."

"A-assassinations?" Draven stummered as he asked.

"Yes assassinations. Cyber is said to be responsible for most of the assassinations of people who hold important offices. And do you know how they do them?"

Draven paused and thought before answering:

"I don't know"

"They use an elite assassin known as The Ghost."

"The Ghost? I've heard of him." Draven spoke.

"The Ghost is Cyber's most dangerous assassin. He is ranked number one on the english national danger scale. In short The Ghost is a national level threat."

Draven looked at Jin and asked:

"If The Ghost is the most dangerous person in the country why hasn't he been stopped yet?"

"Because it's simply impossible. The police or anyone who attempted to go after him all died." Jin answered

Draven became quite after he hearing that.

"And guess who's the head and boss of Cyber" Jin asked.

Draven thought for a second:

"If The Ghost is the strongest member of Cyber then it's has to be him right?"

"Nope, it's your dear old uncle..... Syven Coder."

Draven was astound. He couldn't believe what he just heard:

"Uncle Syven is the head of Cyber? No that can't be right, he's a wonderful mayor who cares for Birmingham City and strives to protect it especially against terrorists" Draven's frowned as he argued.

"It's true. How do you think an ordinary mayor was able to accumulate a net worth of over 3 billion pounds? On the surface master Syven is a good and caring mayor but in the shadows he's a cold blooded Mafia boss who eliminated anybody in his way."

Draven broke a cold sweat as he heard the shocking revelation. Draven knew master Syven was a serious man and had little to no expressions but to be a mafia boss was just too much.

"Now this is the part where you come in. Master Syven did not treat you poorly or gave you tasks because he disliked you, he did it solely to kill your emotion. Because that is one of the requirement for becoming an assassin. For the passed eight years you've show a lot of potential to become an assassin Draven." Jin drove as he explained.

"Wait am supposed to become an assassin? But why? Why me?" Draven asked those questions as he was still flabbergasted from hearing Jin.

"Haa kid I've already explained enough. Listen, master Syven planned this from the start. Your purpose in the Coder family is simply to serve him. If master Syven needs you to be an assassin then an assassin you shall be. Now no more questions!" Jin shouted.

Draven kept quite from then. He tried to digest everything he just heard.

This time Draven failed to suppress his emotion. Angry and hate filled his mind. Draven couldn't come to terms with everything Jin had told him.

The two of them drove in silence from there onwards.

.....

In the afternoon, Jin and Draven arrived in Stanford city. They made there way to the central business district and stopped outside a fast food restaurant.

Jin parked the car and turned off the ignition:

"Come let's get something to eat." Jin got out of the car as he said that.

Draven exhausted and tired hesitantly complied.

They went in the restaurant and Jin ordered some food. A waitress brought their food and Jin quickly dug in.

"What's wrong kid? Aren't you hungry? Eat up or the food will get cold" Jin asked as he took a bite of chicken.

Draven hadn't said a single word since Jin revealed the truth earlier that day. But he's growling stomach couldn't be ignored. The boy joined Jin in wolfing down the food.....

Draven and Jin spent the rest of the afternoon eating and resting up in the restaurant. Before they knew it was already evening.

"Alright kid I think it's about time we get going" Jin got up from his sit as he said that.

They both walked out the restaurant, walking slowly to were the car was parked.

Now that Draven's belly was full, he started thinking clearly.

"Jin....I know you said no more questions but I have to ask, why are we in Stanford city anyway? Draven asked.

"I've got an assignment here. Will leave for Korea after I complete it" Jin replied.

"Korea? We're leaving the country? But...." Draven cut his question midway, not wanting to upset Jin with more questions.

They both have entered Jin's car and drove off.

After driving for a while, Jin stopped near a certain mansion. The mansion was heavily guarded by armed security personnel.

"Kid wake up, we're here" Jin stopped as he parked the car across the mansion.

Out of exhaustion from travel, Draven had dozed off in the front passenger sit:

"Huh huh? We've arrived?" Draven got startled.

"Yeah. Am going out for a bit. Now listen closely, after 15mins I want you to go in that mansion over there." Jin explained with a stern face. "Don't worry about the details just do as I say."

Jin got out of the car. He went behind the car and got a few items from the trunk. Draven looked behind to see what Jin was getting but suddenly Jin vanished.

"Jin's gone. I didn't even hear him leave" Draven wondered.

Waiting patiently in the car, Draven constantly checked the digital clock on the car dashboard.

After 15 minutes, Draven open the door and got out of the car. He walked across the road over to the mansion's gate.

As he arrived there, Draven found the gate open and the power in the mansion's premises was out.

Despite that he could still see the path to the mansion's entrance.

"Hello? Excuse me is anyone around? I was told to come in here" Draven asked around hoping to be stopped at the entrance but no one responded.

As Draven walked in, he felt something wet on his shoes. He thought he'd stepped on some water so he ignored it.

"Jin? Are you in here?" Draven called out.

When he reach the main hall, Draven tripped on something and fell. He still couldn't see clearly where he was going. As he fell, Draven's hand touched the floor. His hands became soaked with a thick liquid.

"Huh? Did I trip into another water leak?" Draven wondered.

Suddenly the lights flickered and the bulbs in the mansion lit up. Draven got blinded by the lights. He slowly opened his eyes and what he saw horrified him.....
