The king cobra's reputation was too infamous, and for all the wrong reasons.
"Dou Jiu, your uncle is a doctor, isn't he? Ask him what to do if someone gets bitten," a young man said.
Dou Jiu shook his head, "My uncle is a doctor, but that's not his field. Plus, doctors in the north rarely see king cobra bites; we don't have king cobras in my hometown. If they do appear in the north, it's almost certain they've been brought in through illegal channels."
Another person chimed in: "I've heard that some people in the black market down here buy venomous snakes to brew into liquor. The joint protection agencies have been cracking down on a lot of them."
Most of these people were born and raised in big northern cities and came to the south for tourism. They found the insects, crawlies, and venomous snakes here to be as terrifyingly huge as the internet had warned. But it was precisely this novelty they sought.
