Joe Ga didn't negotiate with Father Gamo out of a need for self-respect. Joe Ga was someone who had endured hardships, and he didn't need others telling him what to do; he knew better than most what the impoverished truly needed.
However, that didn't prevent Joe Ga from supporting Father Gamo's work. The jungle residents indeed needed doctors and medicines, all future labor forces to be increased whenever possible.
