Chereads / Wolf In The Flesh / Chapter 9 - Chapter 8

Chapter 9 - Chapter 8

"I hope your big mouth is worth yours," Bark cocked the shotgun, "get away from my son or die!"

Remus responded by going for Sharpe's neck. But his head was blown off before his teeth connected.

Sharpe pushed off the dead carcass and strode forward. "Look at us. We are now both leaderless and for what?

Revenge that will leave us both with major losses. Bark raised me like a fake lamb because his vengeance took

away my mother. Yes it is me Sharpe the strange sheep. I was a wolf all along."

There wore murmurs all around. The sheep especially were in disbelief.

"Is this true?" one of the sheep asked Bark.

"Yes, Elder Ram decided to make me raise Sharpe as a price for killing a cub's mother," Bark said, "at first I was

upset but as time went he became my son."

"This is sick," a wolf called out, "he can't be one of you."

"That is true, I am not a sheep and can't live as one anymore," Sharpe said and shed his disguise, "but this clan

is my family and I will do whatever it takes to protect them. "Your leader died in battle. Will you join him in

death as well?"

There was a lot of murmurs.

"We will leave peacefully if you concede that we won," a wolf stepped forward, "and Sharpe becomes our

leader."

Sharpe was shocked by the proposition.

"It was you that killed Leader Highland was it not?," asked the wolf

"Only to protect my family!" yelled Sharpe

"It doesn't matter each clan has rules in order to serve and govern our people," said the wolf

Bark looked at Elder Ram and he disappointedly nodded his head agreeing to the wolf's claim.

"I want to be able to see him," Bark said.

"If you agree to our terms you can see him whenever he ventures near the border. Sharpe was exiled after all

and we all know that only the leader who did the exile can remove it."

Sharpe felt a pang in his heart knowing this was true. "Father I will be okay. You need a life of peace. If me going

with them accomplishes that I'll do it."

Bark looked away and went to talk to Elder Ram. "We agree to your terms. Sharpe you need to go now. Please

visit and I love you."

Sharpe nodded and left with the remainder of the pack. As he ran and howled with them he knew that he

belonged. He was a wolf in sheep's skin no more.
